Race to Witch Mountain Review (May include Spoiler)

Movies

I had the following thought as I viewed the trailer for Race to Witch Mountain: “Why are they going to destroy a classic movie?” I mean I like Dwayne Johnson in most of his movies but I seriously thought this was going to be a total failure. As expected of Disney the movie is watchable and I am sure that children was enjoy the experience of watching it. However that doesn’t excuse the fact that they turned Witch Mountain into a military “ufo” facility or supercharged the once meager ability of the children of Witch Mountain.

I wondered a few times if I was watching a teenage superheroes movie or something that descended from Witch Mountain’s original movies. Ah well, I will accept the movie for what it is which is a movie aimed at kids and young teenagers which is perfectly acceptable and I will no longer over-think the movie as anything except that.

You should re-watch the origainal witch mountain movie, it's a childrens movie full of very bad acting and worse dialog there is no way you can call it a classic. Re-making the movie would be about the same as remaking Scooby-Doo or Bullwinkle movies, anything would be better.

Silver Crusade

completley diasgree. I have rewatched Ecape from With Mountain, and think it holds up pretty well. Disney remade it as a weekend tv movie and that version I thought was terrible, but stayed close to the original at least. I have not seen "Race"

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

It wasn't bad. A little silly, but no more so than the classic.

Fun Fact! The original kids have cameos! Tony plays Sheriff Anthony and Tia is a waitress named Tina.

May I just interject to say that Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is a pretty good movie. Aside from that movie however, most of the rest are pretty bad, yeah.

As for Witch Mountain, the original book was good enough that I never much cared for the original movie and the previews for the new movie look like they did a lot of plot rewrites and power-ups to add 'appeal.' I'll wait to see it until its on TV.

I am a big fan of the original movie and I must say that I found this version to be enjoyable as well. The alien assassin plot was good, and I found myself wanting to use the basic premise as a d20 Modern adventure. The several nods of the head to the original were amusing to me. The afore mentioned waitress and sherrif were funny, although I wish they had made them larger players in the story. I also liked the mention that the maps of Witch Mountain were over thirty years old, since Escape to Witch Mountain was filmed and released in 1975. Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

I also liked the idea of changing it to a covert government program hunting the kids rather than an excentric billionaire. I never understood why they didn't just go to the police and have Tia say that some creepy pervert was trying to grab her and her brother. Now it makes sense.

Edit: I had expected that the final scene would be the kids coming back to say that the invasion was going to happen anyway.

The power boost is not that big of a deal actually. In fact, mostly they just use their powers to convince The Rock that they are aliens.

Best scene of the movie:

Jack (reacting to Sarah levitating stuff in his car): That's impossible.
Sarah: No it's completely possible, on our planet and yours. You just don't do it because you haven't learned to use your whole mind yet.
Jack: No, I don't do it because it's creepy.

That really was one of the funniest parts in the movie.
