Flint Earthbrother |

Flint shall stick near Eland to protect the unarmored mage should battle begin. He listen for any sound that might seems out of place, he knows mages can become become unseen...
Perception(listen): 3+8=11.

Ivan Boldreiva |

Ivan turns to watch the ground floor in case they missed something or someone.
Perception: 24

Monty Haul |

As your group begins quietly moving up the stairs, Eland and Flint remain at the ground level, watching the doorways above. Ivan also stays near the bottom of the stairs, surveying the ground floor whilst the rest begin to ascend to the second level.
The quiet of the house is suddenly shattered as several of the doors burst open and darkly dressed warriors pour onto the balcony. Most are armed with crossbows, however a few are wielding melee weapons and look to be trying to take control of the landings, preventing you from reaching the second floor.
Initiative:
Grunthor
Anyssa
Ivan
Burglars
Damandor
Garret
Eland
Flint
Next to act (in any order) are:
Grunthor
Anyssa
Ivan

Anyssa the Clumsy |

Anyssa draws her starknives as she runs up the stairs, hurrying towards the nearest burglar.
Heading towards Q4. I'm having a really hard time understanding the map, so I'm not sure how close I can get to that position. I always have trouble with 2d maps involving stairs and landings.

Monty Haul |

Grunthor slips past Garret, moving 40 feet to E7, if my computations are correct. He then attacks the bandit at D8 with his short sword and a great battle roar.
As the burglars begin to emerge from the doorways, Grunthor leaps up the stairs with a yell, swinging his sword savagely towards a woman, clad in dark leather armour and holding a loaded light crossbow. Eyes widening at the sudden attack, she ducks instinctively and Grunthor’s sword ricochet’s off the doorframe, splinters of wood flying everywhere.

Monty Haul |

Ivan sprints up the stairs on the right, moving to close with the burgalur on that side.
Running up the stairs smoothly, Ivan moves towards the nearest doorway, looking through he can see there is a woman about to emerge wielding a long sword. In the gloom of the room behind her, Ivan can see a man, armed with a light crossbow.

Monty Haul |

Anyssa draws her starknives as she runs up the stairs, hurrying towards the nearest burglar.
Anyssa leaps nimbly up the steps, knives drawn as she reaches the doorway where she confronts a woman in dark leather armor and wielding a long sword. Behind her is another burglar armed with a crossbow, now unable to get out onto the landing. He swears as their ambush is ruined, turning to disappear into the dark room beyond.

Monty Haul |

The woman facing Grunthor drops her crossbow with a clatter and draws a longsword sheathed at her waist. Stepping cautiously out onto the landing, she positions herself carefully, preparing to attack the powerful barbarian. Drawing her sword and taking a five foot step to E8.
From the other door near Grunthor, one man emerges, running to the edge of the balcony and firing at Garret who winces in pain as the bolt slams into his shoulder, only an inch or so from the halfling’s heart. Garret takes 5 hit points damage.
Crossbow fired at Garret. (1d20+1=20, 1d8=5) Critical confirmation on Garret. (1d20+1=13, 1d8=8)
Another burglar emerges from the same doorway wielding a longsword. Seeing that your group has already secured the stairs, he moves up behind Grunthor and attempts to run the barbarian through. His attack hits home, although the wound is only superficial. Grunthor takes 3 hit points damage.
Attack on Grunthor (including flank). (1d20+3=17, 1d8=3)
On the other side of the landing, Anyssa is attacked by the woman facing her, however her opponent is clearly unprepared for Anyssa’s speed and misses by a wide margin.
Attack on Anyssa. (1d20+1=4, 1d8=6)
From the fourth doorway emerges an enormous, powerfully built barbarian. With a scream of rage, he runs towards Ivan, rapidly covering the ground between them as he swings his greataxe at the wrestler. Although Ivan easily evades the attack, there is no doubting the fury, nor power behind the swing.
Barbarian's attack on Ivan. (1d20+4=7, 1d12+3=13)
From the same doorway that the barbarian was hiding behind emerges the red-haired woman who you encountered on the docks last night. Her expression dark, she moves to the edge or the balcony. Readying her crossbow she releases a bolt towards Damandor before he has had a chance to react to the sudden eruption of violence around him. Unprepared for the attack, Damandor feels a stab of pain as the bolt slams into his back. Damandor takes 6 hit points damage.
Sneak attack on Damandor (still flat-footed). (1d20+3=14, (1d8+1d6)=6)

