First off, welcome to Scattered Shores! Everyone feel free to take a couple days and maybe post a little about yourself, your gameplay style, and anything else you want! As previously stated, I'm hoping to kick off the first story portion of Scattered Shores Episode 1: Stranded in Midsky by this Thursday. Please post here under the alias you will be using for game with your 3rd level character rolled up and entered into Paizo's character sheet system.
Also if you guys want to chat in character a little bit just for shits and giggles before the 'real' game starts, everyone will be starting on board the Dervish, crew and passengers alike. Illia Stormborn is Captain, and Daertin 'Dart' Allecht her first mate. Illia holds mess in the ship's middle deck, and crew and passengers are encouraged to eat together and get to know each other, share stories, and play games to while away the time, as the ships voyages often number in weeks. I'll try to stop in as I can to facilitate, but we'll say that it's mess time on the Dervish, and you have all heard the bell to mess summons. Feel free to free form and get to know each other as people and players =)

OOC
Well, I'm here.
Character has a couple of bits left to complete. What are we doing with gear? Standard 3rd level 3000GP or something else?
In addition I've left my background blank so far, I'm guessing I signed up with the crew as a quick way of leaving a city after being caught flirting with the wrong guy, but I'm not sure on the world background to make a coherent background just yet.
Sirsi (pronounced Seer-Sea or Saucy, depending on how attractive she thinks you are) forgets the work she's supposed to be doing as she hears the time-honoured signal for food. With a quick sidelong glance at her nearby crewmates she dashes to mess.

Hrmm I had said four players but...I like your character so five players it is =P. Starting wealth at third level is 3000gp, anything in the Pathfinder Beta PHB is fair game. I will not be giving character sheets more than a few quick glances so we're on the honor system here, but trust that I will notice ridiculous brokenness.
Anything that you really just want me to see put in a spoiler and do something like DM: or Caith: or if it's a whisper for another character use a similar format. I will also be using this format for character specific info(secret character info, gather information, spot checks etc) and i trust you to not cheat(but I will be =P).
Sirsi:
A brief bit of information about the major towns and kingdoms of Narscint:
The Desert Empire of Omri
Note: Any operational crew members or officers of an airship must be from the nation of Omri, and most Omrians are human. There are very few exceptions.
Port of Storms
Harbor Kingdom of Adenar
The Floating Metropolis of Midsky
*update* Welp I understand it's memorial weekend, but I haven't heard much and I assume at least one person won't end up with us so I'm bumping to a max of six, assuming that at least one person will be dropping out and we'll probly end up with five. If not, we'll make due =)*/update*

