Has anybody seen these TV movies ? They encompass the Discworld novels The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. They were shown on German TV yesterday, at prime time. I love these movies, they capture the spirit of the novels quite good, and do a good job reflecting Terry Pratchetts very odd british humor. Great stuff!

I wasn't a huge fan of COLOUR OF MAGIC/LIGHT FANTASTIC David Jason is way too old to play Rincewind and it changes the story too much to have him as an old man. It was also a bit suspect that the Chinese-esque tourist in the books got changed into an American, but Sean Astin did a good job as Twoflower. I suppose they're not going to do INTERESTING TIMES (as it's one of the worst Discworld books), so that change doesn't matter.
I thought HOGFATHER was much better. The actors were stronger, the story more focused and David Jason in a much more appropriate role as Albert. I appreciate the fact that it was Jason's involvement (as a huge fan of the books) that got the TV adaptions made, but he really should have stayed as Albert. Since Death is in COLOUR OF MAGIC anyway, it wouldn't have been a huge change to have Albert show up a couple of times (and they had to change Death's role in the TV series to suit the later books better anyway).
They're now filming GOING POSTAL (Jason is sitting this one out) in Hungary and will be showing it in the UK over Easter 2010.
