"One of those damned mercs, I guess," Feona shrugs, sighing loudly. "I sure am glad to be out of there."

Then she looks up at Nils with all seriousness and says, "You know, what's to stop us from heading out and going where we want to? Say to hell with this hole and keep going never to return?"
She shrugs again. "I'm just saying..."

"Personally if it was just that dagger, I'd even consider it. But I not only want to make sure those mercenaries pay for what they did, if that friend of the doctor is for real however they would be a good contact and failing that these items he wants us to find might actually be worth taking a good look at before we decide whether to actually bother going back at all,"Nils whispers back.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

Feona grins and links her arm with his, "I like the way you think, Nils. Let's get on with this then! The sooner we are done, the better."

Feona is ready to roll whenever the rest of the group is ready.

"He probably upended a candle on top of it himself jumping to get away from the hurlyburly and sought to blame someone else for his foppish clumsiness." muses Burrloft. "I'm ready as well. Let us leave this dreary little snare of ineptitude."

"You know that druid he was talking about might be able to teach you what you want to know after all somebody had to have trained that fool back there," Nils mentions to Burrloft.

Male Gnome Wizard (Transmuter) Level 1

Burrloft shrugs "Well, I think that his shrouding would be interesting to learn and could be quite artistic and have some historical merrit. I really would like to learn the process, but I mostly just wanted to wipe that smug, supersillious look off of his pompus face."

"Yes I couldn't help wondering why they chose the tactic they did, I mean surely they understand whats to make us go back if we have no real reason to do so?" Nils agrees.

From Nils's point of view if he did go back it would probably only be to kill the sheriff and if really aggravated to burn the rest of the good doctor's collection in front of him but that might be a little too chaotic an outlook!

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric 1

Marissa looks wistfully down at her muddy boots and travel stained cloak. It would have been nice to take a bath and sleep in a real bed, but this was too interesting to pass up. She refills her waterskin and surreptitiously swipes several small bits of food to store in her sack. Tossing the sack over her shoulder she falls into line with the others. So where do we begin? I'm not very familiar with the land around here.

OOC: I've been without internet all week sadly. I finally found a spot with wireless. I'll be back to posting regularly on Monday.

"Good question, I figure we go explore and I'll try and track down where our nefarious rivals have gone so we have a better idea of where to look or not look depending on what they've run into out here since that hobgoblin is hardly the only one around here,"Nils nods back.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

"Does anyone know exactly how to get to this Willowroot fellow's place? Krane said something about living in a forest. Did he mention which one?"

Feona Farstrider wrote:

Which skill would be appropriate to find this Willowroot's home?

"Well I suspect the good doctor wouldn't have been so interested in Willowroot if he wasn't living near enough for us to locate and return so he can recreate his forgotten masterpiece, so its this forest and its more a matter of figuring out where a druid would live, anyone know anything about this place?" Nils replies wrily wondering what the Black Banner would be seeking out first.

The map up there shows the locations where the items are at, and you can make a survival check to find your way there.

Survival check, Roll 1d20+9:4+9 for Total of 13

Nils has serious problems tracking in the forest especially as he's a desert ranger...
"I'd say check out any stone circles in the area, but I'm not an expert on this area," Nils shrugs.

Nils:

Spoiler:
With the map, it should make the trail fairly easy to follow, but it will take quite a while.

While his ability to track in the forest is minimal, Nils is able to lead the group through the forest with the help of the map, though he tends to lead the group through the long ways.

While Nils is following the trail, a trap suddenly springs. A rope is caught around his ankle, and Nils is hoisted into the air next to a large tree.

Nils takes 1d3=2 of nonlethal damage.

"Wonderful start to the day!" Nils mutters in disgust as he slowly and surely frees himself from the trap hawling himself upright so he can cut the rope and then drop back to the ground trying to avoid hurting himself any further.

"Watch yourselves there's bound to be more, maybe even whoever laid these," Nils adds.

If you want to free yourself from the trap, you'll need an escape artist check please. Or, you could have retrieved your weapon and spent a standard action to cut yourself free.

Escape Artist: Rolled a 9+3 for a total of 12

Nils tries to free himself albeit clumsily and probably painful to watch too!

Nils tries unsuccessfully to free himself from the trap. The others can attempt to cut him down.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

"We don't have time for this!" Feona growls, looking around for the source of the trap.

Once she finds it, she attempts to cut Nils down.
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2092847/

Looking around, Feona is easily able to find the snare trap against the tree that Nils is tied up again.

Feona

Spoiler:
Also tied to the tree, Feona is able to spot the carcass of a rabbit. Also, lying carelessly in a bush near the trail, a scroll is hidden.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

To Onyx:

Spoiler:
Is the rabbit fresh? Feona takes the scroll and opens it. Can she read it? And then she cuts down Nils. If she can't read the scroll, she shows it to Nils first and then to Burrloft.

Feona

Spoiler:
The rabbit is very fresh. And if Feona can read magic, then she can read the scroll.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

"Hey guys, come here!" Feona whispers urgently, stepping back onto the trail to wave her companions over. "Take a look at this! We got a fresh rabbit and some type of scroll. Nafti, can you read this?" she asks, handing Nafti the scroll.
"I'm gonna cut Nils down, but I need some help holding the rope so he don't break his neck when he hits the ground."

As the others work to help her, Feona attempts to disable the snare trap (see my roll above). If she is unsuccessful, she just cuts the rope.

Male Gnome Wizard (Transmuter) Level 1

Burrloft is not terribly strong, but will try to aid Feona in getting Nils down. Together we might weigh as much as 1/3 of a human!

"When they said too much pride will take a fall, I didn't know they meant upwards!"Nils groans.

