Question about Impoved Great Fortitude

Rules Questions

Question about Improved Great Fortitude, Improved Iron Will, Improved Lighting Reflexes.

""Benefit: Once per day, you many reroll a Fortitude save. You must decide to use this ability before the results are revealed. You must take the second roll, even if it is worse.""

My question is = What is the point in getting a second saveing throw; if you dont know what the first saveing throw was?

It means that you get a second saving throw after you know how much you rolled, but before you know if it was a success or not. If your first roll comes up a 7, you will know it is not enough, while when the first roll has a result of 16, it is not so obvious.

So, it gives you a reroll you should use if you roll really low.

But is says:
"" You must decide to use this ability before the results are revealed "".

So how do i know to roll a second time if i do not know what the results are on the first roll.

What it means is that you know the results of the d20 "die roll" but not whether the saving throw was a success or failure.

Example: DM tells you that the evil cleric cast some spell at you, and you have to make a Fortitude save. You have +7 Fortitude save, but you have the Improved Great Fortitude feat. You roll your d20 and it comes up a 3. At this point--before the DM has told you that you failed the Fort save, likely before you tell the DM what your Fortitude save result was--you can decide to reroll the Fort save. You think that this might be an important saving throw to make, and you are pretty certain that your 10 isn't going to make it, so you decide to reroll the saving throw.

You have to keep the results of the second roll no matter if it is better or worse than the first roll.

This is a very nice ability to have, and would likely be used when you roll a natural 1 or some other very low number on the d20. Even if you have a great Fort save, such as a dwarf fighter with good Con, and you have a great chance of making any individual Fort save, its nice to have if just for those natural 1s that pop up from time to time.

Ok this make more since. Thanks Father Dale
