Sapere nods a bit to the dwarf. "Worry not, I do not underestimate my foes, old man. I do not let a nick from a rusty blade strike fear in me either. Perhaps the guard will root out the last of these rats, however. Still, we should be on our guard."

He tilts his head slightly to try and listen for any other sounds of combat, while motioning a bit towards the wagon with the burning goblin corpse. "The fire has not sprung up very large yet, but perhaps some of our larger friends should try and pull that a bit further away from the nearby structures so there isn't any accidents?"

He then glances towards the halfling, still having his rather imperious tone as if he expects that his words to hold more weight then they probably do. "And you, halfling, your kind find many valuables coming through their hands. It may be worth rooting through their remains and seeing if they have anything worth more then a pigsticker."

The dwarf looks shocked. "You...you plan on robbing their corpses?"

Sapere looks a bit confused at the dwarf, eyeing over him for any signs of Pharasma worship, or perhaps Iomedae or one of those gods who may be against such things. "I hardly think they will have much use of such things anymore and perhaps some of them may be of use for us or the town if more of their friends are lurking about. If it makes you feel better, we can make a nice cairn for the bodies or whatever your traditions may encourage. A pyre may be better, so we can keep from spreading a plague with their flea ridden bodies."

There is no sign of any worship on the dwarf. The dwarf laughs harshly. "Traditions? You mean with those gods you humans like to believe in?"

He turns away, muttering to himself.
What? Sociopath? Don't be silly!

"And I need to check on Great-Aunt Niska," Aylmora thinks to herself. "She is all alone in that great old house. What if the goblins have gotten in!"

Old Redeye wrote:

"It wouldn't hurt to check the bodies," Aylmora says to the group. "There may be something that indicates why they attacked the town."

After making sure that Father Zantus is alright and that the fire is under control, Aylmora will politely take her leave of Father Zantus and rush to Madame Mvashti's house to check on her great-great-aunt. The others are welcome to join her if they wish!

"First good idea I've heard all day," the halfling says with a slight smile. "I'm James, by the way," he introduces himself as he gets to work searching the corpses for anything more useful than a dog slicer or flee infested armour.

Jimmy:
You rummage through the bodies to find: One potion of cure light wounds, 7 dogslicers (suitable for small humanoids), a studded leather whip (suitable for small humanoids), a short sword (suitable for small humanoids), a shortbow (suitable for small humanoids) with 20 arrows (suitable for this sized bow), 20 gp

As Jimmy is searching the dead goblin bodies and Aylmora politely takes her leave of Father Zantus, you hear the sound of a scream and a frantic barking coming from the north.

You estimate it is coming from the top of Chuch Street, near The White Deer inn.

Cuu pours a bucket of water over the flames, sweat dripping down his face as he reaches for another full bucket from some helpful villagers who have come out of hiding now that the fighting seems to be over. He hears the scream from up the street and thinks, "maybe this is my chance to outdo that barbarian for real!"

Making sure the villagers continue to take care of the fire, Cuu rushes towards the source of the scream, his weapons drawn.

The dwarf groans. "Don't they know they should be fleeing right now?" He mutters, following slowly behind. Close enough for protection if he is attacked, but not so close that he'll be in danger of fighting otherwise.

"Oh no!" Aylmora thinks. "More people in danger! I really need to check on Aunt Niska, but..." After a split-second of indecision she finds her resolve. "Like I told the dwarf, it is up to us to see to the safety of these townspeople."

"Come on!" Aylmora calls to the others as she hops down from the podium and sprints north down Church Street toward the White Deer Inn. "It sounds like someone else is in trouble!"

"Besides," she muses as she runs, "if any goblins are stupid enough to break into Aunt Niska's house, she and her spirit friends will probably make the little buggers wish they had never crawled out of their holes!"

Sapere sighs a bit and gives a slight shake of his head. "So they scurry out of the woodwork once again."

Taking note of the eagerness with which the halfling hurries to the task of looting the body he chuckles slightly, its as he expected of one of the smaller folk. "Come then, James. There will certainly be more scraps ahead. Did they hold anything of use?"

The man sets off to jog after the others, following them towards the site of battle.

