Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Works for me. Dagobert is more of a distance bod. Irocar seems like the one to clobber here. Not that I'm meta-gaming or anything, but a named NPC usually means trouble :)

Male Human Expert 1

Dannad's dagger flies flawlessly and cuts deeply into D4 before returning to Dannad's waiting hand.

The man who must be Irocar stares out from under his huge helm and draws back the longbow for a shot at Vandis. The shot soars perfectly, and neither the combined efforts of Galad's spirit companion nor the prescient mind of Kenneth can prevent the strike from hitting hard into Vandis' hide armor. The fighter falls prone to the floor and starts bleeding out.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 vs. Vandis' AC. CRIT, -13 HP from Vandis

The remaining Dog Brothers let out a cheer as Vandis falls to the floor with a quivering arrow sticking out of him.

"Irocar! Irocar!" they chant before turning back to the fight.

D4 whips a dagger at Kenneth and it slices across the bard's arm.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 vs. Kenneth's AC for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.-5 HP from Kenneth

D3 also takes a shot at Kenneth with the heavy crossbow, having already seen the futility of taking on the Spirit Companion.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5. -5 HP from Kenneth

Both D3 and D4 then slink further into the room as far as they can with Dagobert's shards pinning them down.

"Vandis, it is not yet your time. Be healed." As Vandis and Kenneth feel their wounds heal, Galad ascends the stairs and the spirit advances on the thugs. The spectral forms of two deva appear near the bloodied thug, only their blades visible with any clarity, and slash into him before fading away.

I assumed Kenneth was going to heal him last turn *grumble grumble*... Anyway, Healing Spirit on Vandis (1d6 ⇒ 1 to Kenneth), Moving myself to I5 and the spirit to G7 and using Twin Panthers on D4. (vs Reflex, allies get combat advantage against enemies adjacent to spirit, if first attack kills D4 second goes to D2 with -3 to the roll) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 161d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

M Human (Prescient) Bard/Cutthroat 1

Sorry, Kenneth's player has been out of it lately. That, and Kenneth is down to one heal, so was saving it for somebody dying.

Male Human Expert 1

Kenneth, feel free to post your action as well and I'll put it all together. I'm hesitant to post for Vandis right now as he seemed like he had a plan. Also, I'm at work till midnight (EST) and don't have my maps with me. :)

Male Human

Whoops, missed this. OK. Move -crawl to G6. Standard - Lunging Strike on D4.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Male Human

If that hits his AC...

2d10 + 4 ⇒ (9, 2) + 4 = 15

Vandis grits his teeth and slashes at one of the odious thugs.

Male Human Expert 1

Galad's spirit companion splits in two and tears brutally into D4 with vicious sword attacks. D4 is overwhelmed and falls to the floor with two massive gashes in his front and back.

Vandis crawls over and lunges forward, extending his bastard sword to its utmost length through the ethereal spirit companion and skewering D2 (changed targets due to circumstances), who howls in agony.

Yes, it looks like I got yours and Vandis' targets mixed up. In a strange twist of fate, however, you both did the same damage so it still had nearly the same result. As a retcon, though, D4 was killed by Vanis and D2 currently grants CA.

M Human (Prescient) Bard/Cutthroat 1

Kenneth looks sourly at Vandis. "Not again!" The bard steps into the room and takes in the situation. "Ok, big man (not you, the other one, the standing-up one). Come on down and show us what those muscles can do."

Minor: Majestic Word on Vandis, surge+4. Move: H5. Standard: Cutting Words vs Will on Irocar 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 psychic, and pull to F14 on hit, forcing a save against falling.

As the thug captain stumbles, Kenneth looks with curiosity at his wand,. "Well, look at that, it works!"

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Shuffling his way alongside Kenneth, Dagobert jabs his staff towards the remaining Dog Brothers.

"Stay," he tells them firmly. "You too," he adds for Irocar's benefit.

Move to H6.
Radiant Hands (Ref) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 v D2; 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 v D3; 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 v Irocar. 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 damage on hit. Misses Irocar, unfortunately.

