I pre-ordered the original Core Rules books so I've got a 1st printing book and the free pdf. Cool. Now, there were a couple of typos, nothing major, but I understand that in the 2nd printing of the book, some/all of these minor errors will be corrected.

#1 - Is this true?

#2 - If I re-personalize my pdf, will it always be a pdf of the 1st printing, or will it automatically update to a pdf of the corrected 2nd printing?

The current PDF incorporates the errata and fixes we made to the first printing, so yes, it is indeed true. If your PDF says "second printing" on the bottom of the credits page, you have no need to repersonalize the file. When we do a 3rd printing (which will likely be pretty soon), we'll fix more of the typos and stuff, at which point you'll need to repersonalize it. At least... I THINK that's how it works on the user end... I can confirm, though, that we ARE incorporating the errata every time we reprint.

A third printing? Sounds like sales are doing really well. I'm glad to hear it. My group has now completely converted over to Pathfinder. We love it! We're not a big group, but there's about 15 players and 3 GM's.

Keep up the great work!
Go Golarion!

That's awesome that you guys identify stuff like that. Means I can purchase a new printed copy in a year or two and know it's up to date.

Right now, EVERYONE's PDF is based on the second printing. Those of you who have been around since before the release might recall that the first printing had been entirely sold out before it arrived, so we ordered the second printing before the book was even released, and so that's the only version that we have released in PDF form.

We did do an update to the PDF shortly after the release, but that update only fixed some links and bookmarks; the editorial content didn't change.

Shortly after we send the revisions for the third printing to the printer, we'll update the PDF, and e-mail everyone who has purchased it to let them know.

I purchased the paper version as I was so happy doing the playtest I wanted to support Paizo & get myself a copy ASAP but this contains all the errors & there is no way to fix this properly without referring to the errata document - is there any chance those of us that got a 1st edition book getting a PDF with all the corrections for free ? kind of like a compensation

Re-personalize the PDF in your downloads, and you get the current (2nd printing) version.

I'm one of those loyal Paizo fans that purchased the first printing of the Core rules (two copies actually). So, the third printing will contain errata and revisions ... Vic (or another Paizo person In The Know), can you tell us just how much is errated and revised between the original and this newest printing? I'm not looking for a specific percentage, just some kind of rough idea. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense for me to consider selling my first printing and picking up the third printing.

For the 1st to 2nd printing there is an errata in your downloads. I suspect that they will do either a) an additional errata, or b) a comprehensive errata.

* I hope it is b

We don't know yet—it's still in progress.

Shortly after we finish it and pack it off to the printer, we'll post PDFs of the changes here—there will be one PDF detailing the changes from 1st to 3rd printings, and another detailing the changes from 2nd to 3rd printings, so whichever printing you have, there will be one document with all the changes for your version. We'll also update the full PDF at that time, and email everyone who has the current PDF to let them know that it's available. All that should happen several weeks ahead of the 3rd printing actually becoming available in print, so you'll have plenty of time to make up your mind on that question.

(We do not yet have dates to give you for any of the steps I've mentioned.)

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I love Paizo. :)

(Thank you, Vic.)

Hey Vic,

Is there anything being done for any kind of comprehensive pdf of errata for all the other Pathfinder books besides the core book for those of us that have print copies and not pdf copies of those books?

We currently only compile official errata documents for books that we intend to reprint—right now, that's just the Core Rulebook and the Bestiary. We also don't update the editorial content of the PDFs of any other books; the PDFs should always match the current print edition.

Thanks for the reply, Vic. :)

Has anyone ever gone through the message boards here and compiled a list of known typos and errors and the posted fixes from the various companion and chronicles books or would I need to dig through all the forums myself to compile my own list?

Wow, really? That seems like surprisingly bad product support from a company that is otherwise fantastic. Seriously, only the stuff you plan to reprint? And for anything else we're left to search the boards for community-posted errata, or what some members of the community think are errata...

I've posted elsewhere my opinion that I think it's taking a bit too long to get out an updated official errata for the core rules book, resulting in needless confusion and bickering on the boards over how to interpret this rule or that rule, but if it turns out that Paizo with NEVER offer errata for the majority of it's products, I will be very disappointed.

Oh no, no errata. Paizo is a terrible company! Let's all go play 4e now.

Lol.

James has mentioned that he has been keeping a word file on typos and important issues pointed out on the boards, for use in a future printing as well.

As for other products; since they aren't the CORE rules, there's less of a need to compile the errata. The core rules are the tools you use to build the games; if theyr'e wrong, then things you build with them are gonna be off. But if you build something with the rules and what you BUILD is off... that doesn't mean that the next thing you build will be broken.

We COULD spend more time and resources keeping everything we produce updated with super detailed errata files, but we'd be producing fewer products. And that means we'd be making less money, and that would eventually mean bad things for what we need that money for... like paying employee salaries, rent on the building, printing, etc.

And in the end... even WITH the errata, the game plays fine. Folks get too caught up and obsessed with errata, I sometimes think. Posting errata faster won't solve bickering on the internet, in any event.

And as for this... we HAVE issued the first round of official errata on the core rulebook. It's in your PDF already, in fact.

what if you own a first edition printing & dont have a PDF ?
I am required to buy a PDF so I can keep up to date or go between two prints (corebook & pdf errata) just to make sure rules are correct ?
is there a possible way to get a copy of the PDF free if we own the first or second edition printing - I assume there is a way to prove we own a valid copy - something in the book which identifies it
I had to buy my copy from an Australian distributor as other suppliers had run out of the copies from first printing

Click on: Errata for First Printing v1.0: 1.2 MB zip PDF
That contains the changes in the 2nd printing.
When the 3rd printing is finalized, a new Errata will be released, and the PRD will be updated.
