Amie |

As the battle ends the Spiritual Bow disappears in a pale shimmer. Amie slowly walk up to Smokey and bows deeply to him. Smokey in turn drops down to all fours and meanders back into the forest. She then turns to the rest of the party and bows again.
“Thank you for coming our aid. I am Amie Stargazer, a servant of Erastil. I hope none of you were wounded in assisting us. I can heal any one who may be of need”
She then takes of her pack, wincing slightly, and takes out of it a healers kit.

Lucky Hans |

"Enchanted to meet you, pretty lady!" Hans bows, but does not remove his hat or dismount. "My name is Hans, or Hans the Lucky, or Lucky Hans -- as you wish. I can aid the wounded, too; my lucky stick will cure what ails you!" He gestures to one of the twigs tucked into his belt.
He cocks his head. "Hmmm. I think I still hear noises over yonder. Are there more trouble-makers hereabouts?"
So is the fight still going on elsewhere?

Coraline and the leader are still in battle. It'll take you two rounds to get to them, and if you were to move there right now, you'll arrive at the end of the fourth round of that battle. We'll be running that one this evening, after baron von heshvaun gets off work.
The Dire Bear and the Nessian Warhound are also still going at it, and it'll take you two rounds to get to them. If you were to move there right now, you'll arrive at the end of the sixth round of that battle, assuming it is still going on by then (I roll it here in a minute). Basically, your position and the positions of those other two battles kind of form a giant isosceles triangle.
Amie and Sevegny, remember that you have your Channel Energy class feature, which will allow you to take care of a lot of the party's healing needs without having to expend any spells. Hans, unfortunately, doesn't get that ability (much to my chagrin as well, because I'm playing a Druid in one of my real world games), I think it is only straight clerics that get it.

![]() |

Does any one know what page in the book the channel energy ability is described in detail (I assume you at least have to roll some thing to find out howmuch you can heal with it). If its not in the core book can some one give me the specs on it.
Thank you
It is briefly described on page 22 of the Beta, under the Cleric features, and in much greater detail in the Combat section of the Beta, on pages 148-149. Note that although it is usually described in terms of how it is used against undead, there don't have to be undead in the area to use the ability for its healing aspect.

Diego (and anyone else who was following) arrives at the battle between Coraline and the Lieutenant just in time to see Coraline spin about in her dance o' death, surrounded by whirling blades that carve the hobgoblin leader into filets. Staggered by her onslaught and barely hanging onto life, the hobgoblin stumbles back and right into Barley's massive jaws. That's the second time in one day you've seen that dog finish off a hobgoblin with a good bite to the backside!
The bear and the warhound are still going at it.

Is the hound in range of composite long bow fire ? If so ...
Fueled by adrenaline and with the grace of death Coraline notches a silver arrow to her longbow.
I will not leave the hob leader unattended without first at least binding him up.
And Redfeather is having a birthday this week.

Tate Argensier |

Tate calmly and expertly binds the unconscious hobgoblin. He binds its hands behind it, and binds it at knee and ankle. He will keep an eye on the newcomers.
"Your arrival was timely. Go and finish the fight. I will make sure that this one is ready for questioning. If you can catch another of these, we will be able to question them seperately, which will give us a way to verify such testimony as I will extract. Introductions can wait."
survival roll to tie hobgoblin:

Lucky Hans |

Hans sneaks up to the melee between the bear and the hound and lets out a low whistle.
"I don't want to get close to that donnybrook, no sirree! But maybe I can even the odds a little bit for our furry friend."
He draws one of his lucky sticks from his belt, speaks a word of magic, and sends three mystical bolts plunging into the giant hound's flank.

Amie |

Amie kneels down for a moment to take a much needed breather. She was also thinking. She was of the strong belief that miracles should be saved for emergencies. She knew she had healing powers, she had used them before. However she preferred to heal the ordinary way when she had the time because she also knew that her powers were limited. She was good at healing both ways and knew how to stitch up just about any wound. She takes a deep breath and winces greatly. However she had no idea how to set a fractured rib, let alone how to do it to herself. She ponders this for a moment, before settling on a decision.
If I’m going to use my powers, I’m not going to waste them on just myself..
“I saw you take a couple of good hits, Tate. Are you in need of any healing?”

