okey-dokey, I am reading the Core Rule book and seeing Strength check this and strength check that...
What is a strength check? Roll a d20 and apply your strength ability modifier? (i.e., strength of 9 gives a -1 to the roll)
Where are the DC for the various strength checks? I see page 178 has some rules for breaking shtuff. But what about lifting things or bending things or whatever?

Well for lifting things you'd want to set a weight and see if it's in their capacity to lift. A Strength check, as you've correctly guessed, is a simple d20 roll with their strength bonus or penalty added in. There can potentially be some modifiers (people assisting, a crowbar, etc) depending on the situation.
The most common one is busting in a door which should have a proper DC in the book based on what the door is made of. It's kind of up to the GM to decide if something called for a strength check to break or requires actual HP damage.

There are also many Str checks which are opposed ability checks. Often you will be rolling off against another characters Str check!
