His hands work quickly, his words, rapid acrane intonations, and as he completes the spell he continues to advance, his feet now hovering 3 inches above the ground.

The mage stumbles backword, barely able to launch a magic missle spell before he stops just within the rings barrier.

Which of the 4 remaining Zanes does he aim for?

Barely flinching at his opponent's attack the wizard extends a hand dramatically and barks draconic words. A burning rock hurtles towards his off balance opponent. Kelgore's Fire Bolt 1d6 bludgeoning+2d6fire ranged touch)1d20+6=18, 3d6=12

His body does not have enough strength to keep from falling out of the circle when the burning rock slams into him. "Zane Argentus is the winner and will move on to the next round." The fallen mage is given a potion and is able to stand again. He walks out of the colosseum, fuming. Several more matches begin and end before it is time for Trymos to enter the ring. His opponent is an alluring half-elf, who smiles sweetly as he enters the circle. "Hello."

Human Warmage 5

Trymos bows slightly and taps his spear's point against his shield. "A pleasure to meet you too, my dear."

She gives a slight curtsy, still smiling, and says "Would you be so kind as to get me a glass of water?" You feel the urge to do as she asks.

She went first. You need to make a will save. And to answer your question, yes she did cast a spell and no it didn't look like she did.

Human Warmage 5

Will: 18 Assuming that saved...

"How about a little ice with that drink!", he says as a shard of ice shoots towards the elf.

Ice Shard: Missed, Damage, but who cares about it?

The shard lands at her feet, and then explodes into shards of ice.

Direction, damage: Lower left, 4 damage

EDIT: Spellcraft: 23

Shadow Lodge

"Oh, but I like my drinks hot!"
She runs toward Trymos, flinging out her hand to lob a ball of flame at him. But her aim is off and she misses.

Charm person.

Human Warmage 5

"A woman after my own heart!", he says as he sends a fiery ray at her.

Scorching Ray: 23, 15 damage

Spellcraft: 12

Shadow Lodge

Lesser orb af fire

She cringes as the fire hits her. "Ooh, you have a fiery personality don't you? Be careful, I just might rock your world!"
She raises her hand and makes a grasping motion. An arm of earth and rock bursts from the ground, attampting to grab Trymos.

Grapple check please.

Liberty's Edge

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

Davi

Spoiler:
Trying to get Malvoisin's Dragon's Delve going again. You still in?

Human Warmage 5

"I have no witty pun for this!"

Grapple: 10

No point in rolling, as it better be Earthen Grasp.

Shadow Lodge

Trymos In'clar wrote:
"I have no witty pun for this!"

And you are grappled! Yes, it is Earthen Grasp.

"What, you don't like the way I shake hands? At least your honest. I think I'll just cut straight to the point." She walks closer to Trymos, drawing a small dagger from her robes and casting a spell next to him. A barrier of blades surround her, forming a ring of spinning steel that cuts into his flesh.

Trymos takes 12 points of slashing damage.

Human Warmage 5

Trymos continues to grapple with the hand. "Oh, I thought of one! I've got to hand it to you, this is one tricky spell. So why don't you dispel it before I SEND A SCORCHING RAY RIGHT UP YOUR *senseless stream of profanity*"

20 HP, Escape Artist: I'm still shaking hands with Mother Earth

Shadow Lodge

"Oh, such bad language from somebady who appeared so nice! You want a hand? Okay..." With a word of draconic, her left arm becomes larger and covered in stone.
"Either give up and apoligize for your language, or I'll be forced to knock some manners into you." The blades once again bite into Trymos's flesh.

7 more points of slashing damage.

Human Warmage 5

"Even in the face of Orcus himself, I shall never surrender! So, just finish this already, put some effort into this!"

Escape Artist: Failed. Again.

"If you wish." She raises her arm... and brings it down on the hand, disspelling the blades as she does. As the hand crumbles, she backs away quickly.

