That Citadel-class Cruiser does look good. We can prep for that.

The external fighter docks are okay. Characters would have to EVA to get to the fighters or there would need to be some sort of umbilical hookups, but it solves a problem. Since there's only one player character with a fighter, we can put a cheap Mankvim-814 in the other dock for completeness' sake & general use.

Anyway, still thinking about the start of the game... will post more today.

I had to give Cinder two knowledge skills because of the limitations imposed on what skills she could choose given her class and backstory (survival makes no sense in a person who panics if under an open sky, for example). I was wondering if I could switch Knowledge (Physical Sciences) for Acrobatics...I think Acrobatics fits with the character background better (hiding in small spaces or crawling through them to make difficult repairs) than Knowledge (Physial Sciences), but Acrobatics isn't on the scout class skills list. If it would be okay to take Acrobatics, please let me know. Otherwise I'll keep it as is.

Just wondering about the answer to my previous questions. :)

A little off topic, but are there any FarScape fans in here?
I've never actually seen the show, but some of my friends keep raving about it. Why do you ask?

I'm noticing some similarities between the crew of Moya and our group. The lead characters are all escaped prisoners or simply on the run(most for unjust reasons) from an oppressive military regime(the Peace Keepers), who decide to take flight to the "Uncharted Territories" as a means of evading the PKs.

The whole series has the characters go through a series of moral gray areas just to survive. Such as: a character agreeing to marry a princess to avoid the PKs; the whole crew plotting the robbery of a "Shadow Depository"(think of it as a Swiss bank built by criminals for other criminals to store their ill-gotten gains) in order to garner enough currency to buy a batch of 10,000 as a means of rescuing one crew-member's estranged son; as well as allying with old enemies to serve a common cause; then allying with current enemies to oppose a common foe.

Just ignore the shoddy FarScape video game that came out.

Bocce might be a good language, its an artificial language constructed to be speakable by the majority of sentient species in the galaxy.

The pirates will be the disenfranchised, and not any specific races. Humans & Duro will be the majority, as they are the majority species in the sector, with Duro being more dominant amongst the pirates due to their greater degree of dislocation. Huttese will naturally be another significant language amongst the pirates. There would be no other significant language group amongst the pirate groups.

Switching skills... not a problem on a case-by-case basis. Acrobatics sounds fine to me for Cinder in particular, and as others have pointed out, the rigid class skill system isn't always the best.

Okay, will have more tonight... first "in game post" probably not until tomorrow evening (California time) at the earliest.

As much as I've seen of Farscape, I've enjoyed. It was not a series that I watched. The same could be said of Babylon 5. just not enough time in the day.

I read a lot because of my commute, so I'm now moving into sci fi & Westerns from a more steady diet of fantasy (more romantic fantasy than swords & sorcery fantasy) in order to prime the pump for this game. Louis L'Amour is next up on the reading list, and I should watch Eastwood's spaghetti Westerns again some time.

We have one important detail we've missed! What should we name the ship?!

I've come up with a few names that Mayvar might have chosen:

Resolute
Resurgence
Triumph
Adamant
Valiant
Tenacious

I chose most of these names considering Mayvar was stranded on a deserted planet and managed to survive.

Of those, Resolute is my personal favourite. But what about everyone else? Also, Laris... Do you want to name the ship? You are putting up the cash for it, after all! The above would be Mayvar's suggestions... you have the final say!

If Soz is given a vote he would vote for Resurgence being the name.

Seems like most everyone is comfortable with the way things are. There are loose ends, and the ship's name should be resolved (or I'll assign it a name from its prior owner), but I'm sensing that these are perceived to be minor & not show stoppers. Should still be able to post a beginning this evening if only to begin.

Forums being inaccessible to me last night made things problematic, though. Did not get as much sketched out as I would have liked, not that there's a storyboard for this. It's more the history to write down so it all sticks in the end. I've got some detail work to complete as far as world building goes (monetary & mercantile issues in particular), so that might force a certain type of beginning while I straighten some things out.

Looking at the fighter jockey thing like cowboys from Westerns, which complicates some of the set-ups, but mostly in a good way. Have more ideas for stories and characters now. Star Wars seems more like a Western in SW's good moments, and too much like bad sci-fi space opera in SW's bad moments.

As we set out, I am looking at stories that are human, but not about humanity. Guns, love, revenge, loyalty to kin, money... NOT cosmological shifts, mitichlorians, distant galactic political machinations. Rugged individuals first/foremost, & not so much the triumph of the village or some pseudoscientific gobbledygook.

Sometimes I forget when it comes to Star Wars, which is why the genre of the Western is so good to get back to.

Any lingering wishes & requests, do let me know.

I like Resurgence too, it's a good name. How about we go with that if no-one else objects/suggests anything?

Slush Puppy just has a nice ring in my ears...

EDIT: I KNEW that had to mean something, so I just had to go ahead and look it up on urbandictionary...
oh, for lost innocence...

I'm pretty sure that Resolute, Resurgence, and Valiant are cannon names of specific Star Destroyers. I think Triumph could be one, but it could be as the Triumphant. Adamant might be one, as well.

Been a hectic couple of nights, since my hard disk completely crashed out and wiped itself. Been piecing things back together, while also having to look after my children.

I did have a long post typed out at around the time my computer died with a more detailed/revised background for Laris, but I don't have time to retype it all now.

No major changes anyway, but in line with thoughts on the noble families of the sector I'd be inclined to change Calder to being caught between Imperial tributes and Hutt trade domination & struggling to appease both sides.
Also adds to the confusion as Laris isn't sure if one side, both or neither are currently hunting for her...

Bummer about the hard drive.

As for more background detail, please add more as it comes to you. I don't consider any character background to be set in stone. It could all be lies and half-truths around the campfire anyway, at least until I conspire to bring your character's history up to the present day :)

Being caught between two sides is a good thing. Perfect for the setting, really. Like Clint Eastwood in "A Fistful of Dollars". The classic duality of danger and opportunity, which was also a good metaphor for the Wild West.

I'd say I would post ideas about how the situation is for Laris, but I should iron out some mechanical details for the setting & consider the start before I give further opinions on character backgrounds.

We've all got time to explore & create ideas, and hopefully everyone's hidden secrets and twists will amuse everyone else as we go along with the stories here.

Oh, multitool is fine.

Game thread here...

It's more of an "intro" post, and it sets the scene from the perspective of a NPC rather than your PCs. Read it, think about what might happen down on the planet. Probably not much to post in the game thread yet.

I am compiling a Discussion thread post that lays out what your characters know going into the game (trying to lay out some objectives for every character when it comes to this planet)... and then we'll go from there.

I assume there's no problems with me having a 'wardrobe' rather than having to specify individual outfits?

Discussion thread HERE (with some pre-scene motivations for each character, I think. Just priming the pump for roleplaying & getting into the opening act).

No problem. It's appropriate to your character.
