My game might be glitching. Need some help with the dwarven carta quest -

Spoiler:
Need the finger bone! I've gone to the slum house, no bad guys show up. Went to the shop in the Commons and chased off some bad guys, no finger bone. Tried it again, killing them, and no finger bone! Help!!!!!

Thanks!

Thanks, and to PolloLoco too. It sounds kind of like what I was looking for as well. I am pretty interested in the world, but much like you, I don't really want to read the codex entries in game. Plus, it might be worthwhile to help discover some of the spell combinations.

Thanks!

As I recall, speaking to the beggar lady in the middle of the street about ol' J lady might trigger the slum house being populated with thugs. That's where I finally got the token to use.

Love the game so far but I tend to run into very hard battles ever so often that takes multiple saves to get through.

Spoiler:
I am currently stuck in the boss fight in the Dalish elf mission. I don't think I can beat it. Have tried about a dozen times so far. It's a great game but battles like this make me stop playing for a while.

Have you tried a Big dragon?! They make Revenants look like little schoolboys! Geesh! I gave up. Talk about epic! Well done, but frustrating.

Played last nite and bamm! There they were. Probably just needed to turn the box off for a while.

Spoiler:
I don't know who you sided with for the mission, but when I did it, I ended up fighting the Dalish elder and his summoned minions. I pretty much ignored all of the minions and just gunned straight for the elder and as soon as he goes down, the fight is done.

And I killed the Urn of the Ashes Dragon!

Congrats Dragnmoon! Thats a pretty tough accomplishment.

Sovereign Court

Nice one Dragnmoon. That's one of the toughest fights in the game, so well done. Enjoy the finishing move?

I've recently been going through each Origin story, just to get a feel for them. The City Elf one is awesome fun, good to see a roaring rampage of revenge slip into the story, and actually causing King Cailen to be lost for words for a moment after you explain just what you've been up to in the Alienage is quite funny. Not quite sure which one of the origins I'll take forward as my next playthrough though, probably a human mage type, purely as it'll mean I can lead from the rear, rather then the front.

There was no Finishing Move, :-(

Spoiler:
The Dragon was killed by a Ranged spell, But I did get the finishing move against Flemeth the Shapeshifter

What surprises me is that I got level 20 with only getting through only 42% of the game so far.

Sovereign Court

Is that 42% completion or 42% of the world explored? I jumped around 20% after the Landsmeet in terms of world explored, which was rather odd, but there you go. That whole part of DA seems a little dodgy.

42% completion, 70+% explored. I am thinking that 42% completion may include the other origin stories and may be the reason it is so low.

Sovereign Court

Same here. I also think it takes into account which choices you made during the game. Still kinda confusing though.

I skipped over most of this thread as to avoid any spoilers so I apologize if this was already asked.

I have an xbox 360..... is the Collector's Edition worth the extra fifteen bucks?

I know it supposed to come with a fancy map and I believe an extra disc. Do the extra contents justify the cost and having to wait for the game? I can go to wal mart and get the regular. I have to order the collectors edition online.

Thanks.

Sovereign Court

I'd say no. Unless you're a big Bioware fan and love the world they build. In which case, it's a good purchase. I know I want to get it at some point.

Paizo Employee Creative Director

I bought the collector's edition because I'm a Bioware fan boy.

Also, because I like to vote with my wallet. If I have a delicious meal, I'll leave a 25% tip. If a company constantly earns my respect and admiration, I don't see a difference between that and effectively giving Bioware a 25% tip by buying the collector's edition.

Also, the metal case it comes in is pleasing to the senses.

When I finished the game, I had something like a 92% explored rating, and that was with only one playthrough. I expect the remaining 8% was a combination of rare random encounters and the other origin stories.

Sovereign Court

I finished it with around 95% explored. I believe the rest is made up of a certain quest line.

Spoiler:
If you go to the Gnawed Noble Tavern and start the 'Favours for Certain Interested Parties', you can eventually get to go to one of the thieves hideouts, if you do all the missions for them. That makes up the rest, if you've done every other possible sidequest.

The only other thing that often gets missed is the Orzammar Chantry.

Uzzy wrote:

Especially when you max out your lock picking skills, and you still keep running into locked items you can't open at that level, and you can't remember where the chests were when you get another point in the skill . . . ah well.

That actually makes sense. My character had lockpicking skill, but I suspect there were mage and warrior quests she couldn't access.

Just finished this tonight. 90+ hours, a rockin' good time. I'm going to take a break before trying it again w/ a different character (played an elven mage). An excellent, memorable game. I cannot wait for the next game in this series (that's just an educated guess), to learn more about other parts of this world.

A few fights I found almost undoable, though. Not sure if this was based on poor tactics, companion choices, or main character's strengths.

