Trying another one, just for fun:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10
2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 = 12

1. Roll 2d6+6. This is one of your stats. Calculate remaining points. Repeat until you have 10 or fewer points left.
2. Find your points among the following:
• If you have 5+ points left, roll 2d4+7 for this stat.
• If you have 0 points left and this is your last stat, it's 10.
• If you have 0-1 points left and it's not your last stat, this stat is 8.
• If you have 1 point left and it's your last stat, it's 11.
• If you have 2-4 points left, this stat is a 12.
3. Repeat step 2 until you have all your stats. Verify your point total, and if it's off, raise or lower your lowest stat(s) to comply with 20pt buy.
RACE:

I advise against rolling randomly for feats and traits. Have fun!

Gotta keep trying until I roll a non-wizard...
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

That +2 racial Perception will help with the trapspotting, the solid CON will help with HP/Fort, and with the APG or ARG we can even get +2 Will. Not too shabby!

Or at least tables that one can roll on to ditermine their next PC.

2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11
which makes the last stat 14
2d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10 Raise to 14 to abide by 20 pt by :p
1d100 ⇒ 67 Halfling
1d100 ⇒ 15 Bard

Jiggy, can your method produce a 7? Given that 101 of the possible arrays include a 7, it seems reasonable to want 7s to come up.
Another note, 177 of the possible arrays will include a 7 or an 8. That is 63%. 231 out of 280 include a 7, 8, or 9. So 82.5% of the possible arrays have a "dump stat." D@%# min-maxers.
Dylos |
Actually, using the method I put together, that last stat would be rolled, not an auto-14.
EDIT: And you wouldn't raise your rolled 10 to a 14, either, since once it hits 12 it's no longer your "lowest stat(s)". Instead, between that and your other 10 and your 11, you'd end up with three 12s.
You mean 4 12s? So it'd be 15 14 12 12 12 12, ok for a bard, I suppose, but not for much else.
STR: 10 DEX: 16 CON: 12 INT: 12 WIS: 12 CHA: 17 Halfling Bard then.

Yes, it can produce a 7. You adjust your lowest stat(s) to match the 20pt requirement, so high rolls could result in one or more 7s.
If you'd like to include a higher possibility of a 7, you could always replace the 2d6+6 roll with 1d12+6.

Compare to 99% of NPCs, who all have a pre-racial 8 (and the vast majority of them also have a 9).

I must have missed this before, I think I might try the Jiggy method for my next character.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11 +1
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13 +3
