Female Human Barbarian/2

Anya is standing in H2, in front of Helga. I thought the swarm was all over the boat already. PS so Dabbler, what's your secret to making such great maps so easily?

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

I use Dungeon Crafter III and plain images of Dungeon floorplans pulled off the web. Once I have the basic shape I just chop it all together in Windows Paint. It's basic, but it works.

Oh, I moved Anya to G2, as Helga's in H2, here.

SO CLOSE!

Ragnar is stood among the vicious rats as they climb up his legs. He withstands the foul stench that starts to set his stomach heaving and can act normally.

After Ragnar acts, I'll finish up the round and move on with npcing Saorise.

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

Ragnar takes a five foot step to C1and attacks the rat swarm with both sides of his quarterstaff.

Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

The Exchange

As the crew moves left and right, dropping oars and gathering their weapons, Ragnar smashes dozens into bloody pulp.

Anya and Helga form up behind Jorgen who's rune glows briefly as he traces it then turns invisible. Kanud and Olaf look on in horror at the vermin swarming over their little brother, who staggers back to his feet near Ragnar.

Ari stows the oar and arms himself with a mace. Cannot do shield as well its one too many move actions.

The vessel begins to slow and curve out to sea with one or two oars dragging and one slides out and floats away. But Kurn puts the tiller over.

Next Round

Round Two

Saorise pulls out her iuak and readies it to defend against the swarm in the unlikely event that it should reach her.

Then disembodied words are spoken in guttural common behind Kurn, "arise, crush the Cursed One!" and he feels the tiller begin to squirm and writhe in his hands. The smooth wood flows and scales up and Kurn is holding a massive green scaled snake, easily ten foot or more in length and at least the width of his leg.

Snake bite attack on Kurn 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Loops of the snake slide up and out of the water attempting to loop around the priest of Krakis. Thick and strong cartilage ripples across Kurn's legs, the muscular body feels cool and dry to the touch as the water drips off the snakeskin.

Grab attack on Kurn 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 and possible constriction 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Grabbed Kurn topples over as the reptile begins to squeeze and squeeze.

The Exchange

The rats continue to climb up Ragnar, trying to reach his face and mouth. They use their incisors to help the climb, nipping straight through to the flesh.

Two Fort saves from Ragnar and Thorsten and each takes 1d6 ⇒ 5 damage from the rats.

Seeing no other choice, Thorsten jumps overboard with a loud splash and the few rats left on his body swim away like little black darts.

Over to you guys.

Just tell me when Helga stops being nauseated ...

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 61d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Ragnar spits a litany of garbled curses in Krieg and Dverge.
I'll wait until those ahead of me in initiative post their actions. Maybe it's time to jump ship?

Male Human Druid 2

Stefnir once again attacks with his flame.

Produce Flame attack (1d20=4)

Slipping as the ship lurches with no rudder.

Then moves back 10' away from the swarm.

It lasts one round so Helga is back and Ragnar is down to ....

Nauseated - Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move actions per turn.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

FW - Kurn is finished by the look of it, so I hope you don't mind if I have a look at the thread again in a few days and seen how party got on. Thanks for running the game, it's been fun

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

No he isn't!

Helga casts cure light wounds on Kurn and shouts to her sister:

"Get that thing off him!"

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari will take a 5ft step to I2 and will try and hit the snake with all his might.

Light Mace 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 Was +5 but took -4 as Kurn & Snake entwined

Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

Though barely conscious, Kurn selectively channels (selecting out the thing holding him) positive energy.

1d6 ⇒ 3

Male Human (Kreig) Inquisitor 2

Jorgen grabs his spear and charges towards the serpent holding the priest, calling upon the divine power around him as the past few day's toll begins to be erased.

Healing Judgement round 1, fast healing 1
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Attack roll includes +2 charging and -5 for striking entwined opponent

Female Human Barbarian/2

HEr previous good spirits evaporated in the face of the danger to her sister, the insulting threat of vermin[/] and most of all this [i]'blasted cursed ship' firey tempered warrior lives up to her name and flies into a fit of snarling fury. Stepping past her sister Anya takes aim on the head of the serpent and smashes down with all her strength. Yet as the entwined pair roll around on the deck she misses them completely.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
[ooc] Am not sure if the penalty is -4 or -5 so didn't include it Edit: Turns out it doesn't matter[/dice]

Stefnir

Spoiler:
Since he missed it doesn't matter but a L1 druid only gets one "grenade" before the spell ends. We will use that as this round's action for Stefnir so its just for future reference.

The Exchange

Round One
Saorise 21
Large Constrictor 20
Ship Rat Swarm 19
Helga 17
Stefnir 15
Anya 14
Jorgen 13
Ari 12
Ragnar 5
Kurn 2

In the chaos of battle, the snake is hit by Ari and then stabbed through the gizzard by Jorgen. But it survives the heavy wounds. In her haste, Anya misses a golden opportunity to lop the reptile's head off.

Thanks to the healing power of Helga and then himself, Kurn manages to regain consciousness.

A nauseated Ragnar and Saorise to act in the next round. Checking the rules I cannot find any reason to impose a -4 for melee attacks into a grapple. In fact the snake is much easier to hit.

