"You're making a horrible mistake here, you know."
Dagobert shakes an admonishing rod at the oncoming hobgoblins and shuffles sideways to let his companions fire through the bars.
Shift to K18

TGZ101 |

Portcullis or not, the party bursts into action. The spirit companion takes a piece out of the second passing hobgoblin and then moves to attack the first, jabbing its spectral sword into the creature's back. Vandis lays into the nearby pair with abandon, striking a solid blow on HS3 and bloodying HS2 with the follow through.
Dannad's dagger easily finds a victim, the blade maneuvered expertly through the bars of the portcullis.
Dagobert's wall remains standing strong and his psychic attack shakes the nerves of nearly every creature within distance. The previous looks of confidence have already begun to diminish.

TGZ101 |

HS3 goes down as Hawkseer's curved blade makes quick work of him.
Seeing the fate of their comrade, the remaining hobgoblins nearby go into a defensive stance, still reeling from Dagobert's psychic attack.
The dragonborn once again issues commands and manages to flank Hawkseer with one of the hobgoblins following his orders. He swings his two handed sword in a wide arc at the cloth clad avenger. Even Dagobert's wall of radiance is not enough to deter the large blade.
Wolf Pack Tactics; 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 vs. Hawkseer's AC. 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 damage. -11 HP to Hawkseer
"You're the ones who made the mistake of coming this far into the Beggar-King's territory. You are no longer dealing with surface scum."
A motion from the dragonborn brings half the archers into the room. The other half remain outside, ready to provide support. Soon, arrows fly across the room. Most bounce about harmlessly but one jabs hard into Dagobert's chain armor, nearly severing many of the links.

Feeling desperate and bolstered by the presence of the archers, HS2 ignores Dagobert's sanction and tries to take a piece out of the invoker. His short sword barely sneaks by the dwarf's strong defenses.

Yes, it looks like Dagobert's total HP was never updated on the Obsidian Portal site. I'll fix it and give him 4 more HP to make up the difference.
Everyone please check the hit points page and make sure there are no other discrepancies. Also remember you're all free to edit that page whenever necessary. I typically use this page above any others in order to save myself the trouble of browsing through each individual profile.

TGZ101 |

If it wasn't already apparent there is no update today either. Back-to-exams do not a good posting day make. Tomorrow afternoon I won't have any more excuses unless I'm asleep. There will be bonus XP and other rewards in the coming weeks for getting through this rough patch the last few months. I really appreciate everyone sticking it out. I'm very lucky to have this group of players for my first PBP as a DM.

TGZ101 |

Galad's spirit has little success this time and HS2 stands defiant until Vandis' mighty sword cuts the top off of the hobgoblin's wooden shield and continues into bare flesh, dropping it to the stone floor. Wooden splinters fly at the hobgoblin's nearby ally followed by the tail end of Vandis' swing, bloodying the creature before it has time to react.
Dannad prepares a dagger for flight from behind the portcullis bars while Dagobert takes action.

Hawkseer disregards the hobgoblin on his flank and stares at the dragonborn. "You will die today," the avenger says flatly as he slashes with his falchion.
Oath on Orliss. Focused Fury -- on hit, push HS1 to K16. Screwed up the roller -- a 16 (and a 15) for 8.

Dagobert's radiant hands slap some sense into the ram-horned dragonborn who directs his archers to attack the dwarf.
Dannad's dagger is off by a few centimeters and strikes the side of one of the bars, rattling around harmlessly before returning to the halfling's hand.
Hawkseer nearly hits the dragonborn with a powerful blow but his blade is turned aside as the last moment.
HS1, seeing that the eladrin is surrounded, attacks where he sees the greatest advantage. The jab to Hawkseer's side is a painful one, only kept from being deadly by his divine armor.
26 CRIT vs. Hawkseer's AC. -3 HP to Hawkseer after temp HP
HS4 follows suit after flanking with his Dragonborn commander.
21 vs. Hawkseer's AC. -3 HP to Hawkseer
The dragonborn brings his own sword to bare against Hawkseer, coordinating a joint attack with the flanking hobgoblin. The tall dragonborn's large sword scrapes the ceiling during his swing, however, and the attack is harmless when it finally reaches Hawkseer, who easily dodges out of the way.

