I got in 50-50 so no complains :)

at least the one which I really cared more is in :D

congratulations to everyone who is in, to everyone who is not there will be other times so just keep working at it :)

Liberty's Edge Contributor

I am very grateful (and slightly surprised) that both of my submissions were accepted.

I look forward to seeing the work of others who made it in.

For those who didn't, I'll echo others in saying that you should keep trying. When it comes to getting published, talent is helpful, but persistence is the key to success.

And Happy Thanksgiving (to all who will celebrate it)!

<Wanders in trailing jellyfish, and with an octopus on her head.>
Persistence is good? Oooh, yes, I love seasons two, three, and four, of Heroes and the way that the output keeps getting even better and better. And I don't at all understand why a few nasty people snicker behind their hands when I mention this - well not unless they're unprincipled Asmodeus worshipers. Or should that be principled Asmodeus worshipers? Do they have principles or not, if they're lawful?
Ummm....

Persistence get's you on TV. Ratings keep you there. Once you get to be a known writer even your table scraps will get published until your name can no longer push paper.

Persistence also helps you improve your craft. I got in this time but there's no guarantee that I'll be getting into another. Getting published is all about writing and rewriting and then rewriting some more. You need to write well in advance of a deadline, set it aside, and then work at it some more.

Most important Charles is make sure you get it in on time. The expression "Stop the presses!" doesn't get used very often, and when it is it's BIG news. There aren't many writers that ignore deadlines, and I can guarantee unknowns like us can't! Your piece might have been 10 times better then mine but unless it was something that knocked Lilith out of her chair she's not going to bend her deadlines to include your piece. Especially for a Fanzine for a community like Paizo's. There are a lot of talented people here. I'm thinking Lilith got a lot of good submissions. Chopping 4,8,10 or even 20 was probably a very difficult job. Get it in on time next time Charles.

Edit: I hope that my reply doesn't come across as harsh. I want to re-assure you not make you feel worse.

Gah! I missed this!
Can someone direct me to the first Wayfinder thread?

When are the illustration commissions going to be handed out?

Ok, it appears that I've misread the posts in this thread. I had been under the impression that Charles hadn't gotten his entries in on time. This assumption was incorrect. I apologize Charles. You got your articles in on time and my comments were likely like salt in an open wound. I'm sorry to misrepresent you in this way Charles. I can only hope you can forgive me.

Art orders are being handled by the 'Frog/Hugo/Butterfrog.

It was. I received over sixty submissions - I had to narrow it down to a little more than half of that.

Indeed. That's a good amount of material you had to go through Lilith. Kudos to you and the rest of the folks putting this together.

Thanks for your hard work, Lilith...although, I know the hard work isn't over, yet. ;-)

That does soften the blow somewhat.

It's better to imagine you came 31st out of 60, than 31st out of 31!

It would be nice to be in, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
I'll look at it as practice, for a later opportunity.
It's quite sobering to see one statblock take up a third of your word-count, and realise half your supporting text has to be cut.

If I were to do it again, I'd focus less on the story so far, and free up space for freeform tips on how the NPCs interact with PCs after they meet. I was trying to fit too much (history, statblock and adventure idea) into the small space available.

It was enjoyable creating the statblocks, something that is harder to say in 3.5. Even though I'm following the PF evolution closely, I'm still running a modified 3.5, yet despite stopping to check for changes in a deceptively familiar/unfamiliar ruleset, it was still straightforward.
Can't wait to see the increase in efficiency for doing skills for templated monsters with multi-class levels, and Int increases!

If you didn't make the cut don't throw your work out! Rewrite, rewrite, rewrite! Get someone to read over your work. Ask for criticism. There's only so much you can see on your own.

Welcome to the world of RPG writing...and now you see why multi-templated statblock monstrosities don't show up very often in adventure modules. :P

I got 2 out of 3 in so I guess thats not bad. (And Lilith sent me one of the nicest publishing rejections I have ever recieved too.) So where do we send the rejects if they are good enough to be read elsewhere? I accidentally deleted the rejection letter before I meant to.

Liberty's Edge Contributor

Wicht, I don't know what the next project Liz mentioned is going to be, but if your third piece is Pathfinder fiction, we'd be happy to have you join us at PathfinderChronicler.net. We're a small group dedicated to Pathfinder fiction and to helping each other improve our writing skills by critiquing and editing each others' work, then publishing it on the site.

Check us out. If you have any other questions, you can PM me on the site or send me an e-mail at paris.crenshaw@gmail.com

Cheers!

The Exchange

Know the feeling Wicht. I didn't attend too many school dances becuase of the rejection thing. Naturally, I became a great dancer in my own mirror.

I signed up for 2 projects but I haven't heard back on what they are although I might do the editorial again.

They're actually one of the selling points in published adventures, for me. I usually run 'Town Guard 2' and 'Drunken Sailor 1' by the seat of my pants, but every now and then, you just have to pull something out that has the players shaking their heads in despair/disgust.

And I like knowing that someone else has sweated out the donkey-work on these crazy abominations.

A lunatic mutant like Gulga Cench just has me cackling like a megalomaniac. I'm sure you know what I mean; after all, I was checking out DMTools a few months ago. Is there a single template out there, that you haven't yet applied to a stirge?

Yeah well, that was for fun. ;)

Thanks for reminding me about that. It was a fun little period of time when there were plenty of stirges on the brain and in chat and on the boards. Mmm...stirges.

Artist Call closed. Huge succes, over 20 artists, some of them professionals.

This issue art should kick arse even harder than the first one!

I wonder which one is drawing drawing a book reading gorilla?

Wonder if my Ulfen pieces will get some art! :D

I'm just psyched you put dibs on the art for the Gunslinger PrC when I initially floated the concept, Hugo. Hopefully you stuck with that claim; I can hardly wait to see what you come up with for it. :)

The Exchange

Gunslinger PrC sounds cool to me. Alkenstar goodness dripping all over it. Bring it on TSR Boot Hill. I can even see the tombstone and the electronic wagon going up the screen as I wait for my pizza and reach for another quarter.

Liberty's Edge Contributor

From what I'm seeing here, and the little bit I'm seeing elsewhere, this really does promise to be a great issue. Can't wait!

CJ, luckly this time there might be more artists than articles ;) so Maybe there won't be need for anyone to take more than one piece. There is even one article that uses 3 different artists for 3 different monsters.

There are at least 4 professional artists this time, so you can expect a SUPER EYE CANDY on this issue. So far there are two full-page art assigned and several half page scenes. I'm VERY excited about the art on this issue :D

I won't be doing interior art this time unless someone drops out and I come filling in. So no Gunslinger from me...sadly :(
