Male Human Cleric 2

Perception 1d20 ⇒ 6

Nombir continues to move forward towards the nearest visible Gnoll

Female Halfling Rogue 3

Norn continues on her way towards the Gnolls

stealth

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2

Not wanting to be left by himself, Zaid starts sneaking too, trying to follow Livvy.

Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

The Exchange

Livvy, I owe you one. Seems like you guys need a map or I need to do better descriptions, sorry for the confusion.

There is one gnoll visible to Nombir, it is in the rocks about one hundred feet away from him. It is the secdon archer that just shot Livvy.

Zaid can cross the first hundred feet of open scrubland in one run to the cactus where Erizi and Nombir are but there is very little cover. Livvy can make it the last twenty feet into the rocks too.

Zaid, Livvy, Erizi and Shimei can all see a second gnoll at the edge of the covering rocks, directly before Shimei.

One further gnoll has been nailed by Shimei, that leaves one more somewhere in cover, hidden. Feel free to edit your actions if you want for this turn.

FW, no worries. I did not ask enough questions. She's not exactly someone that has any business in a frontal assault, anyway. Maybe she will learn something from this.

Livvy's hurting. She will hustle to the rocks and make herself as small as possible while watching for threats.

Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

The Exchange

I kind of used Livvy's stealth roll as indicative of the way she used what little cover there is. Zaid has obviously studied the ground a lot better.

Livvy hides behind the large cactus beside Erizi and Nombir.

Zaid hops from bush to bush like a ranger of the wilds. Norn meanwhile is invisible to the party. Somewhere off to the right of the monastery.

I'll wait for Erizi and Shimei their actions for this round now.

LOL

To herself, quietly, "I was never good and 'Find Me!', the others always found me so fast -- I can tell I should have practiced more -- who knew it would matter? -- but look at Norn! Or I would, if I could figure out where she's gone. I'll bet she was great at 'Find Me!' -- oh, this hurts. Am I dying?"

I just have to figure out that trick of hiding that Uncle Feldus would always use to sneak up on us. One minute he's there, the next minute he's gone! Crazy old man, anyway...

Having established a clear firing lane, Shimei begins to move parallel to Erizi toward the gnolls. He draws and nocks an arrow waiting for a good target.

shoot at any goblin without cover. I'd like to get the other bowman, but I'll take any gnoll if its a clean shot.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22; 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 (does not include range modifiers; includes gnoll hate)

Erizi bellows and heads towards the Gnoll with the Throwing axe. (Without a map, not sure if there is any cover, but oh well. Sometimes you just have to go. If I can reach him and attack I will. If not I'll move till I'm withing melee range.

The Exchange

Not enough cover for an ogre anyway.

The gnoll visibly shrinks as the towering Erizi approaches down the line of the rocks. An arrow hits the hyenaman square in the shoulder too, courtesy of Shimei.

However he does have enough presence of mind to still throw the axe at him.

Throwing axe 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, possible damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 The axe hits but only grazes the pitfighter before he gets to try out Tempest for the first time.

Erizi blinks slightly as the thrown axe glances off his armor, then swings Tempest with all his might at the offending critter.

Tempest Attack (1d20+8=28)

Critical Confirm (1d20+8=22)

Ummmm. Ouch?

Tempest Damage (9d6+27=60) back,back,back,back....It's out of here. Wow! I'm just grinning sitting at my desk that my first level character just dit that.

Oh wait. I forgot the +3 for the killer trait. That will be 63 points of damage.

Male Human Cleric 2

"Erizi wait.. ohh". Nombir sees Erizi move off and prepares to go and help him, but first looks at Livvy and says "Abbadar help her" and holds out his hand.

Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The gnoll staggers and then falls dead.

EDIT: About two hundred feet away down in the valley that is.

Erizi the Landless wrote:

Livvy looks up at Nombir, "Thank you, that's much better. Wait -- did you just hear a big 'splatting' sound?"

And i thought splatting the first pug was impressive.

The Exchange

Erizi

Spoiler:
Back to earth. Don't forget to deduct the damage from the axe, your AC is now 14, thanks to the lack of a shield and being enlarged means -2 Dex and size Large, i.e. -2 AC.

Done. Just realized my HP were wrong on the profile anyway, and adjusted them. BTW Erizi isn't using a shield AC comer from Armor +3, DEX +3, and Dodge +1, so AC is currently 15, which misses.

Male Human Cleric 2

"You're welcome Livvy". Nombir looks up at the splatting sound and sees Erizi enjoying himself! "I'd better help Erizi, although I don't think he needs it!". Nombir turns to move off to the fighting.

The Exchange

Okay I'll try to write a clearer description. Ask if anything I write now is confusing.

Zaid and Livvy stand at a large cactus which sits on the edge of the rockline across the open ground roughly in the middle when looking from the ruined monastery towards the valley and Kelmarane.

To the left is Shimei, about sixty feet from the ruins and forty feet from the rocks and cover.

Erizi is almost directly in front of Shimei on the edge of those rocks, with a very gory earthbreaker. Nombir has healed Livvy and then moved along the edge to Erizi.

Another hundred further them in the alleys, drops and folds of rocks and ground is a single gnoll with a bow. He takes a pot shot at Erizi and then turns, heading away and out of sight. Erizi takes 4pts of damage as the arrow catches him.

Norn went right and no one else can see him in the more cluttered terrain.

Norn Perception check DC13

Spoiler:
Norn hears something crunching and creeping through the rocks just out of sight ahead of him. The last footfall was heavy like that of a man and a little careful.

Shouldn't there be one more non-bow-armed gnoll visible? Pretty sure Shimei made his perception checks to see them all.

Norn quietly moves towards the rocks in front of her to get a look

Stealth

Shimei will pursue the gnoll bowman, avoiding the ax-armed gnoll.