"A potion of some kind," James replies with a shrug, pocketing said potion in case it proves useful later. "Looks like a healing draught. Other than that, there's some halfling sized weapons, but other than some arrows I might be able to use later, there's **** all worth bothering with."

With that, he sprints after the others, barely keeping pace with the jogging Cleric.

On sharing loot, I propose the following system. Since the party can only sell the loot at half price, any party member who wants the loot pays that half price into the pot. This way, the pot will remain the same size and everyone will get the same share of loot regardless of who buys the loot. Let me demonstrate:

Scenario 1

- party of 6 got $600 worth of loot
- no one wants anything
- $600 worth of loot sold to merchant for $300, everyone gets $50

Scenario 2

- party of 6 got $600 worth of loot
- fighter wants an item that costs $200
- $400 worth of loot sold to merchant for $200, fighter puts in $100 for his loot, total pot of $300 gives everyone gets $50
- effectively, everyone gets the same share and the fighter got $50 back, so he only paid $150

What do you guys think?

Female Human (Varisian) Wilder 6 {HP 53/53; AC 20, T 15, FF 15; F+6 R+5 W+8; Init+3 Perc+14} {Effects: Psionic Focus}

I would like to propose the following

clarifications:

We exclude a few items which are obviously either utilitarian and may be expected to be swapped amongst the group (such as everburning torches) and items that clearly and directly benefit the entire group (such as cure wounds wands). I would argue that healing potions do not quite fall into this category, as 90% of the time they are used by the person carrying them (and mostly people like to stock up on a healing potion or two, so if they are included as party loot, whoever is carrying them essentially got a free gift).

You then add up the total value of all remaining loot – however, all items etc. are priced at half value (not full), as that’s all anyone will ever get for them, whether you sell them now and share the wealth, or keep them and (possibly) sell them later when you get better stuff.

You take out the cost of any identifying or appraising (if this can't be handled in-party) – even if someone does not intend to take any of the magical items, you never know for sure until you know what they are, you can’t really sell them unless you know what they are, and it is really a benefit for the group to know what they are.

You now know the total value of all loot; you divide that total by the number of party members (in our case 6), which gives you the value of each share. People can then either take their share in coin or items or a combination of both, ‘paying’ half price for the items. It is assumed that any unwanted items are sold for coin. If you want items worth more than your total share, you have to pay for them out of your personal funds.

For example, let's say that the treasure we're trying to divide up is composed of multiple magical items (including Bracers of AC+2, a Cloak of Resistance +1, and a +1 suit of banded mail) plus a sum of gold. Let's say everyone’s share of this trove comes to 2000 gp apiece; I could take my share of the loot in the form of the Bracers of AC+2 (4000 gp, saleable price 2000) OR a Cloak of Resistance (1000 gp saleable price 500) and a +1 suit of banded mail (1400 gp, saleable price 700) and 800 gp in coin OR just take 2000 gp in coin. If I wanted the bracers and the cloak (and assuming of course that no one else had already taken them) I would need to fork out 500 gp of my own money so that everyone else still gets an even share.

It seems a pretty fair way to do it. In a RL game we’d probably go round the table and everyone take turns picking items (high roll gets first choice); that would take too long here IMO, so we’ll just need to try to compromise if two people want the same thing.

The only problem I can see with this is if we find something that is really useful for one party member, but is much more expensive than an even share, and that person doesn't have enough gold on hand to pay the difference. Perhaps if someone doesn't have enough buy an item from treasure then they could just 'owe' the party or they could ask individual party members for a loan to cover it, paying them back later. It's a bit ridiculous to sell useful items just because no one can afford them, we can work through that stuff.

Sorry to get so long-winded, but then I am playing a bard! ;-)

I guess because currently IC we are running down the street to save someone from goblins - which may not be the most opportune setting for a discussion regarding how we are going to split up the meager armor, weapons, and gold that were pilfered from the bodies of the last goblins we slew. Especially since our characters just met little more than a minute ago, and IC some may think it presumptuous to assume that we will soon become boon adventuring companions.