Spoiler:
The Anvil of the Void, regardless of whether I backed Branka or Caridin, was the most frustrating fight in the game. Well, 2nd to the finale. Also, in the Orzammar story arc, backing Harrowmount and fighting those 4 guys in an arena combat...w/ only your main character and 2 dwarven NPC allies. And last but not least, fighting Gaxkang in that small, cramped hut. I died so many times in these 3 areas...

Alistair, Morrigan & Leliana were my usual companions for most of the game. I tried to be both healer and offensive mage. Needless to say, Shrieks were not my best friend...

I hope I'm not out of line for listing this here, but it's a good article, and it relates as it's about Dragon Age improving their table top game.

I haven't got to pick this up so far, but I can't wait to play it. Bioware has yet to disappoint me with my purchases, much like paizo. :D

Just as a side note, there is a new patch up that fixes a few real nice issues so you might want to take a look. I know my gf was complaining because she couldn't get to do Leilana's sidequest even though her approval was at 100 just because she hadn't said certain things early on. Patch fixes things like that.

That's an amazing game. I really enjoy the tone of it. I'm all about dark fantasy.

I've completed the game with the dwarf noble origin. I had a blast.

Any suggestion on my second origin to playthrough?

Scarab Sages

I'm playing the Human Noble the first time, and it has made the story progression very rewarding, and after my GF played as a Mage and ranted about how well-done the Mage background is, I'm doing that next. I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to the end, and my GF is already on her second playthrough.

We've even been using the game to keep our minds on the weekly tabletop RPGs by playing, as our characters, PCs and NPCs from the PFRPG/3.5 games we're each running, and making appropriate decisions.

Thus far, this is the *only* CRPG wherein I can be a sane lawful evil type of alignment. Even Bioware's previous masterpieces, right up until Mass Effect, disappointed me with the Paladin/Serial Killer binary choices.

I'm glad I can play a fantasy game where I don't have to drink blood and worship Cthulhu to avoid being a saint.

Human or Elf Mage. They are a blast (no pun intended).

I am actually a little jealous people have beaten this game. I got it on the day it came out and have very little time to play it since. :(

Erhm it might be a bit outta topic as from what I gather everybody's discussing the PC game ; But any news on the pen and paper version of it?

I read that Green Ronin is making it(unless that was a joke...and what a poor one if indeed it is I might add)

Liberty's Edge

I believe what you are looking for is here. It is still coming out and sounds interesting to me, sort of a more basic and rules light system set in the cool world they have built.

Their original listing said it was scheduled for a fall release however, so right now I am not sure just when it is going to be out. However with a huge number of the paizo staff really into the game, I suspect that green ronin's release will get a note on the store blog when it does come out.

Eh, don't worry, I've been playing for hours on end, but not on consecutive days, between work, holidays, and prepping for my Star Wars Saga game and Pathfinder campaign, and I got it on November 11th.

According to their website and forums, the PDF will be released tomorrow (December 9) with the physical copy sent to the printers. So I figure a week or three and the box set is on the shelf.

If you've finished the game, what was your total time played?

Sovereign Court

42 hours+ for me, but that's no doubt going to go up when I return to my pre-Landsmeet save and work on the DLC and other side quests I missed. That's as well as doing all the origin stories! The joys of student life do come to the fore here, given that I've clocked up 22 hours on Mass Effect as well recently. :D

My first playthrough was 45 hours, give or take a minute or two.

Are most of you discussing the PC version or one of the console versions? And if you have played both, can anyone offer any comparisons?

Few things..

PC Vs Xbox Vs PS3 on Graphics PC is the best, then PS3 then Xbox 360 for this game.

You can see the differences here

You can also see the UI difference also on the link above, IMO the PC version is much better with the Ribbon UI on the bottom vs the Button UI on the console, much easier to use what you want when you want instead of switching which button does what.

The story is exactly the same for all versions.

Liberty's Edge

Finally beaten. Level 19, 45 hours or so.

*MAJOR SPOILERS*

Spoiler:

I was quite bugged to build up Morrigan so well and have her leave just before the final fight if I refused to make a choice against my character's personality. So I went against my nature to keep her for the final fight. She was too vital.

The fight against the archdemon wasn't as hard as I was expecting. I had a rougher time with the Broodmother (in hindsight, this was likely because I allowed myself to run low on mana potions, which I didn't craft a pile of until afterwards).

Then again, I called the mage army into action just as the fight with the archdemon began. They were mostly very effective except for all the fireballs going off too close to me. Sadly, due to the ease of it, I found the final battle underwhelming.

I may play through again with a mage that both nukes and heals. I barely used any of Wynne's abilities outside of healing and reviving (although petrification, earthquake, and stonefist at times came in quite handy). I should also build up herbalism. Maybe then I can take two tanks and a rogue with me through the whole game and unlock all those dang chests.

Played the 360 version, and b/c I'm obsessive about doing as much as possible (the strategy guide helps), I got in a little over 90 hours. Only played through 1 origin story (elf mage). I think I was 21st level w/ my main character, everyone else 20th level.

