RPG Superstar™ 2010 General Discussion

101 to 150 of 161 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | next > last >>

Three stuck out to me and that was it. There were some others that I thought were really bad and some that were okay.

I voted for:

Necrotic Tempest
Ossuary Golum
Liesinger

My fourth and last vote has gone to Lief Clennon's Rotling.

Honourable mentions to:
Richard Hunt's splorudra
David Posener's haga
which both ran the Rotling hard.

But thanks without exception to all the contestants for their entries in this Round. You have had to bravely endure in silence whilst we voters milled around, poking holes in, praising, shooting down in smoking flames, or even occasionally voting for your entries.
I applaud your dignified silences, patient 'I appreciate your feedbacks', or (occasionally comic) 'vote for mes'.

My votes went to the Astrumal, the Ossuary Golem, the Chaitrakhan, and the Skintaker.

Since I'm site staff over at www.dndonlinegames.com/, and Joshua Kitchens is one of our members, we've been pushing him a bit...

My votes went to:
1. Ossuary Golem
2. Chymick
3. Wyrmhiri
4. Tremmaguan

The 4th vote was a close call between the Tremmaguan, Splrodura , Chaikathran and Lamahu.

I have already cast two votes (Liesinger and Spitfire Revenant).
The remaining two are going to the Ossuary Golem and the Haga.

I would like to say that this would have been easier with 8 votes, but that isn't true; so many of these are just top-notch in my eyes. But if I had had a fifth vote it would have gone to the Astrumal.

OK, after much deliberation, I’ve finally settled on my votes. In alphabetical order:
Astrumal – Perhaps a little grandiose in the language (entire solar systems?), but a VERY cool monster concept. I’m very curious to see it statted up – especially the rules behind its magnetic abilities.
Caltrop Golem – OK, I love golems AND I love caltrops. By cleverly smerging the two you snagged my vote. I’m dying to throw a couple of these little guys at my players.
Skintaker – You had me as soon as you mentioned the connection to intellect devourers. This was my favorite monster of the round. I bow to your superior monster-fu.
Slithering Horror – What can I say? Daddy loves his baby. ;-)

Great job, everyone!

Roguerogue, you skipped from the rotling at 9th to the astrumal at 12th. You still came out at 32 because you have five entries in the "T27" position (which, if there are 5 of them, should make them all T29).

Lantern Thrall

First couple were easy. It was deciding who would get votes 3 and 4 and who would be left out that was agonizing. Splorudra and Churjiir, on another day, it might have gone to you instead of the Lantern Thrall or Liesinger.

My first two votes have already been counted (Liesinger, Skintaker)

My second two votes go to Rotling (Clennon) and Haga (Posener).

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32

My votes:

David Posener — Haga
Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem

These two were far and away my favorites. The former is a plot hook, a challenging encounter and a useful/compelling NPC all in one. The latter is a great monster.

Also voted for:

Jim Groves — Skintaker (Pleasantly creepy)

Jason Schimmel — Caltrop Golem (Nice to have because it fills a missing niche)

At the time I voted, three of my favorites (chymick, ossuary golem, and splorudra) looked as though they were certain to make the next round, so I voted for the next four on my list:

Haga
Wyrmhiri
Lahamu
Liesinger

Though the haga seems to have finished strong, so it probably didn't need my vote in the end.

I voted for (in the order I liked them):

David Posener/ Haga
(I love mythological monsters not previously used)
Matthew McGee/Ossuary Golem
(Wonderful idea)
Tobias Mull/Deathleech Puppeteer
(I'm an Iron Maiden fan)
James Martin/Wyrnhiri
(The only dragon like creature offered, and I think there is always
room for dragons)

All submissions were really good. I gave a lot of folks a hard critique. I ran out of time to put all my thoughts down before voting on all the monsters. I will, though, say that everyone of them was as good and in many cases far better than anything I could have come up with. You all made it this far and its obvious you all deserved to.

Kudos to all 32+4!

Interesting to compare. We have a similar stand-out group of frontrunners this year, but a much stronger middle field (and, if I'm not mistaken, a larger exit poll sample). I thought earlier it was noticeable how widely votes were spread. Very often successive posters had no two entries in common.

And for anyone who thinks your position in the first or second round sets anything in stone, look at the final 4 from last year; yeah, there's your winner up there at #1, but the other 3 guys in the final 4 were no better than a crap shoot to even get out of the second round. Keep your chin up, contestants. The chance is there for you. Just remember to Always Be Awesome!

Of course, ABA! And it's corollary, DENBA(Don't Ever Be Not Awesome)!

I think it'll be really interesting to see how this thread predicts the outcome, and what we'll be saying to next year's contestants in terms of past-year's analysis.

True, dat. And there was an anti-Gulga backlash last year as well. But, damn, Malgana was good and Varrush really was great with a stat block.

Partial votes were important to track before, in the event that the voter decided to come back and cast the rest of his or her votes.

Now that the polls are closed they're probably not as important.
