Pathfinder Divine Rules

Product Discussion

I know that Pathfinder fully intends to do Psionic and Epic rules in the future(and that this question has probably already been asked), but do you have any plans for a product like Deities & Demigods? (but, y'know, better executed?)
I play in one of those rare groups where the player characters are occasionally deities, become deities, or regularly interact with them in both roleplay and combat encounters, so its of special interest to me.
Currently we use the Immortal's Handbook: Ascension, which usually works fine, but it can (and has) sometimes been unbalanced even at that level of play.
I heard that you had created stats for a Mantis demigod, but I wasn't sure if that was representative of all demigods in Pathfinder or if it was tailored specifically for that NPC.

From what I know demi-gods will be about demon lord power level, but they have no Intent of making stats for gods as they are beyond mortal power and mortal's can not harm, much less kill them

Except for when, you know, their not.

Seriously, not all campaigns are the same. I personally play (or run rather) a campaign where it is absolutely possible to go toe to toe with a god and survive, and even win. All Im waiting for is the ELH (3.0 ELH is sometimes useful, has some decent flavor, but is horridly broken overall).

And yes, I absolutely would love to see new and improved Deities and Demigods for those of us who appreciate deity stats. Im sure Paizo could do a great job on the rules.

It may change, but the current thought is pc's do night fight gods, gods are outside mortal ability to harm. I agree with that myself. Stating up gods is something I find a bit silly.

It was also said in another thread, mostly regarding the Advanced Player's Guide but probably about all their books now that they publish exclusively for PF RPG, that while the books are not just for the Golarion setting that anything that appears in a PF RPG book will be functional for Golarion. So if the only gods they are going to publish exist in Golarion and thus do not get stats and can't be defeated by mortals, then there will not be a book from them detailing the gods so that you can go against them. You will have to look for a 3PP to eventually come out with a book that does this for settings other than Golarion.

Thats kind of a bummer, especially since they'd probably do a good job on it.
And I very much disagree with the whole "gods are too far above mortals to be harmed" thing. Doing even light reading into the mythology of any of the real-world pagan pantheons (especially the Greek and Norse) will show you that gods and mortals clashed regularly and that the gods did not always come away untouched (and sometimes they didn't come away at all).
The D&D pantheons, at least to me, have always looked like they where on the same level as Zeus and the rest of the gang.

Part of the problem is that there are non-unique NPCs going upwards of CR 25 in Golarion. That's a real problem when you want to stat the gods, because you need to put them even higher than that.

I have no problem with beating up the gods/demon princes/etc. in a game, you just need to have the right sort of game. But you really don't need Deities & Demigods-style rules; you just make the gods really, really hardcore NPCs with some plot-device powers that don't enter into combat.

I think there is room for this kind of book. Highlighting various gods, maybe a bunch of generic deities as well as the specific Pathfinder gods.

I agree going toe to toe with a god may be a bit silly, but perhaps you could have Avatars of those gods and their relative power levels in comparison to each other. Not sure.

Basically, here is my quandary. I want to run a very high level campaign. Under the old 3.5 rules it was going to be about 40th level, designed for Clerics only. I am waiting to launch it until I see the Pathfinder version of Epic rules. In this game the Gods are made mortal for a short while and the characters would be involved in a mystery when one of the gods is murdered.

I was hoping to get some level of guidelines for Avatars of the gods.

I am not so weak that I can't come up with something on my own (been playing for 25+ years), but I wanted to make it more official, I guess.

Demon lord power level sounds about right to me. CR25-36 or so, after all they are at the upper end of mortal power. And as pathfinder is looking to cap epic level somewhere between 30 and 36, 25-36 seems right on target

JJ said a few...interesting bits on this in another thread, here's the link.

I don't really see the need to make the gods more powerful that everything else, at least not all the gods. I don't even see a need for deities like Imhotep and Hestia to be much more than CR 10. Certain demigods may even be very low CR indeed. Of course some deities should be that powerful.