"I will at least try to be fair."

Human Warmage 5

"Thank you. I take back what I said before. Now let's lay off with the puns for a bit, alright?" Trymos finally appears truly serious about this. As he backs away, a bright flash of light engulfs the elf.

Dawnburst (DC 16 vs Fort or be blinded), then moving away

Shadow Lodge

"Oh, is seems you have blinded me. If I can't see you, I won't let you see me." A few words in a strange language and some gestures, and she dissappears.

Human Warmage 5

"The thing is, if I cover a large enough area, it doesn't matter if I can't find you!"

With that, Trymos suddenly raises his hands up to the sky, and rocks from throughout the field hurtle up into the sky.

Casting Hail of Stone, using Sculpt Spell to change it to a 20ft radius ball, then using Sudden Widen to give it 40ft radius, and centering it on the last square she was in. Damage: 13 Reflex, in case I'm in the blast area: Saved vs DC 15, so only 7 damage if I'm in the radius

Shadow Lodge

"OW. Now your rocking my world! But you have told me where you are, so I thank you." She appears a little to the left of her original position, visible bruised, and words radiating cold come flow from her mouth. A thin gray mist rises from the ground, light dimming as it does so, and a slight wind sends a chill down your spine.

4 points of cold damage. No save, and you are fatigued.

Human Warmage 5

"Yes, but that doesn't really matter, because you're still blind. Besides, you showed me your position too."

Another shard of ice shoots out at her, but it missed and once again blows up at her feet. Trymos then moves away to prevent her from knowing where he is.

9HP left, Ice Knife: 3 damage, Spellcraft: 22

Kelgore's Grave Mist. How far are you moving?

Human Warmage 5

Let's say 30ft, assuming that I can still be within the circle.

Shadow Lodge

Trymos In'clar wrote:

Considering Trymos just correctly identified the Mist, I can believed he moved out of the it. And the miss chance for spell she's about to casts reveals...[/ooc]

"Let's see. If you were smart, you'd either move out of the mist or stay there and hope I thought you moved. This might have worked against another mage, but I have someone who can help. Shim?" [i]As she opens a pouch on her belt, a small lizard crawls up her arm. She raises here arm and moves it around until it points at Trymos. "There? Your sure? Thank you Shim, I'll give you a sugar-cricket when we get back to our room." Keeping her hand pointed toward Trymos, a thin line of lightning jumps from her hand, and unerringly strikes Trymos in his chest.

19 R.T. attack and 8 frggin' point of damage!.

Human Warmage 5

Trymos nearly collapses, his breathing ragged. "This was fun, but this ends now!", he says as three bolts of force lance out towards the elf.

1HP left! Magic Missile better knock her out! 12 damage

Shadow Lodge

As the missles slam into her, the half-elf gasps and falls. Her familiar dashes over to Trymos, hisses, and dashes back to his mage, while the judges declare Trymos the winner. As he walks out of the circle, Trymos feels his wounds disappear and he sees the half-elf's bruises do the same. The judges declare the next match is starting and soon this part of the competition is over. Violese is called next to last for her part of the tournament, her opponenet a halfling wearing armor and carrying a strange mace. He looks at her with obvious disinterest and stands in the circle, no emotion showing on his face.

Violese's expression is equally disinterested - all her focus is on the combat itself, acknowledging the halfling only as motion and stillness. Her rapier rests easily in her hand, pointed at her foe.

Initiative (1d20+7=15)

Male Tiefling Wu jen 5

Also everyone please double check your spells. It makes a big difference in arena battles such as this.

For example: Hail of Stone has a casting time of 1 round. So the half-elf had 1 round to try her own spell to disrupt Trymos' casting.

Just something to remember.

Cheers!

Human Warmage 5

Oh shoot, it is a full round casting time. I honestly just missed that. Sorry for the mistake.

