Witch - Primary Arcane caster

The Witch is going to combine the arcane with the divine

The blog has the playtest release date of all the new classes.

Summoner and witch are scheduled to be released three weeks from now. It's going to be interesting to see what they have to offer, hopefully they'll live up to all the hype.

I look forward to taking the first peek at the Summoner. To me, it seems like an excellent "bad guy" type.

Thematically, yes, but mechanically, summoners are wasted as bad-guys, since they spend actions doing what the bad guy gets to do for free, without even needing a Leadership feat, which is be surrounded with allies and monster minions.

The nature of being an NPC means never having to pay for extra allies out of your own feats or class abilities. From an NPC-optimization standpoint, he can spend those feats and class abilities on stuff to use during the fight, and have an owlbear pet as 'flavor text.' :)

Mmmmm....yummy owlbear flavor......**drools like Homer**

I'm hoping the "Summoner" has class features to get around the "using up actions" tax....and a better name.

I'm hoping for an aberration type (Pet Cthulu), construct type (Frankenstein or Golem), magical beast type (owlbearmanpig), and undead type (um...Frankenstein). Maybe more.

Good cases can be made for Outsiders, Elementals, and Dragons (if not True Dragons) as well. I could see a druidic/wild/witchy flavored Summoner summoning a Plant or Ooze as well.

And vermin swarms. Don't forget vermin swarms.

Do we know this? I figured, at the most, they'd have to spend as many actions as a druid would for handle animal (meaning free or move). I certainly hope that's not the case, as it would give them a significant disadvantage over the other pet classes.

Of all the new classes, this one seems the least "needed." The basic description is reminiscent of a cool Prestige Class not a base class

Having said that, what do we want this class to accomplish? What powers, abilities, etc?

Nuts! The idea that any of the classes are unneeded is nuts. The truth is that we all could make any of the classes do whatever we want. It is our game after all. However, the fact that the amazing writers at paizo are working on this makes it intrigueing and interesting. I envision the summer sort of like Da Ogre said. A summoner would have creatures or creature that they buff and they hide behind or stand beside. I have an idea for a Gnome summoner with a big lumbering earth elemental that fights for me or with me. Basically a caster that has a protector of sorts... I dunno I am just rambling, but it sounds cool too me.