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric 1

Marissa moves over to add her weight to the rope, though suspecting even the three of them might not be able to hold up the muscular man. She grabs one end and tries to brace against a nearby tree.

Sorry I missed a couple days.

With the aid, everyone is able to get Nils down fairly quickly. While Nils is lying on the ground, and Feona is trying to get someone to look at the scroll, a low growl is heard from one of the bushes near where Nils and the rabbit corpse. Out from behind the bush, a furry snout pops out, and the muzzle of a wolf can be seen. Hunger is displayed clearly in its eyes, and it lets out another growl, snarling at the group.

Initiative please.

The map of the encounter.

Init: Wolf 5

Female Halfling Rogue/1

Initiative 1d20+3=16

Male Half Elf Ranger 1st

Initiative: 1d20+3:4+3 for Total of 7 and Nils action in the first round is to pick up and throw the rabbits' carcase at the wolf thinking it would grab that and run rather than fight a group of heavily armed adventurers' well that was the idea anyway!

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric 1

With a startled gasp, Marissa looks up at the ferocious wolf emerging from the underbrush. Its lanky form looks hungry and menacing to her. She moves her hands slowly to her belt to draw a foot-long leather sack that clinks with the sound of many small metal balls inside. The sap wasn't the ideal weapon for such a creature, but with luck she might be able to drive it away. Easy boy, we're too much trouble for just one of you.

OOC: Marissa Initiative (1d20+1=11)
Going to ready an action, if the wolf attacks Marissa with move to attack it as well (and miss!).

Male Gnome Wizard (Transmuter) Level 1

Initiative: 1d20+1: 14+1= 15

Feona: 16
Burrloft: 15
Marissa: 11
Nils: 7
Wolf: 5

Is Nafti still with us?

Female Halfling Rogue/1

If Feona CUT Nils down she would still have her dagger in hand, thus her actions would be...
Feona slashes the air with her dagger, all the while yelling at the wolf to leave. "GO AWAY! GET OUT OF HERE!"

If Feona simply disarmed the snare trap, then her actions are...
Feona stays where she is, talking soothingly to the wolf...as she takes her sling from her belt and loads it with a bullet to use next round.

The wolf snarls angrily, not looking to move, the scent of the rabbit seems to have driven its bloodlust.

Burrloft is up.

Male Gnome Wizard (Transmuter) Level 1

Burrloft shoves his sleeve up and, with a rattle of bracelets, makes a punching motion. Pushing a telekinetic fist out with his mind he strikes at the wolf hopeing the disembodied attack will alarm it enough to drive it away.

Ranged Touch Attack: 13 +1(DEX)=14 vs wolf's touch AC
If damage is applicable: 2hp

The wolf lets out a yelp as the fist strikes it solidly, but it does not look like it will be running away.

Marissa is now up.

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric 1

OOC: Marissa was going to ready an action until the wolf attacked, if it attacks she missed anyway.

Ah, you're right. I'm sorry, I looked at it yesterday then forgot about it this morning.

The wolf continues to snarl, lowering down out of the way of the attack.

Nils is up, and is currently prone on the ground.

Already posted Nils was going to throw the rabbit's carcass to the wolf thinking that would resolve the situation

Carefully Nils reaches for and then throws the rabbits' carcass to the wolf taking care that it doesn't land anywhere near any of his comrades.

Do I need to make a check for that? If its wild empathy thats a 1d20+1 for a total of 13 although that takes a full minute to use and all Nils is doing is throwing the wolf its meal so it runs off without continuing this fight

The wolf chomps at the thrown rabbit, the loud crunch of breaking bones can be heard clearly. The wolf stops for a moment, enjoying the taste of the meat. It shakes its head side to side, then dropping the rabbit, looking not satisfied with it. It then turns its attention towards Nils, moving forward to lunge at what it seems to think is good prey.

1d20+3=4, 1d6+1=4

The wolf, still maddened by its bloodlust, misses horrible.

Feona is up.

Feona is up.

"Bad, bad, bad dog!" Nils berates the wolf severely.

Female Halfling Rogue/1

Whirling her sling beside her head, she hurls the bullet at the wolf, hoping to knock it senseless.
1d20+4,1d4=[14, 4], [4]

The bullet arcs wildly, and misses the wolf, slamming into the tree next to week, taking out a chunk of bark. The wolf pays no attention to Nils words.

Burrloft is up.

Augh, I'm sorry, I read the roll wrong and thought you had rolled a 14, not a 14 plus 4, so give me a moment and I will put up a new post because you did hit.

The wolf is hit by the bullet, and it lets out a loud yelp and cowers down a bit, but does not look like it plans on running off.

Burrloft is up.

Male Gnome Wizard (Transmuter) Level 1

Sorry, very eventful weekend and I forgot to check in here

Burrloft is surprised that the beast didn't take the rabbit carcass and run and tries to summon force for another telekinetic fist. His distraction is apparent, however, and the fist is far to the side of the wolf.

Attack: 5+1= 6

Female Halfling Rogue/1

Anybody out there?

Male Half Elf Ranger 1st

Nils tries to defends himself with his kukri and try to roll to his feet before the wolf rushes him.

Wasn't sure if Marissa had gone yet but post this just in case I missed it

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric 1

Marissa moves to Nils side and swings her weapon at the beast. The swift moving animal is quite difficult to hit however.

OOC: She had readied an action in case the wolf moved, so her initiative is now just after Nils and before the wolf. Marissa Sap (1d20+2=12, 1d6+2=5)

Marissa misses with her attack, the wolf able to dodge out of the way with ease. Nils is able to get to his feet, but when he does, the wolf takes a snap at his legs, but misses horribly.

1d20+3=4, 1d6+1=6

Goodness I just cannot roll at all lately. Is standing up and drawing your weapon your full action Nils?