Male Human Expert 1

Kenneth's bardic song grants Vandis some much needed relief while his biting tongue, infused with magic, has the opposite effect on the imposing Irocar, who is pulled dangerously to the edge of the loft. The War Captain manages to grab the doorframe just in time, however, and while still prone, he avoids the fall.
Save vs. Falling 1d20 ⇒ 10

"If you want to see me up close bard, then be my guest. I'll make sure you're the first to die!"

Dagobert then lets loose with his invocation, pummeling the two remaining dog brothers with holy might. Irocar, however, easiliy rolls away from the attack.

"I got your backs boys!" yells D2, who is already bleeding a great deal. "I'm done for anyway, get outta' here!"

The braver than expected dog brother then steps forward to attack the prone Vandis with a Vicious Strike. "I'm takin' you with me big man!" he screams, before plunging his blade down into Vandis' side.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 vs. Vandis' AC for 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 3 = 13. -13 HP from Vandis, who is once again bloodied

Dannad Bumbleroot wrote:

Yes, I believe the standard penalty for attacking around corners is -2 to attacks. Right now that's offset by the combat advantage though.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Just wanted to make sure.

Dannad shifts forward up the stairs to stand beside Dagobert, bringing his knife out to slice at the unsuspecting dog soldier facing his dwarven ally.

Sly Flourish with Sneak Attack vs D2, 21 vs AC for 23 Damage. Take that!

Dannad's blade rakes through the soldier's gut, slicing him open and letting his entrails spill to the floor.

Male Human Expert 1

Dannad makes grizzly work of D2, who falls to the floor with barely a sound after the halfling's dagger shoots opportunistically around the corner of the stairs.

Irocar, enraged by what he sees, stands up and climbs down the ladder, drawing his wicked bastard sword at the bottom. With wild eyes, the War Captain then charges Galad's spirit companion (Action Point). The blade gleams unnaturally sharp in the light of Dagobert's sunrod, and its power is obvious as it severs the ethereal companion's head, banishing it and transferring some of the blow to Galad.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 vs. Spirit Companion's AC for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12. -5 HP from Galad

D3, bolstered by the presence of his captain, moves towards the party.

"I ain't goin' nowhere Captain! We have a reputation to uphold!"

He then fires a heavy bolt at Kenneth, but the arrow goes too high and skitters down the stairs.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 vs. Kenneth's AC for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.

A small amount of blood dribbles out of the corner of Galad's mouth as the spirit reforms next to Irocar and slashes at him. Meanwhile, Galad digs deeper into his memories, calling forth several past lives. Allies feel their wounds mend, while enemies find new ones opening up.

Summoning the spirit in H7, using Defending Strike (vs Reflex. adjacent allies get +1 to all defenses), then spending an AP to use Spirit of the Healing Flood(vs Fort, Miss: Half damage Effect: Allies get Regeneration 2 while bloodied and can end this effect as a minor action to heal 10 damage). Defending Strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Spirit of The Healing Flood(vs I and D3): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Male Human Expert 1

I'm going to give Vandis a few more hours and then I'll be posting for him. May not have time for a full update until tonight since I'm driving 3 hours back to my hometown this afternoon, but I will get something up for sure.

Male Human

Regen 2 thanks to Galad. Move - Stand up. Standard - total defense.

Vandis pulls himself to his feet, and glares stubbornly at the leader of the enemy band.

Male Human Expert 1

Galad's spirit companions appears once more in a different location and rake's its sword across Irocar's chainmail, likely causing some serious bruises.

Galad's healing flood then washes over everyone and throws D3 back against the wall. Irocar, however, stands unmoved in the onslaught.

Vanids then stands up and takes up a defensive stance with his weapons.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll fix it with the next update.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Depends if D3 is still standing. If he is, going with Radiant Hands again.
Radiant hands (Ref) v D3, Irocar (1d20+5=14, 1d20+5=10)
Radiant hands damage if needed (1d4+4=6)
Likely useless.

If D3 is dead, then Grasping shards centred behind Irocar:
Grasping Shards (Fort) v Irocar. On hit target takes 4hp damage and is slowed (1d20+5=13)
Rubbish again.

