OK so, Possibilities for me,
6th Level Psionic Duergar mindblade (6HD)
3rd level Grimlock Barbarian (5HD)
5th level wererat goblin rogue. (afflicted) (1hd base creature replace by class level, add wererat afflicted (+2 LA) (5HD)
5th level Fiendish Kobold Sorcerer. (5HD)
I think I'm leaning toward the wererat tho...

Anything with a level adjustment of +1 to +6 is allowed - however the DMG has mind flayers as +7. I dont know how that link came to the conclusion that a +1 would be suitable - I suspect it's an oversight. I'm going to use the level adjustment in the DMG or any monster manual (1-5). Providing it has a level adjustment listed of +1 to +6 you can play it.

I wanted to swap trap sense for poison use.

That's one of those "Savage species conversions" for the Mind Flayer, I wouldn't allow it either...
Wait, Level adjustment up to +6 or ECL=7 (since hit dice add to the LA to equal ECL) There are some brutal LA+6 creatures that have lots of HD also...which would be really powerful...

Swapping the feat is fine.
You're right about ECL - my apologies for sloppiness. I meant ECL = 7, however with a caveat that the level adjustment has to be at least +1 and there must be at least one class level.

No worries - it is something of an experiment, obviously. Not for everyone. I'll re-advertise for a fourth, although maybe three would be enough - the concept doesnt really require a balanced group...

Provided they fit the criteria, any of those is fine - I'm not so sure that an ethereal dragon is going to make it (where is it from?) but if it does I'll *nervous swallow* allow it.
With regard to a wizard class - remember you're beginning as an escaped prisoner. That means no equipment and in particular it means no spell books. There will be opportunity to rectify that, but you wont get the same free reign to choose what spells you have access to.

Yeah, that's fine. The Ethereal Dragon comes from the Draconomicon, and is ECL +6. Giving barely enough room. I think it'll be fun to roleplay a wyrmling, since while it is intelligent it would have the maturity of a 5-year old. If this doesn't work, maybe I'll play the Krenshar.

That ghost sounds pretty cool Shisumo!
One of the things I really like about the ghost concept is that she has some healing capacity - but only if she actually possesses another member of the party! In and of herself, she can't touch anyone to cast the spell... I thought that might make for some interesting interactions.

OK - in the spirit of experimentation and trying not to say no too much, I'm happy for you to play the ghost. I havent yet got my head around exactly why you are with the party (and why you'll stay).
With regard to ethereal travel/access - I suspect there may be some planar hanky-panky that Halaster has put in place which will curtail you somewhat, though not too much (Halaster is the mad wizard who built undermountain for those unfamiliar with the realms). I think ethereal travel is going to work fine within any given level (most of the time, anyhow) but that there are ethereal barriers between levels and in order to reach the deeper areas, you'll need to find a passage down. Given the goal of the campaign is to travel deep into undermountain in search of Shadowport - going ethereal and sinking through the floor is going to be an anticlimactic solution, dont you think?

Editing to reply to your post (yay ninja!): no problem with any of that. Moreover, I'd stipulate that she is tied to her bones in a pretty strong fashion, so that she can't go more than, say, 100-200 ft from them. So just heading down isn't an option in the first place, nor is a quiet ethereal recon of each level. A few rooms ahead, maybe, but nothing more. Does that work?

Cheers - sounds like a plan. With regard to breaking the game - we now have a wererat goblin, a githyanki psion, a ghost, an ethereal dragon wyrmling and (probably) a hobgoblin fighter. All running through a monster dungeon pursued by goody-goody adventurers and irate guards, with no recourse to retreat and beginning with no equipment or other resources, in a PBP format...
This is pretty obviously highly experimental - if it breaks I think I can take full responibility. ;)

I probably won't get a chance to begin the game thread until Friday or Saturday. Essentially, you will begin on three-quarter hit points, currently well fed although with no equipment or belongings. Your current plan is to make it down through undermountain to reach the 'safety' of skullport - beyond that is entirely up to you.
