Okay, so trying to "keep it real" and all I have been doing some looking on Wiki and making correlations between Earth and Golarion (yeah I know but the only reference I have!)

At first I was going to use Crete as a reference for climate for Absalom, but decided it is too arid and barren, and am now using Sicily as a source. As such, I am figuring Spring high temperatures are a comfortable or even cool low 60s to low 70s-ish. For summer upper 70s moving into upper 80s and low 90s. The Fall and Winter drop into the 60s and 50s. Rainy season runs from to early spring.

Why do I care? Well, during the summer, when the PCs are out adventuring, sometimes it gets above 90 degrees. And that means that when it does, those wearing any armor or explorers outfits, need to be making some Fort Saves.

So, then Osirion I am using Egypt, specifically Cairo (duh). This means the PCs will need to make Fort saves once an hour for 5-6 months of the year during the hottest part of the day! Now, I personally love this. The land takes on character and flavor itself. Instead of just being some anonymous locale that could be anywhere, the land itself becomes an antagonist at times. The PCs have to be conscious of the time and temperature. Wear the armor and adventuring gear too long and you get heat stroke. The land of Osirion itself is making the PCs conform to ITS way of life, not the other way around!

So then, if you were running an adventure in Osrion, would you just ignore the heat of the desert and let your party run across the desert in plate armor and explorer's outfits with? Or would you make the land part of the adventure and have the PCs worry about heat stroke? What happens if the party gets into a fight during the heat of the day?


I use climate as yet another obstacle which th PS's have to deal with (of course, sometimes weather CAN be beneficial).

That said, I only do it as long as doesn't spoil the fun. That means that I scale the use of climate from "Real" to "annoying", depending on what else is going on.

Neat idea, using real Earth climate - why didn't I think of that?! - duh...

Something I have used in the past that made climate easy and predictable, was to find a location as a sample, and I found the previous year's weather. I matched up game date to real date and I had a year's worth of weather already made. When that game day came around I looked to see the temperatures, if there was rain or windy or whatever. That worked really really well and easy for me.

I hope to do the same here. Assuming I can find records for a city in Sicily and Cairo.

Total thread necromancy, but I just converted The Weather in the World of Greyhawk article from Dragon Magazine #68 to Golarion. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