I'd like to get within 100' to close range, but stay out of melee. I imagine it will take at a double move this round. Let me know if I can fire.

Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2

Zaid pokes hid head above the cactus and looks for more gnolls.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Male Human Cleric 2

When Nombir gets close enough to Erizi he says "which one do you want next?". Nombir readies his great sword for a charge at an available target!

The Exchange

Shimei of Merraketh wrote:

That gnoll is invisible to most of you. I'll describe him if he can be seen. Maybe he has gone? The only gnoll that you guys have seen this round is the bow-armed one who has shot Erizi and then disappeared into cover.

Shimei can double move close to the rockline, however without running he cannot reach any cover.

Erizi and Nombir both know roughly where the archer went to ground but it is in among the bad stuff, about hundred foot away.

Zaid cannot see any gnolls at all. Its like a maze of rocks ahead.

Norn

Spoiler:
Norn will see the shadow of a large hyenaman slip past his hiding place, without noticing her. His back nice and inviting. The gnoll has a rotten-looking axe with three strings of scalps dangling in one hand.

French Wolf wrote:

Okay, okay, this round Shimei moves but no gnoll appears.

The Exchange

Norn's bolt hits the gnoll square in the back and it squeals out loud, loud enough for everyone to hear.

The beast drops its axe in agony and tries to run, staggering away from the halfling and his hidey hole. Then the gnoll trips, falling flat on its face, one hand gripping the bolt. The gnoll stays down, writhing a little.

I am going to drop out of rounds now, maybe a little premature but the other bow gnoll has scarpered and the 100 plus foot of difficult terrain makes it almost impossible for you guys to catch him. Norn has a living one, only barely alive at the moment, he is far off to the right. Good stealth rolls Norn, my gnoll was playing hide and seek with you but you won. I'll work out some xp later on.

male; F +8, R +4, W +3 Human (Garamundi); AC* 17/14/13 or 19/14/15 (* When raging -1) HP 68/55(+8), Rage 14/7, Init +3, PER +8 Barbarian / Titan Mauler / 4; CMB +8, CMD 22

Erizi stands and watches the gnoll retreat, then hollers in gnoll "Run you coward"! "Run from the force that is Erizi". Then beating his chest he looks upward and howls at the sky "ArooooooooooH"! "I am Erizi the Mighty, and none can stand against my might".

He then turns to Nombir. "Was I not magnificant"? "Are you not fortunate to be allowed to adventure with me"? He then claps him on the shoulder, and heads back towards the monastery with a smug smile on his face.

Livvy peers from her cover at the retreating gnoll. When Nombir is near enough (and Erizi is not) to hear, she says quietly, "I'm concerned that we let one live. If he returns - when he returns - it will not be alone. I suspect we did not scare him enough to not seek revenge with the rest of the pack."

That said, she will move to the nearest gnoll corpse that is not being searched and check for anything of value.

The Exchange

Erizi's size allows his the odd fleeting glimpse of the gnoll as it disappears over the ridge and down into the valley of Kelmarane.

The hiccuping squeals of the badly wounded gnoll continue.

Female Halfling Rogue 3

"What about this one?" Norn shouts over to the others whilst pointing at the wounded Gnoll.

Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2

"Shall we eat it?" says Zaid, walking up. Then in gnoll:

Spoiler:
"I think we are going to eat you, but we will cook you alive first. How many are in your band and how far away are they? Tell me the truth and we will kill you quickly."

Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Shimei hears the agonized howls of the third gnoll with satisfaction, but, like Livvy, he's disturbed by the one that got away. If he alerts the gnolls in Kelmarane then the monastery will be useless as a base. Shimei runs in the direction he guesses the gnoll took , occasionally jumping onto rocks to get a higher vantage point.

FW, Shimei is willing to go quite a way in pursuit of the gnoll if he can spot him. I only have to get within bow range. If you want to say he can't catch him fine, but he's got to try.

The Exchange

Zaid and Norn (if he speaks gnoll)

Spoiler:
"Pain in back. Save me. I talk. Tell long words for that. Then get me free to run."

Shimei reaches the ridge after negotiating the rocks and passages. Looking down he can see the gnoll has reaches the flat ground and is breaking into a run.

You can have one arrow at 330 feet and then each round the gnoll runs a further 120 feet. Because it is downhill, I'll give you a +1 bonus to account for the greater range. Over to you. Go for it.

Male Human Cleric 2

"Yeh, ok Erizi!". Nombir wonders if his skills extend to mental problems, smiles at Erizi and then follows him to the Gnoll. "Does anybody understand what that thing is saying?"

Cough*She*Cough

Female Halfling Rogue 3

"Anyone here have anything that we could heal this fella up with? He says he is willing to talk if we do." Norn points to the bolt as she speaks.

The Exchange

You should get that cough seen to. And I corrected that yesterday. You would think I'd remember. Made the same mistake several times at the weekend with my druid's female ape.

Male Human Cleric 2

"I'll have a look at him". Nombir sheathes his sword and looks over the Gnoll. "This arrow will have to come out" and pulls the arrow out. He then channels positive energy into the Gnoll and the party. "Abaddar help my friends and this thing" and Nombir raises his hand and blesses all present

1d6 ⇒ 6

Everybody gets 6 points of healing

The Exchange

The gnoll jumps to its feet and starts looking around for a quick escape route.

Initiatives from Erizi, the lovely Norn, Livvy, Nombir and Zaid. If you beat a 12, then you can act before the naughty gnoll.

Surely the Gnoll had surrendered and was under armed guard by Norn?

Surely. Please direct me to the relevant post. Next time I think so but remember you are level 1 novices so let's not take things for granted just yet. And Erizi will probably squash it flat in a second, he is still enlarged.