DM

Spoiler:
My bad! I should keep reading. I missed the whole reduce the duration by 1-minute on a successful hit. First time I've played a druid...I'll read things more carefully ;-).

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

Ragnar pulls back to H1, where Ari was standing (I assume he had to move to hit the snake on Kurn).

The Exchange

Because Flash is a bit busy with Saorise I'll npc for this round.

Saorise slices he primitive antler-horn hooked staff across the face of the snake aiming to take its head off.

Iuak attack 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (18) - 4 = 14

The body of the large headless snake drops to the ground around Kurn lifeless.Had 1p left

Then seeing that Ragnar has moved away, the rats follow and are blasted by the invisible rune. The swarm is shattered and the remaining rats dart into corners and over the side. Dozens of blackened bodies form a circle around the rune.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

Kurn casts a cure light wounds on himself:

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

He then grabs what is left of the tiller to gain control of the ship.
"Well done and thank you" says Kurn to everybody. "Grab the oars before they disappear over the side".

Kurn put the ship back on course as soon as he can.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"Did ... did you hear that voice?" Helga demands. "It surely wasn't one of us!"

The Exchange

There is nothing left of the tiller, it's all snake.

French Wolf wrote:

"Ok, we will have to use the oars to steer the ship. Does anybody need healing?"

Male Human (Kreig) Inquisitor 2

Jorgen quickly mutters a few arcane syllables, his eyes flashing blue as he scans the prow, then the rest of the ship.

Detect Magic

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari glad to see the rats have gone says,"Should someone have a look in the hold?", then returns to his seat and takes up an oar again.

"Thuh-stuhn's uhvuh duh suhd! Wuh guht tuh guht huhm!"
Ragnar tries to see where the lad swam to, looking for ropes or any other method of getting retrieving him.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"Oh gods yes!" Helga scrabbles for a rope.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Ship oars. Man overboard! Ari, check the hold brother"

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari shivers again, thinking there may still be rats down there, but slowly approaches the trapdoor, shield and weapon at the ready.
He peers down the dimly lit hole, to see if he can see anything.

Perception Check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

The Exchange

Thorsten has drifted about twenty feet from the drakkar, despite his best efforts at swimming. It's obvious he cannot swim well, he splashes about bravely but the boy is in trouble. His head goes under and he comes back up with a yell.

Jorgen

Spoiler:
Make a Perception check, just to be sure but there are no noticeable magicks.

Ari/Jorgen

Spoiler:
By the time that Jorgen finishes sweeping the decks and Ari isordered to the hold trapdoor, they can both make out the carved symbol of a bird with a jagged arrow through its body. It doesn't show up as magical.

Male Human (Kreig) Inquisitor 2

Spoiler:
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

Helga throws the end of the rope toward Thorsten.

Throw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 (not sure what it counts as)

If he grabs it, she starts hauling.

Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Somebody strong help Anya pull the boy in before he drowns!"

I am of course assuming that Helga's roll of 20 is enough!"

Male Human Druid 2

Stefnir steps to the rail to help drag the boy in if he can reach the rope.

If he can't reach the rope Stefnir will spontaneousness cast Summon Natures Ally I, and after warning the boy, summon a Dolphin to push him closer to the boat (Obscuring Mist forfeited).

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

Ragnar takes a position on the rope, to help haul the boy in.
Strength check (aid another?): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

The Exchange

The dolphin helps Thorsten reach the rope, despite him floundering and splashing alot. Then Ragnar and the rest can easily pull him back aboard.
Wet and coughing, the boy is covered in bites and shivering from his brief immersion in the cold sea.

Jorgen

Spoiler:
No magic found after a good search.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"What can you see in the hold Ari?"

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari replies to Kurn,"All I can see is a carved symbol of a bird with a jagged arrow through its body, I think it's some kind of rune. If you want me to go down into the hold a lantern would be of use as I hopeless at seeing in the dark"

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Thank you brother. Jorgen, aren't runes your kind of thing? Should we destroy it like the last one that seemed to take over Taggrik?"

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

"Luhzz juzz buhn duh whull thuhng uhn puhss uhn duh uhshuhz.", Ragnar grumbles.

Male Human (Kreig) Inquisitor 2

"It doesn't have any active magic, but..."

Knowledge Arcana 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Spellcraft 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Ok, Jorgen, deal with the rune as you see fit, while the rest of us get this ship to port. Man the remaining oars please and let's get the hell out of here. Ragnar, are you able to rig a makeshift tiller please?"

Female Human Barbarian/2

Somewhat disgruntled at her failure in battle against a mere snake and that there is nothing left to smash, she put away her club and, making sure to give the near drowned boy a companionable pat on the shoulder as she passes him, the warrior woman grabs a spot at and oar near the entrance to the hold, ready torush to their aid should Air or Jorgen discover something that needs killing. In the meantime though she grabs and oar and does her best to help steer and propel the ship.

feel free to make any necessary roles for her DM

Male Human Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 2 HP 22/23, NLD 0; AC 16, FF 14, T 12; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +1; Init +4, Perc +6

Ragnar attempts to fashion a makeshift tiller with a spare (or unused) oar and whatever else is on hand.
Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Hopefully enough for some serious Macguyver action...

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari to Kurn,"Brother will you not cast Light upon my shield, before myself and Jorgen, venture into the dark hold"