I just had the Broodmother under 25%, killed most of the last "swarm" of shrieks and tentacles with only Wynn down, just switched back to bows for everyone . . .

and the program crashed.

I'm going to go cry quietly to myself for a little bit.

Sovereign Court

I found Hespith and the Broodmother the creepiest thing ever. *shudder* Has Nick Logue been writing for Bioware, or something?

Yes, I have to admit that broodmother bit was dark as hell and the voice leading you onwards was dripping creepiness. I also liked the demon in the orphanage of the Elven alienage. There's some pretty creative storytelling; my favourite is the closing of the quest of the Dalish Elves and the werewolves.

Just saw a poll on Bioware and 49% of the vote were for Morrigan in the most interesting character of your allies. No surprise there.

Sovereign Court

Morrigan does have the Most Common Superpower, after all. I prefered Leliana myself, but I actually thought that Morrigan had quite an interesting relationship with female PC's, especially the little chat at the end, before the final fight. That was sweet.

Spoiler:
I mean the final chat with all the party, just before you charge into Denerim. Morrigan looked all blustered and admitted that she was glad she actually had a friend, the PC. It was rather sweet (and as by then, I had turned her into an arcane warrior, I wasn't.. ahem, distracted by anything, given her newfound massive plate armour)

Sovereign Court

Also, am I the only one not to have seen this map of Thedas yet, or is that the one you get with the Collectors Edition?

Liberty's Edge

You may be, Uzzy, I have it as a wallpaper on the PC I game on.

Liberty's Edge

I've just gone through it for my third run-through now. I've done a Human Rogue/Ranger/Duelist (good guy), a Dalish Elf Wizard/Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer (nice enough guy), and a Dwarven Commoner Warrior/Reaver/Berzerker (a very bad man), I've explored all of the party member's backgrounds, gotten most of the achievements, and (though it pains me to say it) pursued every romance. I only have a few complaints about the game as a whole:

As I'd mentioned previously, the difficulty is stonking ridiculous. I can appreciate a challenge, but this game has what I like to call 'malicious DM syndrome' and its a bad case, there are so many unavoidable "OH SHI-" moments that are more battles of attrition than actual combat scenarios, and the sidequests are STUPID - who remembers "The Last Request" - that 'Hunt the Blood Mages' quest in Denerim? Yeah, the oil slick next to the fire trap, with the warhounds (plus respawns, after you kill the first three), and the three archers & a blood mage behind some crates that you can't target while in combat? Followed by a room with two mages, three oil slicks, and at least seven archers behind more crates? I rest my case.

Actively using the save function is so necessary it isn't funny, and depending on auto-saves to restore you to a safe place is a surefire way to find yourself time traveling one hour into the past before yelling "DAMN THIS GAME!" and throwing your controller/keyboard into a wood chipper. This game makes Baldur's Gate II's time lapses looks like a short jaunt through the garden of joy.

I'm never going to allow a little borrowing from one setting or another here or there ruin my fun, but these guys took so many pages from Warhammer: One-true-wayism human religion, heavy-as-hell xenophobia, magic = a terribly corrupting force that is controlled with an iron hand, a suicidal pack of dwarf berzerkers who want to go out swinging? I sincerely wondered where all of the Chantry's bald, two-handed hammer wielding Warrior/Champion/Templar priest-types were. That's my next character by the by, his name is Sigmar, and he'll either be a saint, or a very, very bad man, depending on your views on religion.

The main character does not speak. They've been working on this game forever, and the main character does not speak; I'd been spoiled by Mass Effect and the fact that Shepard spoke. Its a small thing, really, but I felt that they could've spared us the small selection of one-liners and given us one generic universal voice (Shepard sounds the same no matter his/her background, skin color, or amount of facal hair/scars). Every other major/minor character in this game speaks! Everyone! Why not the warden?

Others have mentioned it, but the game has a tendency to screw up on you at times, voices fading/disappearing, one side of your speakers fading in/out, and outright gameplay freezes mid-battle, all of which can be agitating.

Regardless of my qualms, I still loved it, and though I'll be screaming my way through this next playthrough, being a hammer-happy Warrior Priest of Sigmar - certainly a sort of snarky bit of smartassery on my part - I'm truly happy with my purchase, have thoroughly enjoyed this game, and look forward to all of the DLC that's been hinted at in the near future.

I have a few hints that may help all those struggling with the battles. Area effect spells like Tempest, Inferno and Blizzard can be cast(using a computer)without being in the line of site of the enemy. Just use the roll out top down view, move the camera to the desired position, target your area and away you go. You can even wipe out whole enemies through doors, walls without even seeing them. Call it cheap but effective. Hope it helps some of you guys with the tougher battles.

I don't know if you guys know the forcefield aggro trick yet...

Get Crushing Prison....

Get survival skill to see how many enemies are on the map so you don't go waltzing into a swarm.
