Google Wave Questions

Technology

I recently saw an RP invitation for Google Wave, but I haven't really read much about the product (I'm looking it up right now) but I have to ask, what does it contribute to roleplaying? What's appealing about it?

If any of you have any experience using it could you share some about your experiences?

So far, it seems to have a lot of potential - that is what has me excited. There is a bot to handle dice rolls that you just have to invite to the wave (kinda like an always open IM conversation), the ability to share files and videos in the wave. My Wave game is an experimentation to learn by doing, as well as to play a PFRPG game through it.

The potential lies in the Extensions setup - basically plug-ins that allow you to expand what a wave can do. The current extensions let you have a voting process, Google Maps plug-in and similar simple things. Waiting to see what people come up with that can be used for gaming will be fun. After all, there seems to be a high percentage of gamers among the programmer set. :D

While you could certainly play a game through other means, for myself I'm curious in using this new piece of tech from Google. Learning by doing has always worked for me in the past.

I'm with you on that one. Fighty and Dicy seem to be good starting points for incorporating tabletop mechanics into Wave. Now if there was only an extension to make sure everyone gets online at the same time...