caith |

Critical Information from the Original Thread - I'll move it all to here so there's one thread to refer to rather than two! Also I will be itemizing and rewriting, so this can be something of a living and growing guide to the world
Narscint, the World, and an introduction
The game opens on the Dervish, a 'Zindt' (great, mighty) class ship of the Omrian air ship fleet. Captained by Illia Stormborn, the players will begin play as either a member of her crew, or a passenger heading to the floating metropolis of Midsky. If the player has another destiny in mind, feel free to present it, I am fairly flexible =). Any core PHB race and class in the Pathfinder Beta are allowed. Starting HP max HD + Racial, 20 point buy for stats, although I may decide to do a modified array. The players will start at 3rd level, although I could be swayed slightly up or down. I also have some characters pre-genned if the player would prefer. Standard starting wealth by level, equipment anything in the Pathfinder PHB (DM veto rights reserved!)
I plan to run this as an 'episodic' series of adventures, that may not all share a continuous time line. Likely each adventure will last around a month, but that could change depending on how much time we all end up having to play. Be aware that the first episode or so will be fairly strict as far as choice in setting goes, but future adventures will be extremely player-driven, where your choices will make a significant impact on the world and your own destinies. As I said I am new to PbP but not as new to DMing, so bear with me I will be learning tricks along the way.
On Multiclassing
Multiclassing in SS is similar to the way it works in 2E. If you choose to multiclass, your classes will have to stay within one level of each other. If you instead choose to dual-class, your original class is still 'active' and you may use all of it's abilities; you are basically switching to a new class, but your old class may not receive any new class levels. This allows the players to keep a character thematically customized, while giving me a better idea of what's to come, as well as eliminating alot of powergaming =P. It also lends significance and permanence to class choices. There are *currently* no racial restrictions on classes or multiclassing.
Domain and Gods
All domains from the PHB are available, however there are 6 main 'gods', each representing an aspect of the basic makeup of the world. (you can skip the the end if you don't like to read!) Oro, the god of light, the sun, and the creator, is the basic 'Good' god. As an aside, alignment is more for roleplaying purposes, and has few effects outside of certain magical spells and the obvious basic struggle between 'Good' and 'Evil'. Being a cleric is fun, but complicated on Narscint so bear with me here. Beyond Oro are the Four Essential Aspects, 'Neutral' forces created by Oro for no particular 'known' reason, and the Wild Aspect of Magic. These aspects are directly responsible for all creation on the world of Narscint, are tied to it's existence, and also represent the Essential Forces of the world. Fire Air Earth Water Magic, each of these rules a critical domain but have many followers which are in turn their own creations. All of the basic races are descendants of one of the Aspects' creations in one way or another, and that's another story in itself. So through all that, basically choose your domain and your style of cleric and I will let you know where you can find a deity to worship, as it's an enormous(and growing) list.
Also regarding druids, I have expanded the list of Nature Bond Domains to include Healing, Liberation, Sun, and Travel, as well as the Luck domain for Halfling druids.
Dwarves and Plate mail
Regarding dwarves, nearly every dwarf in a clan or tribe went underground to fight off the Great Menace nearly a thousand years ago. Neither hide nor hair of the ancient dwarf peoples have been seen since then, although the occasional dwarf would show up from time to time. With the emergence of the Ancient Enemy, the dwarves have begun to resurface and join the lands of the Free Peoples (the floating city of Midsky, the Bay Kingdom of Adenar, and the Port of Storms on the forest continent of Syldonar). Basically most dwarves disappeared, and had begun to reappear over the last two hundred years or so, but in no significant numbers. Most of them are refugees, their clans and tribes shattered and scattered. The free dwarves that stayed behind are largely integrated into the lands of the Free Peoples. There are -no- independent dwarven settlements.
As far as plate mail goes, most of the airships have pretty decent safety measures, Aeroglass covers a decent portion of the open deck area, so you will not likely just fly out, and travel by conventional aquatic ship is treacherous, if not outright suicidal. It is as hazardous to wear plate or heavy armor in water areas as on any other planet(note that Narscint is roughly one and a half times the size of earth, so while there is alot of water, the land masses are still enormous in their own right)

Barak:
As for your story, I think a traveling healer would be most welcome on the Dervish. If you are from one of the clans, note that they are considered Dead at this point in time, as very few(if any) members of any of the clans returned from the centuries long underground war with the Ancient Enemy. The last remnant(and second son) of a Dead clan sounds like a great story. Free dwarves exist, but they are integrated into human lands and maintain no clan affiliation.

D'oh, just managed to kill my post.
Somewhat lack of sleep made me completely misread what you'd posted in the other thread (rather embarassingly), I will drop back out if you'd prefer to drop back to 4 players.
If you're happy to keep me, I think the Port of Storms looks like the right origin, working for passage. She's got a little bit of sailor-profession, which seems appropriate for a port city. I'm assuming that these airships run from profession (sailor) but I'm not entirely clear on what they are - are we talking about Eberron style flying ships, zepellins or something other?
I'll work on gear and toy with some background later tonight.

Nope we're goin all the way to six, so don't worry. As previously stated, all operational crew and officers must be Omrian-born and trained. But Illia does take on workers to perform tasks on the ship (cleaning/maintenance, medical assistance, entertainment, "entertainment") for passage. If you were looking for a profession description, the skillset is pretty specific, so profession (airship crewman) would be what you're looking for, as the skills to work an airship are vastly different from those involved in crewing an aquatic vessel.
As far as the ships themselves, they are more comparable to Forgotten Realms airships in style, though their methods of propulsion are completely unique.

hi! ive changed my character a bit, i hope that is ok
rolled hitpoints 2d8 =10
ive taken of the elixir swimming so i should be ok for starting expenditure
i have changed my feats to augment summing and spell focus conjuration
and taken Animal dominain instead of trickery
I hope all these changes are ok,
basically i want a character who can help out in fights as well as be the party healer,
I hope my changes are ok, if not, i will change back,
if anybody wants to play a cleric (now that we have 6 players)i will try a druid
of course a major problem with having lots of conjured creatures is the number or rolls i will have to do (on invis castle) in a fight

Character updated, just about finished. I'm a bit rubbish at spending loads of money, so I ended up dumping most of it on a ring of protection and masterworking up my gear.
I'm assuming we're on-board ship and unlikely to laden down with rations and the like?
It's up to you, after all, it's your character =). I'm just here to make sure everyone is playing fairly, and provide a world for you to goof around in.
Barak: See above =). Animal domain is fine, the extra rolls shouldn't be a worry, just make sure you have a stat block for every creature you plan to summon, and place it in a spoiler for me when you do cast that summoning spell. This goes for any summoning spell, make sure you have their CMB and final attack bonus(for each attack, if there are multiple)calculated, hp rolled, etc so i can pretty quickly glance and know what's going on.
Well all, it seems like we have three players ready to go, a fourth should be ready by tonight. One last character thing, I am requesting that everyone calculate and post their final bonuses(in your character sheet) for the following skills:
Diplomacy
Perception
Stealth
I am looking to start Thursday at which point all character changes must be final.