Maldictor's doom as a minor. Only targets enemies. Each enemy takes a -1 penalty to attack rolls and saving throws to the end of my next turn. Whenever a target is hit by a fear attack before the end of my next turn, they can be pushed one square as a free action.

Shuffle behind Vandis.

Sorry for lack of flavour - got classes and have to run.

Male Human Expert 1

Kenneth's short sword gets past the dog brother's defenses and draws blood. The bard's strike also leaves the dog brother off-balance and vulnerable.

Dagobert's attack barely overtakes the remaining dog brother, who gapes with surprise as the radiant hands knocks him back.

"Sorry....Captain....," gasps the dog brother, before collapsing.

Dannad plays it safe and keeps his distance, spinning a confusing pattern and tossing his dagger at the end of an exaggerated movement. Sly Flourish
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 vs. Irocar's AC for 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12. CRIT for 13 + 1d6 ⇒ 1 for 14 total.

Irocar takes the blow in stride and lets out a mighty battle roar, fortifying his resolve after Dannad's terrible blow.
Irocar gains 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10 temporary hit points.

"I have a promise to keep bard," says the enormous Irocar as he moves around Vandis and away from the spirit companion.
Galad, your spirit companion can make an opportunity attack.

Irocar then winds up with an enormous one-handed swing of his bastard sword and swings right for Kenneth's midsection, catching the bard off guard with its sheet power and instantly rendering him unconscious and dying. Brute Strike
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 vs. Kenneth's AC for 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (7, 8, 6) + 5 = 26. -26 HP from Kenneth, who is very very much dying.

Irocar lets out another boisterous shout of triumph.

"Promise kept, little man," he says boastfully. "Now...who's next?" asks the War Captain as he turns to face the party.

Spoiler:
Umm, Kenneth isn't dying. He's at negative bloodied; he's dead GiM.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Spirit's Fangs(vs Reflex): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

"Kenneth, be healed!" The spirit drifts over to the captain and once again slashes into him before entering a defensive stance.

My last Healing Spirit on Kenneth, extra 1d6 ⇒ 3 HP going to Vandis, moving spirit to F6 and using Defending Strike (vs Reflex) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

EDIT: Of course, that assumes Kenneth is actually alive...

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

I doubt it makes any difference, but Maledictor's doom means that Irocar should have been (and should still be) rolling at -1 to attacks. Is he bloodied?

Dagobert's jaw drops as Kenneth hits the floor and then he straightens his waistcoat.

"You've done a bad thing there. I'm not feeling forgiving about this."

Male Human

Minor = end regen to gain 10 temp hp. Move - shift to F6. Knockdown Assault vs Irocar's Fort.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

If that hits he takes 4 damage and is knocked prone.

Vandis strides up to Irocar, "Let us see what you city rats can muster..." he growls.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

"He's no rat. He's an otyugh."

Dagobert's voice is full of loathing. "A dwarven otyugh."

Male Human

"SHUT UP, DWARF!!"

Male Human Expert 1

Kenneth:
My mistake, I thought your bloodied value was 14. So yes, technically Kenneth was dead at -12, but as it's only your first day as adventurers I'm willing to let it slide since he was healed right away. Pat, are you okay with this or would you prefer to stick to the rules? I definitely don't feel like Kenneth's story should be done but I know lots of players who prefer to stick to the rules even when things turn bad.

Also, I'm starting to garner a reputation as a killer DM and I'd like to sooth that a bit for karma's sake. :)

Spoiler:
Honestly, I'd prefer to stick to the rules. Kenneth died fair and honest. Spoken as one killer GM to another . . .

Male Human Expert 1

Everyone:
Okay, talked with Pat and he agreed that Kenneth had died fair and square. I originally thought his bloodied value was 14 but it is actually 12. By a stroke of ill-luck, Irocar got exactly the number he needed. As such, my reputation as a killer DM grows. :(

Pat, feel free to write up another character if you'd like to stay in the game. I'm sorry Kenneth didn't last very long, but it made the most sense RP wise for Irocar to go after him.

Dagobert:
Yes, he is officially bloodied, though just barely. The -1 atk wouldn't have helped Kenneth any but I'll consider it for his next attack if the effect is still in place.