Tate Argensier |

"If you are going to channel the divine, we should do it close to our captive here, and get our erstwhile allies close as well."
under his breath
"look if they are evil. We know nothing of them. Please don't tell them my name."
Tate will hoist the hobgoblin up in the air, upright, about two feet, using a block and tackle.

Diego Dellarillos |

Diego watches as the hob leader is hoisted up. "I'm fine, milady but I thank you for your concerns and consideration. My name is Diego and these fine companions of mine were on our way to seek aid for a small hamlet not too far from here. I hear tales that evil is afoot, but I had no idea it was so close to here!"

Amie |

Amie gives a polite smile to Diego. “I am glad to here that you are not injured, I hope none of your companions are of need as well.” She gives a polite bow of her head as she turns from him and moves over to Tate. She speaks to him very quietly and in elven.
“I don not get the feel of evil off of them, but I understand your concern. My father was much the same way. I will hold off my healing for the time being, though I do not know if my powers will work so well on that thing.” She gestures her head to the hobgoblin.

I believe Diego confused which area he was in. He stated that he was running toward Coraline's battle, so the hob that he saw being tied up was the leader, but Amie was back with the larger group.
Hans moved off to add his magic to the battle of the beasts. Tate is hoisting up the bound hobgoblin archer, and Amie and Sevegny are seeing to the wounded (but holding off on magical healing until everyone is back, am I right?)

Is the hound in range of composite long bow fire ? If so ...
You'd be at -10 to hit, (-6 due to range, -4 due to firing into melee) plus the 50% miss chance for total concealment, since there are trees in the way.

![]() |

Hans, give me an initiative roll, and tell me how far away from the feuding beasts you're going to stay (i.e. let me know if you move into melee range).
They are both pretty bloodied up, but the bear seems to have gained the upper hand.

I'm holding off till people get back. Though where are Cal and Red Feather? Did Cal stuick around with the "resting" party or did he go off seeking more battle?

Cal is pretty badly wounded, and though he wants to join the battle with the leader, he meets Coraline and Diego dragging their captive on the way, so he returns to the "resting" group, content for the moment to let the large beasts fight amongst themselves. As for Red Feather, he hasn't stated he was moving off, so he's there with the rest of you.

Diego Dellarillos |

Coraline 'Claret' Chandrila wrote:Thats a good question. I didn't relize that. Where are you Deigo? You posted that you ran towards Coraline's battle yet you spoke to Amie who stayed in the same area.
Do Tate and I have the same hob tied up ? I thought we had two of them.
Yoinks! Oops, hold the conversation until we drag the hob back...

Red Feather |

Yes Red Feather stuck around. He is milling about giving words of encouragement, helping out as he can etc.

Lucky Hans |

Hans stays about 100' away, preferably keeping the bear between him and the hound.

Hans' missiles sink into the hide of the warhound. With a howl of fury, but not yet realizing that the attack didn't come from the bear, it spins out from under the weight of the bear and delivers a viscious bite to the furred neck of the giant animal, for 20 damage. Like its smaller cousins, flames lick out of the snapping jaws of the warhound, but the flames seem to have no effect on the bear.
The bear, momentarily distracted by the addition of a new combatant, and shaken by the renewed vigor of the warhound, backs away a step, looking for a new opening in the diabolical beast's defenses.
Initiative order now is Warhound, Hans, Dire Bear. So Hans is up.

I sent you an email much earlier.
After doing a heal check (26) and binding the hobgoblin leader I wanted to use Longstrider to make a double move for 1 round to get in range of firing my bow at the hell hound.
roll to hit with masterwork bow and Silver arrows second round *after* one full round running at max speed (double move so say up to 70 feet closer to target)
19 ! + 6 BAB + 6 (Dex) = 31 !
second roll (full attack)
EVEN BETTER !! Natural 20 ! + 2 BAB + 6 = 28
Confirming the CRIT WITH A 20 !
Damage from first shot =
8 + 2 (Str) = 10
Damage from second shot (and crit)
10 + 4 (Str) = 14
Total damage on second round = 24
I left Barley with the stabalized hob

Lucky Hans |

Hans sends another set of missiles streaking towards the hellish hound and tips a wink to the bear (druid?).
The bear strikes again at the hellhound, missing with one claw, but hitting with the other claw and a bite, for a total of 31 damage.
The Nessian Warhound finally keels over amidst a cloud of sulfurous stench, and in minutes its own flames consume the body. Its armor is all that remains, gleaming barding fitted for a creature about the size of a small-to-medium sized horse. A skilled blacksmith could probably refit it to fit Barley, or it could fit Amie's horse as is.

