Where are the rules for skill synergy? Have they been removed? :(

Yes, synergy between skills is gone. The observation (by James Jacobs IIRC) was that they were too much effort for too little reward and that they complicated the creation of NPCs in modules and other books too much too often. The various +2/+2 feats (e.g. Alertness) now give an additional boost that compensates for synergy bonuses nicely at 10th level or so.

Synergy bonuses not only caused a shocking number of errors in stat blocks and were often forgotten altogether... but in some cases, made certain skill checks EXPLODE out of the expected norms. Diplomacy was a great example; you could pretty easily net a +17 or so Diplomacy check at 2nd level if you put your skills in the right places.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Just the same, I am going to miss my +17 to Diplomacy at 2nd level. :(

Play a half elf with a 20 cha. 2 ranks + 3 class bonus + 3 skill focus + 5 cha + 2 (feat whatever it's name is) + 1 masterwork perfume (Curse of the crimson throne alchemy item) = +16... not too shabby for a bard, sorcerer and possibly even paladin.

Yeah, I played a half-elf bard in the Tearing of the Weave campaign. With maxed out diplomacy plus various bonuses and the Soothing Voice alternate class feature from Races of the Wild, he could pretty much talk anybody out of attacking him.

Of course, this seldom worked, as his bloodthirsty party-mates kept provoking those fights anyway.

The main thing I noticed the lack of synergy with was Jump and Tumble.

"...and add the +2 syne...hey wait a sec....oooh same skill right."

What about succeeding at one skill check to give a temporary boost to another? Like, a successful knowledge tactics roll would give you a +1 to hit. Or- a successful perform check might give a +2 to diplomacy or bluff? Or a successful bluff check might give a boost to sleight of hand?
And so on...etc, etc... Isnt there some way to do that? Like maybe theres a feat or something?
