I just made plans to attend the convention, which I didn't think I'd be able to do because of stupid work policies like "no one gets vacations in August, ever, no exceptions." Well, I can now attend because I got laid off the job. So I sent an email volunteering myself for whatever I'm needed for. Hope I'm not too late. I understand assignments went out today. Looks like I'm completely out of the interactive in any case, either as a GM or player, but whatever. I'm looking forward to helping spread the fun of PFS in any way possible.

We'll be glad to have you there, Yoda :) I just found out I'm in the interactive Saturday night.

Just got my Schedule, Was surprised to find out I am GMing the Same Event the Whole Con!... #29 The Devil We Know, Part 1: Shipyard Rats for slots 2-8.
My question is, Is #30 The Devil We Know, Part 2: Cassomir's Locker, a sequel to Part 1?

I would offer to... But I only have 1 King sized bed in my room, and not going to share that with someone...

I'm the same way, in fact I'm even running the same scenario. If I had to venture a guess, I would say that it is one longer adventure split into two parts for easier management... but I could be wrong.
I was actually wondering if anyone knew anything about being able to fit in slot 0's of some sort. Like maybe if a group of people all set to run the same adventure during GenCon could gather online so less people need to actually burn the scenario...
Any thoughts?

I am hoping not, Because if it is, I would prefer to run both parts so Players could have the chance to have the Same GM for both parts.

Well, the naming convention places it as directly related adventures, two parts to a single greater whole. And really, with the way adventures are run at conventions, there is really no way to guarantee people would get the same GM for both parts anyway. There is no telling if people would be playing the two parts consecutively, some groups won't be playing at the same rate and so forth. There is a lot of randomness that plays into mustering for adventures...
Josh,
to confirm quickly, the email I used to sign up for GM'ing is not the same as the one for my Paizo account. I didn't get any bounce back or anything, but I thought I would confirm you got my message.
-Thanks

I am running 30 & 31, I'd definitely would like to see 29 before running 30. Maybe we can get a slot 0 type thing going for those of us who are able. Im pretty adept with RP Maptools if theres any takers for an online deal.

Is anyone else worried about getting comfortable with all the changes from the Beta rules by GenCon? I have to admit, I know my 3.5 rules pretty well, but it took me a while poking around the Pathfinder Beta rules w/groups here at home to feel like I had a firm grasp on the changes just from 3.5 to Beta.
On top of that, I'm starting to hear horror stories about convention gamers with hair triggers and something to prove and I want to make sure I'm not the cause of a whole table's frustration with only . . . 2 weeks is it? of Updated Pathfinder rules exp under my belt.
Anybody have advice or sage wisdom to offer? Am I just being paranoid?
Will there be some forum in which those of us with advance knowledge and an NDA agreement (so no help from the home group) can put our heads together to discuss confusing points?

![]() ![]() |

Don't worry too much as the upside is that day one will be your day to get up to speed. Luckily the majority of the players will be slightly behind us so there will be some allowance for mistakes. Just focus on giving them a good experience and by day two you should be completely up to speed.
I'm helping with character creation the first slot and running Shipyard Rats the rest of the convention.
Josh is there a way to get a couple more mods so if needed I could jump in during my free slots to fill in if you're short a judge for some reason? I like that I'm running the same mod throughout, but if there would be a need for extra coverage, being familiar with one or two others would be handy. Just a thought.

I am hoping the NDA will allow us to Test run the rules with our Home game groups. I asked the question but it has not gotten answered yet.
I think Josh mentioned something about a email group to talk about the game...and COn Stuff, also a Thread, not sure if the Thread will be private.

I have #29 for one slot, #32 for one slot, with the rest being filled up by #30. I'm grateful that I get to run the first part before running the second for the rest of the con. Comes in handy.
Looking forward to seeing the NDA come out soon as well. I have a lot of stuff to read over before GenCon comes. :)

Next week. Maybe.
By the way Josh, I'd like to thank you for everything you're doing. I know we're all acting like anxious kindergartners about to go outside for recess and the teacher brought in puppies to play with.
So yeah, thanks for putting up with all the crap. :D