The spirit companion takes a piece out of the neighboring hobgoblin and uses the strength of the blow to suffuse Hawkseer with spiritual protection.
Vandis' extended bastard sword fails to hit the hobgoblin, but with a fury he slices through the wall of archers with ease, felling both in one great swing. The remaining archer, up against the wall, looks at Vandis with terror.

Ignoring his wounds, Dagobert slaps serenely again.
"You don't want to upset our foreign friend. A lot of people could tell you that. Or rather," he adds meticulously, "they could if they were alive."

TGZ101 |

Dagobert, I'm going to go ahead and assume you meant to keep the wall of light up since you had plenty of actions. If not then let me know.
Dagobert fails to lay a hand on the hulking dragonborn but HS1 and 2 receive painful retribution from the dwarf. HS1, especially, looks to be almost dizzy with injury, swaying slightly and dropping his shield guard repeatedly.
Dannad takes advantage of the opportunity and sends a dagger at just the right moment as HS1's guard goes down. This finally proves too much for the stocky hobgoblin whose knees give out, leaving him bleeding out on the floor.
Seeing his soldiers faltering, the dragonborn motions for the next group of archers to enter.

Hawkseer, growing frustrated, continues to slash at the dragonborn, even while invoking his goddess's blessing to try to get out of the flanked position.

"A present for you, Dannad!" Even as he does so, the eladrin moves through the Feywild to avoid the worst of the open field of the archers. Fey Step to M16.

TGZ101 |

HS4 careens against the portcullis as Hawkseer slices across the dragonborn's exposed flank and teleports across the room through the Fey Wild.
HS4, not so easily cowed, shifts forward to attack Hawkseer again. The blow lands but is almost completely absorbed by Dagobert's radiant wall of light.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 vs. Hawkseer's AC for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 damage. -6 HP to Hawkseer.
The dragonborn licks its lips for a moment as flames begin to spill out of its mouth. With a roar, Hawkseer and Vandis are surrounded by flames.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 vs. Vandis' Reflex

He then moves forward to challenge Vandis, issuing a great roar that bolsters the nearby goblinoids. Vandis, still overconfident from killing the archers, is unprepared for the dragonborn's mighty swing and falls unconscious to the ground.
Bastion of Defense;1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 vs. Vandis' AC for 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (3, 8, 8) + 5 = 24 and all goblinoids gain 7 temp HP and +1 to all defenses for the encounter. -24 HP to Vandis
"You overstep your limits little man!" declares the dragonborn with a sneer before turning his cold, reptilian gaze on Dagobert. "You're next dwarf!"
HA4 steps away from the fallen Vandis with a smirk on his face and points his shortbow at Dagobert. The invoker's chainmail is up to the task, however, and absorbs the arrow.

Orliss takes advantage of the spirit companion's movements and swings his large sword at the apparition's head. The blow proves strong enough and the spirit is torn apart only to be recalled a moment later. Healing energy follows is reappearance and Vandis is brought back to consciousness.

Hawkseer's strike clearly wounds the dragonborn but also sends him into a wild frenzy. Reptilian eyes glare at Hawkseer with murderous intent.
"I will last long enough to see you lying at my feet, elfling!" cries the dragonborn, preparing his sword for a wide and powerful swing.
Taking the cue from his commander, the remaining hobgoblin moves to flank Hawkseer and lashes out with his short sword, using his tactical advantage to inflict further damage. The sword is no match for Hawkseer's divine armor.
12 vs. Hawkseer's AC will miss. No damage.
The hobgoblin then says something to the dragonborn using his native goblin language. No one understands the words, but he refers to the dragonborn as Orliss. Orliss moves in time with the hobgoblin around Hawkseer, putting the hobgoblin in line to attack Dagobert while he swings his sword at Hawkseer.

Galad, I'm fine with allowing a burst through the grate since you're up against it and still have line of effect to everyone.
Galad's waves of healing bring much needed aide to his wounded comrades on the other side of the portcullis. The attack also brings a wince of pain to Orliss and the last remaining hobgoblin.
Vandis brings himself to his feet with the sound of clinking chainmail and attempts a great sword strike against HS4. The hobgoblin sees it at the last moment, however, and manages to block it with his shield though the shock nearly tears it from his hand.

Dagobert the Luckless |

Somewhat startled both by the abrupt arrival of a hobgoblin next to him and Vandis's defense, Dagobert makes a small clucking sound and eases away. Admonitory hands of light try to clout sense into the remaining archers and almost as an afterthought, tap the dragonborn on the shoulder.