Despite the success of the spirit companion's parting attack, Irocar's promise is fulfilled as Kenneth's heart ceases to beat moments before Galad can reach him. The following strike from the spirit companion is less successful than the last, and Irocar dodges aside as the spectral blade passes harmlessly by.
Galad, I'm going to go ahead and put your last heal on Vandis since you would have known Kenneth was dead. Just let me know who want to have the extra HP.

Vandis then runs forward, sharing space with Galad's spirit companion and creating a rather disturbing image of a four armed warrior, and takes the larger man's legs out from under him. Irocar falls to the floor with a clatter of chainmail.

"I mustered enough for your dead friend. Let me show what a skilled warrior can do with one of those," remarks Irocar, looking at Vandis' bastard sword.

Extra healing goes to Dagobert, as he was the only other one adjacent to the spirit.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Thanks Galad. The way things are going, that's very useful.

As Vandis and Galad's spirit move to hem in Irocar, Dagobert realises for the first time that Kenneth is dead and a most uncharacteristic rage rises in him.

"FINISH THE SCUM! DO IT NOW!"

He stabs his rat-headed staff in the air sending a scream telling of the warchief's imminent defeat screeching through the shabby room.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 - Whispers of Defeat (Will). On hit, Irocar takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls and if he misses takes 9hp psychic damage. Since he's under the Maledictor's doom, and this is a fear effect, he can be pushed one square.

Do you want him pushed into the corner or are we better off leaving him where he is so Dannad can flank with Vandis?

Using AP to Hand of Radiance him.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 - Ref. Unlikely to hit, but if it does, 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Move to H7 to let Dannad through.

Male Human

Dannad flanking with me would be great. SNEAK ATTACK!

"Aye, we shall see what a skilled warrior can do," says Vandis grimly as his opponent sprawls on the floor.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Thought I'd be the first to bite it.... Condolences.
Dannad looks at the crumpled form of Kenneth, dumbstruck for a moment.
"Kenneth.... You killed Kenneth."
The halfling steps into the room, his eyes dark.
"You bastard!"

The halfling sprints diagonally from his position before doing a quick pivot-turn into a tumble that brings him to his feet next to Irocar.

Moving diagonally H6-G7-F8-E7

Dannad quickly brings his blade in to slash at Irocar, probing his defenses.

Probing Strike, 28 vs AC, 9 Damage, and Dannad gets a +1 to his next attack.

As his blade draws blood from the brigand captain, the halfling quickly shifts his weight and throws a thrust upward in an attempt to connect with Irocar's jaw.

Action Point into Dazing Strike. 17 vs AC, 7 damage, and if that somehow managed to hit Irocar is dazed.

Male Human Expert 1

Irocar's bloodshot eyes open wide as Dagobert's invocation sinks into his mind, putting up a mental block.

"Out of my head ya' bloody dwarf," yells the War Captain, "or I'm comin' after ya' next!"

Fueled by rage, Irocar easily bats aside the radiant hands that try to bludgeon him.

Dannad's dagger, however, has more luck as it slips past Irocar's defending sword. The second dagger strike, however, is turned aside by the larger weapon.

"You'll pay for that halfling!" shouts the mighty War Captain as he finally takes his heavy shield in hand. "That'll be a scratch compared to what I'll do to YOU!"

Irocar then feints and comes down at Dannad's leg with his bastard sword, ignoring the sanctions placed on him by Dagobert's deity and still managing to land a solid blow on Dannad's exposed thigh. Fate chooses to intervene, however, and what surely would have been a crippling blow is diverted as Irocar's sword is deflected by a small buckle on Dannad's leg armor. The buckle is shattered, but Dannad is completely unharmed.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 vs. Dannad's AC for 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15.
Second Chance Reroll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Irocar looks disbelievingly at his own bastard sword before his head is wracked with pain from Dagobert's invocation. The War Captain is now barely standing.

"Why....why are you even here?" he asks through gritted teeth as blood trickles out of his nose.

Edit: I just edited my last post to reflect Dannad's second chance. Fortune favored the little man this time. :)