Next week. Maybe.
"Next week or bust."
Some of us have 60+ hour a week jobs that don't involve a lot of downtime, and a commute on top of that. Reading the rules on a computer screen in between dinner and bedtime and ignoring our family just to have a basic competency isn't my idea of being prepared. If not next week, that gives us, what? 18 days or less. Each day is important. And honestly, the "strung along" feeling is starting to get a little old. Maybe a little more detail as to why it's only a "maybe" would help more than just saying "maybe".
I probably sound more snarky than I want to. Really, this is a plea to the powers-that-be at Paizo. Please let us be prepared for this Con. We are representing your product at GenCon. If we are ill-prepared, rushed, etc. it will show. I've experienced this as a player at Cons. I'd hate to experience it as a DM. More importantly, I would really hate for it to be a player's first impression of Pathfinder and/or Paizo.
Thanks for your consideration,
Stratton aka Reckless

I can't get into specifics. I'd love for it to be next week. I can't guarantee it'll be next week, because I don't make the decisions. Sorry that's the best I can do. :-/
As a matter of fact, it's best to assume that I'll never offer specifics unless (a) the decision is fully within my control and (b) I know for certain that what I'm promising will happen. I'm not going to burn myself or Paizo with false promises.

Fair enough.
So, I guess my plea needs to be forwarded to those who are making the decisions. So, please, "powers-that-be", make it next week, because we really need enough time to get through the rules and it won't be the only thing going on in our lives during whatever time we have the rules.
Thanks

So Do I. But the schedule is already set, and for Josh to change it, everyones schedule would have to change...
Oh well... :-(

Add another voice to the "please give us enough time to prepare properly" chorus. The sooner I have the rules, the more I can study them, and hopefully push out the 3.5 and 4E cobwebs.
I'm a little surprised by how close to the chest Paizo is playing this. In a few weeks time, everyone is going to have the rules anyway. Even if someone did break the NDA (only to very likely be caught), I don't see any real downside for Paizo. An (inferior) digital copy becomes available a few weeks early. Anyone remotely interested is still going to shell out the $9.99 for a superior copy, or download the inevitable (superior) pirated version of the real thing. Hell, if there were a leak, it would just get people talking. What, exactly, are they afraid of?
No offense to Lisa & Co., but I think they've gotten a little carried away on the secrecy front.

![]() |

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think they are making things difficult. They want to make sure they get everything right for the launch of their game.
Sure, there's a lot of support for it here on the boards, but it's still a HUGE risk to launch ANY new product in this economy and I don't blame them for wanting to make sure everything goes as planned.

Joshua J. Frost |

This has nothing to do with secrecy. It has to do with the technical difficulties of distribution. We'll get this to you as soon as we're capable. The show starts in a month. People will have the rules in a month. My GMs will have the rules earlier than that so that they can prepare. I'm not going to shaft my GMs.

Ahhh...is it the digital NDAs, then? That would make sense.
I don't suppose you'll just take our word? What if we make puppy-dog eyes? ;-)

I can imagine the logistics of getting a possibly 200MB PDF ready for download, *and* reduced in resolution (though that may drop the size a bit), could take quite a bit of time. :)
I've got Scenario #23: Tide of Morning on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon.
Enjoy Matt! I loved running that scenario at PaizoCon!

Mind answering any questions that may come up when I get the scenario?

I have to say that I'm not that worried. Perhaps DMs that are running the same adventure should have a dialog running to discuss the issues and confusions. Having another DM to bounce off ideas might be very valuable.
DMs as a whole are creative if not inventive lot. I'm sure there has to be a way for us to get the job done better than ever before.

I can always set up a Private Forum section for GenCon GMs on the forum section on my Society Support Site.

No worries, McCaul - most gamers are pretty cool...at least as I remember; it's been 11 years since I last attended Gen Con. Still, most are there to have fun - yeah, a few are there to show off and celebrate their freedom from their parents' basement, but for the most part, they are fine. All of us at the table have paid money to be there, so if someone gets all fired up at the DM, then I'm gonna ask them to chill out and if they persist, then I'm gonna introduce my foot to their ass. :)
On the issue of time, I'm not DMing any games, but I'd be frantic right about now if I didn't have my materials for Gen Con - it's less than a month away. Do you DM's even have a copy of the game(s) you're running?

No, We are expecting and hoping next week for the rules, August 1st for the scenarios.