"Would someone pass the freaking peas!" His slightly shrill voice is obviously distressed as Harther Maol reaches for the bowl of peas in the middle of the table. "I swear these people don't have any respect for us little folk."
"Hey you! Yeah the half-elf with the handkerchief on your head. A little help here."

Havrin Stahl |

A tall, weatherworn human enters the mess hall and sits next to Harther as the gnome calls for assistance. "Allow me to help, small one," Havrin's deep bass voice rumbles softly as he hands the peas to Harther. "I believe the young lady may be about to grace us with a song." Havrin fixes his own plate and begins to eat as he waits, hoping that Sersi will bring out her fiddle to entertain those gathered in the mess hall this evening.
OOC: Finally got my stats together, just need to finish my background.

A woman in a loose fitting pale white blouse and colorful sarong stands up at the head of the long table in the center of the room. Fierce blue eyes and delicate(and pointy) ears mark her as none other than Illia Stormborn, fabled captain of the Dervish and the only foreigner, not to mention woman, to ever sit the helm of an Omrian ship. "Yes, I believe a song would be wonderful. Saus my dear, something upbeat, perhaps 'A Morning for Glory' or 'The Bear and the Maiden'". She gestures to Sirsi, and then takes her seat. A couple of other men, all shirtless in various style of loose fitting pants, stand and, exiting for a brief moment, return with various exotic instruments.

Love of song briefly conflicts with love of food, but Sirsi shovels a final scoop of food into her mouth in a most unladylike fashion and retrieves her Fiddle.
She starts with "The Bear the Maiden", starting off true to form as she takes the measure of the other musicions, assuming they prove competent she'll play a reduced version of the song a second time at an increased speed and see if they can keep up.

As dinner winds down, Sirsi and the other musicians start up a raucous tune, and many of the passengers and crew get up to dance and sing along as tables are cleared and moved against the walls. Roll a Perform check Sirsi, to see how well this reprisal goes

caith |

As the music starts up Antal gets a huge grin on his face. He skips over to the captain and bowing deeply he reaches for her hand.
"May I have this dance?"
Standing against the wall deep in conversation with her first mate, Dart, she pauses to look blankly around the room, seeking the source of the little voice. Looking perplexed, Dart nudges her and points downward. Beaming a warm smile at the little man in blue, she kneels down to eye level with Antal "Oh my little lord, your Captain is not one for dancing, but I am flattered." She pats his spiky hair and stands up to resume conversation with her First Mate, while a comely young gnome woman spins over and grabs Antal by the hand, dragging him into the middle of the room. She winks once at him before bursting out laughing "The Captain NEVER dances, it is known. But you're not the first to try!"

Caith - A few questions about geography:
Is Midsky part of the Omrian Empire? Is it safe to assume that since the Omrians are the only ones with airships, they control travel to and from Midsky?
Are the Port of Storms or the Harbor Kingdom of Adenar near Omrian lands?
Has the Dervish docked in any Omrian ports on its way to Midsky?
Just trying to get my bearings to figure out Havrin's background.
Thanks!

Havrin fixes his own plate and begins to eat as he waits, hoping that Sersi will bring out her fiddle to entertain those gathered in the mess hall this evening.
"Thanks fella. Name's Harther. Not sure what I'd do without mah peas." Harther manages to mumble between rather messy spoonfuls of said delicacy. "Would'ya look at that mook. Trying to dance with the captain. That takes some stones, and a slight lack of general intelligence."