In this game-world there are shops aplenty. The way to sell stuff is to go to the shop and see what prices you can get. You might get a great deal or you might get ripped off. Plus I will always take into account supply and demand. A sleepy back-water won't pay top dollar for exotic items that could sell easily in a city. On the other hand, what is ten a penny in those big cities might be rare in a little town.

With your guide to Sandpoint, you can decide what to sell where and role-play it. Of course, how you decide to price items people in the party want is up to you.

AShbek looks Cuu in the eyes, and lift his own hand to his chest saying "I am Ashbek"
He then crouch and touch Cuu's wounded leg and grin. "And how much should we subtract for you injury?" he says with a wink.

As he hear the screaming he looks to Cuu
"Ah.. This is not over." and then he storms off with big leaping steps, easily building distance to the heavy armored half-orc.

In front of the White Deer, you see a goblin mounted on a hideous creature. Resembling a mangy and starved dog, it has the flat nose, beady eyes, and protruding teeth of a rat grown grotesquely large. Tiny clawed forelimbs and a long, hairless pink tail add to its verminous appearance, and the smell of sun-baked sewage practically steams off its patchy fur.

In front of the creature and its rider is a rain barrel, behind which a welll-dressed man in hiding and calling for help.

As you arrive in the small square, you witness the goblin rider kill a dog with his oversized dogslicer. As the animal breathes its last, four more goblin emerge – cheering excitedly. You have the element of surprise.

You arrive at the bottom of the square – row 15 on the map – and can arrange yourselves wherever you like and take one surprise action before combat begins proper

Stop movement at E15. Cast Sleep (Will DC 15; 10 ft radius burst) centered at the point where square H8 touches square G9 - this should catch the goblins in squares G7, H8, and G10.

Surprise Round

1. Jimmy rushes to the goblin closest to the party and thrusts his sword into its midriff. It wipes the excited look off its face, but it remains standing.

2. Ashbek charges at the goblin on the dog’s back. He swings powerfully but misses both beast and rider.

3. Old Redeye remains at the edge of the square. He waves his arms in a mystic way and utters words of power. Suddenly, a horse appears, looking angrily at the goblins and preparing to charge.

The goblins at j12, h8 and g7 appear transfixed by the sight of the powerful steed

4. Cuu appears to run at the spot occupied by Jimmy, but at the last moment steps to the side. His jagged edged sword cuts deep into the goblin and it proves too much for the creature as it falls to the ground, dead.

5. Aylmora edges onto the square and sings a snippet of a Varisian lullaby.

The goblin at i10 appears to fall asleep standing up and slowly crumples to the floor

6. Sapere remains at the edge of the square and lets fly with a dagger. It travels close to the mounted goblin but not close enough to cause any damage.

Housekeeping - a few questions have been raised, and now is as good a time as any to answer them.

Firstly 'special actions' like sneak attack and critical hits I will expect the player to call. I won't hold up the game asking for clarification. Linked to this, if a player says it's a critical but doesn't roll a second time, again, I won't hold up the game but assume the critical hit wasn't confirmed.

Finally, I will endeavour to put people where they want to be on the map. When two players state the same square, the one with the higher initiative gets there first and I'll put the second as close as I can. Ideally the second poster won't choose a square another player has picked. Similarly, if a player doesn't specify a square when he starts off the map, I'll keep him off the map.

Hope this clarifies matters.

That's OK. Jimmy picked it up and you re-posted - but it would have to be another 19 or 20 to be a critical (which it wasn't). So I'll take the 15 from your original damage roll.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 2

I thought you just have to beat the monster's AC with your second atk roll to confirm a crit. Use the link below and look up "Critical Hits". Regardless, the chance of me confirming with a 11 is pretty low, unless I go before the goblin and it has really crappy armor.

My bad for not looking at the map. As I hadn't performed any of the combat for this round as not everyone had posted, I presumed you were going for the mounted goblin. Without giving away his AC (!) you would have to score a 19 or a 20 to hit (and confirm a critical). In the new bestiary, even run of the mill goblins are now AC16.

Having studied the map, I see you are going for a different one - but yes, the second hit won't be enough to get through his AC (not that it will matter)
