So I only have one account, and I am not planning to get any more.
It was possible before to have multiple characters from the same account logged on at the same time which was perfect for trading components between them.
Now this is not possible, so how am I supposed to pass stuff from my gatherer to my crafter?
Especially as there is almost never anyone on around the times I log in.

Arrange to have someone visit and act as intermediary, or join a settlement with a shared character.
There is almost always someone at OV a few times a day. If you catch me in the early evenings, I currently can login alts in:
Rotter's Hole
Ozem's Vigil
Kindleburn
Rathglenn
Blackwood Glade
Brighthaven
By the weekend, Kindleburn, and Blackwood Glade will disappear from the list.

The options seem to be:
1) Quit your settlement and join one with an Auction House and use that.
2) Quit your settlement and join one which is very active like TEO
3) If you live in a TZ like Australia move to the US or Eurozone
4) Pay for a second account.
5) Delete your alts, and if you have a DT account sell that and get a normal account without a DT
6) Trust whoever just happens to be standing around.
7) Encourage your settlement to acquire a bank character which everyone has access to and can log in when necessary.

This really needs a solutions.
It would be really good to hear from GW about this. These are the small things that you can find workarounds for - but see Edams post - they are all a pain.
The TEO style shared bank account is an iffy solutions in my view. I'm not sure if GW wants to advertise that multiple people use the same account. But right now this is the best solution of them all (until someone infiltrates it and plunders it which would be a huge incentive later in the real game).
And it also is not a good solution if Brighthaven is the only viable place to game because it is the only place with enough people logged in at the same time.
Wait - did I say viable - maybe desync in Brighthaven would kill this.
I don't know what EVE style contracts are - but in principle all it needs is an option to hand stuff into the bank of another character
/bankdeposit charname
and this opens up the bank of the charname
This should only work for deposits.
For Emerald Lodge members and players - drop me a message 24 hours ahead and I try to meet up. Flitwyck also seems to be around often.
I do manage - but that is because I have multiple accounts for the whole family - but it is a pain. My personal bankbot Theodum can never hand over anything directly to Thod - the main gatherer.

We're hoping we'll be able to further streamline this process, particularly for large batches or heavy items, by letting you automatically move items from and to private or shared vaults anywhere inside the settlement rather than having to have all the components in inventory (e.g., pulling components straight from your personal vault and depositing the finished item directly into your company's vault).
It's already part of the plan, just hasn't been implemented yet.

Hmm.
Personal hangar -> company hangar. Very EvE like. But not:
My hangar -> my friend hangar.
So everything I want to give to my alt must pass through the company coffers ... We haven't already seen in EvE the problem that that can generate?
@Thod
The basic contracts are very simple:
Select a pile of stuff in a location
Say "I want to give this package to character X in exchange for y money (from 0 to a lot)".
Character X has a few day to accept the contract and he can see what is in the package before accepting it.

Right now, in Alpha, you can't have two Characters from the same Account online at the same time. This is a recent change, and temporary.

You are sure it will be temporary? AFAIK it is meant to stay for DT at least.

DT will never be playable at the same time as another character. That is established.
DT is an alternate avatar of certain enlightened beings, gifted by Pharasma to those that supported her cause most quickly in her hour of need, and which has no essential essence of its own, but is dependent on our spirit to imbue it with life as needed.*
* Or, at least, that's my interpretation.

Ryan has been telling us for years that we'll be able to have multiple Characters from the same Account logged in at the same time. There has not been, to my knowledge, any statement that this plan has changed.

I'm not sure that's the case anymore. That restriction was announced when a Destiny's Twin Character would be linked to a Main Character. That link will no longer exist. It's not clear to me that the Destiny's Twin Character being in-game will mean you can't log in any other Character from that Account.
