I'm planning on buying a hardback copy but I will be at GenCon when they come out. Being a GenCon veteran I know just how difficult it is to get anything that is in high demand within the Dealer's area. Lines that go forever and make a mess of the main traffic areas (really annoying other dealer's too).
Is there any possibility of Paizo allowing gamer's to pre-order and pre-pay before GenCon and then have a selected/designated "Will Call" booth for pick-up of the books? Maybe one set-up outside the dealer's area (or near the registration area) to lessen the load (and, dare I say it, maybe even available on the 12th to avoid the release rush).I'm thinking this would reduce the delays inherent in dealing with payment and allow a faster, more gamer friendly attitude toward pre-orders and GenCon. Maybe make it a rule that all pre-orders must be picked up before Saturday evening. This way you can place any books that weren't picked up to be available "at-large" on Sunday morning and avoid the problem of bringing any home.
A database or just a logbook (think voting signature books) to be signed off upon pickup, plus proof of purchase and picture ID would be all that is necessary; no money changing hands, reduced time to pick-up, reduced impact on dealer's area.

We considered doing preorder fulfillment at Gen Con, but it has too many problems of its own.
However, our point-of-sale system has been designed with transaction speed in mind, and we will have one register that's going to be dedicated to Core Rulebook sales only (at least, as long as doing that is helpful).

Thought I saw mention in one of the other thread that some of the 3PPs will also be selling the book (as cross promotion) which will help cut down some of the lines. Though that might have been a different company as I've been reading a lot of Gen Con release news.
I think you're thinking of something else.
I will be buying a second copy for myself and then a third copy as an early Christmas Present for a friend who is in the military and has a big family.

I preordered one copy through my FLGS. It's Millenium Games here in Rochester NY. I hadn't been inside in a while and to my surprise (and delight) Paizo products take a good 15-20% of the display space dedicated to RPGs as you enter the store. It's right next to the 4th Ed stuff, which predictably takes 50% of the same display. All in all, I thought that was pretty decent exposure. The rest of the RPGs are to the back of the store but Paizo occupies prime real estate in terms of shelf space.

Sorry to be the pessimist but I expect large crowds for those between-slot times; hmmm, I guess from your side that's being an optimist huh. Good Luck however you work it.

Don't get me wrong—I suspect (ok, yes, HOPE) there will be lines, but I expect that those lines will move swiftly.
Is there a subscription that includes the book and PDF?
I wasn't able to find it in the on line store.
Last week, when I heard that the pdf would be priced at $10 (okay, $9.99), the first thing I did was tell my local store owner that I would be able to buy the book directly from him.
With his discount to people who pre-order and pre-pay, I will end up paying just about the same for book and pdf that I would by subscribing at Paizo and getting the book for free.
But this allows me to support the store that I spend so much (too much) time in.

Can you make a "Oh My God you Stink!, Go Over there!" line? And a "You should have done this with Pathfinder" line?
Having a line dedicated to one product means that line is automatically the longest. Having three lines dedicate to all of our products means that for about 50% of our transactions in the first couple of days, all three lines will be dedicated PRPG lines and the whole thing will move faster. I used to work in retail managing a multi-million dollar outlet with exclusive releases just like this and let me tell you, when the fever to get this product is on, 90% of the customers will be buying just this product. Barring unforeseen technical glitches, the line should run relatively fast.

Which line would you think would be faster? I can pay either way, but knowing which line to get into would be best.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer but Tin Soldier has 2 Stores in Sydney - one in the City and one in the outer burbs. So that may be over the two locations.
Hmmm... any news about overseas retailers? I´m just curious when we can expect the book at, say, Ulisses. I know that a lot of unforeseen things can happen while shipping the books (like customs or a strike somewhere), but do you have any idea when they are _supposed_ to get it?
I guess I´ll just order the Bestiary when I pick up the basic rulebook, and I do hope Ulisses ordered enough copies.

Well the UK FLGS that I keep posting links to everywhere is having a "Launch" for "Pathfinder RPG Society" which I take to mean, the launch of the RPG, and the start of society play at the store... That's on the 16th, so they seem to think they will have it on or around the release day.