Human Warmage 5

Wait, I just realized something. Blazing Hands can also be used with Sculpt Spell, does the same damage as Hail of Stone, and is normally cast as a standard action! So, mind if I retroactively cast that instead?

You just barely go first.

It doesn't really matter. You still be her... barely. ;p

Remember which/how many spells you have cast though.

Are there multiple rounds in a single day? And what's our starting positions - the same 50 ft?

Shadow Lodge

Violese Anshelyn wrote:

Usu's round started 3 hours before noon, Zane and Trymos's rounds started at noon, and yours began three hours after noon. And yes, the same 50ft.

No, I mean, am I going to need to fight again today?

Not to my current knowledge.

Violese narrows her eyes slightly as the signal to begin is given. "Asca esgal," she murmurs, and disappears.

Spoiler:
Swift invisbility, then double move - 40 ft closer and 10 ft to the right.

[time warp]"Your lucky, there was only one spot left for the puzzle contest."

You are shown to your building and your room. You arrive just as Usu bests his puzzle. Your task is to incapacitate your enemy mage without harming him. He of course is under no such restriction.[/time warp]

Violese, your opponent does not seem surprised by your sudden disappearence. He says only one word, "Doshaw", and darkness enshroud a 20ft area around him.

Dragonborn3 wrote:

Which catches me in it, yes? Still, it's only shadowy illumination, and it moves with whatever he cast it on, so I would expect to know roughly where he is. Has he moved?

Male Human Wizard 8

Good question, 3.5 darkness is much weaker. Which version are you banking on?

Zane Argentus wrote:

The one that goes with the edition we're playing, to be honest. But I only need to know which square he's in.

Female Gnome Warlock 5

okies a few questions i should have asked these earlier sorry, Can we use Potions, scrolls, wands? Who is the other mage you didn't give me a description or anything? and Woohoo i like time warping=D

Shadow Lodge

Zane Argentus wrote:

I think beta darkness is weaker, because a 0lv spell can counter it, while 3.5 darkness needs a spell of equal or higher level. I do not think you can see darkness moving while you are in it. Saphire, you opponenet is a dwarf wearing white robes with blue trim, and magic items come into play in the next round.

3.5 darkness is weak for reasons that have nothing to do with what level of spell counters it. It's weak because it doesn't produce actual darkness. It produces shadowy illumination, which means you can still see in it (though not as well); that's why it only grants a 20% miss chance instead of the 50% miss chance that full-on no-lights darkness would give. It really (and I'm not the first person to make this observation to be sure) should be called dimness rather than darkness. And because I'm not blind, I should be able to see the shadow line where the "darkness" ends, and so be able to tell if it's moving. I'm only like 5 ft within it anyway, so if he moves pretty much at all to his right (i.e., away from me), I'd pop out into the sunshine.

Shadow Lodge

You do not think he has moved.

Fair enough.

Violese flickers back into existence, shrouded in mystic shadows. Peering through them, she spies the darkened form of the halfling - or what she hopes is his form. In a rush, she leaps for him, shouting, "Dram sanya! Galar map!" as her rapier flicks out.

Quick cast true strike (which negates miss chances from concealment, as well as the more important benefit), move to where I think the opponent is, channel shocking grasp through my rapier along with a max Power Attack.

Rapier attack (1d20+26=46, damage 1d6+6=11, electricity 5d6=12)
Crit confirm (1d20+26=41, damage 1d6+6=8)

Glah. Terrible damage on the shocking grasp roll...

Shadow Lodge

Violese
A stream of words you can only geuss are curses stream from the halfling's mouth. He leaps back and you can barely see him raise his hand before something slams into you.

16 points of damage.

Violese grunts under the impact of whatever it was, but she is already chanting again as well. She disappears once more, far better than the shadows could hide her.

Another swift invisibility, then true strike, along with a move - either to keep up with the halfling (circling him if possible) or just to move around him so he has to guess which square I'm in.

Unable to locate Violese, the halfling adopts a defensive posture.