caith |

Sirsi feels the tune is not her best, but she's well enough practised that she doubts anyone else notices.
By the time the tables have hit the wall Sirsi's first round of song has everyone dancing so wildly that noone notices a couple slips in measure. The other musicians are scarcely able to keep up and fall to accompanying as best they can. The Captain eyes Sirsi with approval...
Antal shrugs and smiles broadly dancing merrily with the young gnome woman.
"Hahaha!!! It all works out as I get to dance with you! Name's Antal by the way."
"The name's Celeste m'dear, well met" She winks at you as the dance shifts and partners switch; unfortunately you've been matched with a rather tall and strong human woman. She spins and lifts you with her bare and heavily corded arms, her cryptic tattoos and wild auburn hair marking her as a member of the Omrian crew "Little Boy Blue's got Little Brass Balls" she japes with a wink and a chuckle.
Midsky & Geography
Caith - A few questions about geography:
Is Midsky part of the Omrian Empire? Is it safe to assume that since the Omrians are the only ones with airships, they control travel to and from Midsky?
Are the Port of Storms or the Harbor Kingdom of Adenar near Omrian lands?
Has the Dervish docked in any Omrian ports on its way to Midsky?
Just trying to get my bearings to figure out Havrin's background.
Thanks!
Midsky is not a part of the Omrian empire, rather the seat of a nation far to the north and west of Omri. Neither the Port of Storms or Adenar are within a weeks' journey of Omri. None of the passengers would have been to an Omrian city, however the last stop for the Dervish was the Port of Storms to supply and pick up passengers, and before that to Adenar much for the same. Most of the passengers, you would know, are headed to Midsky.

Havrin Stahl |

"A pleasure to meet you, Harther. My name is Havrin. You are correct, it would take stones to ask the captain to dance." Havrin gazes thoughtfully toward the elf, and wishes that he possessed the nerve to ask the beautiful elf to dance, although he would likely cause her injury with his two left feet.
"So, friend Harther, have you been to Midsky before? This is my first trip to the floating city." Havrin attempts to strike up a conversation with the gnome, pausing to place two silvers in Sersi's tip container following the fiddler's latest tune.

Watching the gnome slightly bemused, Sirsi plays "Dancing with Giants" an oddly heroic whimsical tune of a girl who escapes a family of giants by dancing them to exhaustion.
She'll stick with the fiddle for the most part, though will break off to sing enough lines to mark what the song is about
One perform check for the night, or do you prefer seperate ones?

One will do, I will ask for such checks as needed and try to apply them in whatever way keeps the game moving =)
As the next round of song winds up a few casks of ale come out and the passengers are encouraged to partake. Many of the passengers know the song, but the Omrian musicians are having a hard time keeping up as they have been learning an assortment of Western tunes during your stay.

Havrin continues to sit, conversing with Harther while watching the festivities. After a few moments, he gets up to stroll outside and get a breath of air. He will hang around outside the mess hall for most of the evening, entering occassionally if drawn by the music. Once the party winds down, he will make his way back to his cabin for the evening.

Side question - Has Havrin encountered the man in midnight blue pants aboard ship before? Would Havrin know who the man is?

Regarding rolls, I think caith should be rolling as much as possible to speed up game play. Basically in my opinion anytime he would ask us to roll a result (i.e. saves), he should just roll it himself.
I don't see there being any point for caith to ask us for rolls, then wait for all five of us to see his post, then each make a post, and finally for him to read those posts and give the results. This would slow down the game quite a bit as it would force us to probably take a full day for any sort of rolls like this.
As an example we would already be through the surprise round if caith wasn't waiting for harvin's reflex save. Let caith know your opinions on this in subsequent posts.

Sounds fair enough, I reply quite often from work, so I can't always access a dice roller anyway.

I've got no problem with it. :)
Regarding attacks of opportunity, how would your character generally respond if presented with an average AoO situation
A) Attack immediately
B) Save it for a more important enemy/better situation
C) Save it to interrupt a caster
D) I don't really "do" AoO

Hmmm, I guess it depends on the situation. For most situations, Havrin would attack immediately (particularly if the enemy in question has already caused Havrin a lot of damage, say like in the current battle where Havrin is now down to less than half his hit points and hasn't even made an attack yet!) ;-)
However, if it will be more advantageous for Havrin to hold his AoO in order to interrupt a caster or to use it on a more threatening foe, then he will do so.
Hope that helps!

Mix of A and B. Depends on if Harther thinks he'll be presented with another AoO opportunity. If not A, if so he'll go for the most impactful AoO.

So first combat finished, what are your thoughts?
I enjoyed it.
This is my first ever play-by-post, so for me it was a great way to see how combat works in this format and to work out the kinks.
I really liked the use of individualized perspectives during the battle. It may lead to a little bit of confusion, but I think that it helps reflect the chaos of battle.

Harther Maol |

I think the most important part about combat is flexibility with actions. I'm glad that caith is willing to take things upon himself if it is unclear, as the written word leaves a little bit to be desired as a medium of specific communication. Or maybe that's just my problem.