Sorry, I saw your email, but I was waiting until I saw how it fared against Hans and the dire bear for a couple rounds, because it would have taken you at least three rounds, possibly a little more, to get to where you could fire, after the end of your battle, because the heal check and the binding would have taken at least one round each.
So you actually get within sight range of the battle just about the time that the bear finally finishes off the hound, with help from Hans.

Hans and Coraline
After she emerges, the vines fall away and the leaves scatter harmlessly on the ground. She is armored in breastplate and greaves of some kind of material you have never seen before - it isn't metal, nor wood, nor leather. The armor is blood-red. She draws a scimitar and stabs at the cinders where the warhound used to be. The blade of the scimitar is of the same blood-red substance as her armor.
"Why would a small raiding party be in the company of such a creature?" she muses. "Not a good sign!"

![]() |

Between the three battles, you find the following items:
Armor
Jewel-encrusted studded leather armor of very high quality (spellcaster's)
Mithral chainmail that strangely does not make noise when handled (leader's)
Light wooden shield that seem unusually resistant to damage
ten suits of regular studded leather
ten light wooden shields of regular quality
Weapons
Three masterworked glaives
Longsword etched with arcane runes (leader's)
Longbow made of some kind of bone and etched with runes
Three regular shortswords
Two regular longbows
Five regular glaives
Miscellaneous
Ring inscribed with runes (leader's)
Pouch with 90 gold

Okay, everybody except for Hans and Coraline gets 2000 XP. Hans gets 2500 XP since he was the only one who actually participated in the beast battle (but he was only there for end of it, so he won't get full XP for the warhound, but he'll get some). Coraline took on the leader single-handedly, start-to-finish, so she gets 3000 XP.
For those of you who haven't yet set your base XP, it is 15,000 for 6th level (we're going with fast progression). So your actual XP right now is 18,000 (18,500 for Hans, and 19,000 for Coraline). Next level is 23,000.
I was originally going to do additional XP based on skill rolls, attack rolls, and so on, but then I realized that while it would add an element of individuality to character advancement, it's also a heckuva lot of work that would probably make my brain melt by the end of a single battle, so instead I'm just rounding up to the next 500 after the base xp from the challenge rating is figured, which accounts for roleplaying and skill checks, etc.

‘Great lady of the Woods, how do you fare ?’ Coraline shows genuine concern for the elven druid and if she allows for it tries to tend to some of her wounds.
heal check 14 + 6 = 20.
‘My name is Coraline and my skills in the healing arts are quite meager and not on par as that of some in our company, would you join us so more proper introductions can be had ?’
Coraline then whispers to Hans, ’she has obviously been through a vicious battle, be a dear and try not to flirt with her for just a bit as we make our way to the others.’

Lucky Hans |

"Madam!" Hans grins proudly. "Your fighting prowess is surpassed only by your beauty! Am I correct in supposing that you are also a nature-lover like myself?"
Switching to the secret language of druids, he adds:

Amaranth NPC |

Honestly, did you really expect a halfling not to flirt?
The druid accepts your offers to help her, and wounded as she is, she slings an arm over each of your shoulders as you walk her back to the rest of the group.

To both of you, in Common: "If the goblin-kin are wise, they will not attempt to incur further than these shallow outwoods. But these seem to be well-trained and well-outfitted, and they travel with great beasts that one would not expect to see apart from larger hordes. This concerns me, and it should concern our brothers and sisters. I must see that they are made aware that these are more than mere scavengers and raiders."

Nightwish I posted some rolls on the ooc thread, I realize these rolls will come later on I just did them in case I can't post, and the final roll is for intimidate for the hob leader, but I'll wait for others to aid.
OK

The rest of the group hears movement in the trees to the south, and a few moments later, Coraline and Hans come into the clearing, bearing between them a very lovely, but badly wounded female elf. For those who haven't read Hans' and Coraline's earlier spoiler, the elf is a redhead, and she is armored in breastplate and greaves, but you cannot identify the material, though you can tell it isn't metal, wood or leather.