Monty Haul |

Heading towards Q4. I'm having a really hard time understanding the map, so I'm not sure how close I can get to that position. I always have trouble with 2d maps involving stairs and landings.
I didn’t really draw the stairs very well – you can certainly get to Q4. I’ve amended the map below to show everyone’s positions after the actions so far in this round.
Next up (in any order):
Damandor
Garret
Eland
Flint

Damandor Yolanux |

Damandor moves up the stairs past Garret (to G4) and then a burst of positive energy bursts forth from Damandor causing all those are near by who are wounded to be healed of some of their wounds.
As he comes around the stairs and can see who it is that shot him, he has a look of mixed surprise and anger on his face.
Damandor uses his Channel Positive Energy ability to cure himself and all around him of up to 6 hp, it effects all with in a 30' radius of Damandor. 1d6=6

Flint Earthbrother |

Garret Highhill |

Garret steps back, draws his shortbow and returns fire to the man who shot him.
5 foot step to J3, attacking F3: 1d20+5=15, 1d4=2

Monty Haul |

Flint moves to 9f and swings his warhammer at the bandit in 8e.
Sorry - clearly my map is not particularly clear.....
All the bandits are upstairs on the landing which circles the room. That means if you move to 8F - the bandit at 8E is twenty five feet above you. To attack, you'll need to go up the stairs. Assuming you want to get as close to an enemy as possible, I've moved you to G3 (from there, the bandit at F3 is looking down at you from a height of around eight feet). You'll be able to move and attack one of the bandits fighting grunthor next round.Flint hurries up the stairs past Garret, ready to assist Grunthor and Damandor as they struggle with the darkly armored bandits.

Monty Haul |

Garret steps back, draws his shortbow and returns fire to the man who shot him.
5 foot step to J3, attacking F3: 1d20+5=15, 1d4=2
Garret's arrow glances off the man's armor, making him grunt slightly at the shock, but without doing any substantial damage.

Monty Haul |

Damandor moves up the stairs past Garret (to G4) and then a burst of positive energy bursts forth from Damandor causing all those are near by who are wounded to be healed of some of their wounds.
As he comes around the stairs and can see who it is that shot him, he has a look of mixed surprise and anger on his face.
A soft, green glow emanates briefly from Damandor as he murmurs a prayer to Corellon. For a moment, Garret and Grunthor detect the fresh scent of a forest or wood - although the sensation is faint and fleeting, it leaves them both fresh and revived.
Damandor, Grunthor and Garret are all healed of 6 hit points.

Eland Westlocke |

sorry for the delay
Seeing the red haired woman from the night before, Eland never forgets a pretty face, he calls out to her. "Hold, call your men off, we are Antius' men come to find what has happened to our patron." As a show of good faith he steps out into the center of the room, arms raised, yet ready to lower his ring hand and fire off a magic missle.

Grunthor Firbolg |

Grunthor decides to stop playing around and spins and strikes the bandit that hit him.
Hits bandit in E6 with a natural 20 that only confirmed with a 15. Damage = 2+4 = 6, if by some miracle that confirms, he also deals and addition 5+4 = 9 points of damage.
He then takes a five foot step to F8 to avoid the flank, at least temporarily.

Monty Haul |

Seeing the red haired woman from the night before, Eland never forgets a pretty face, he calls out to her. "Hold, call your men off, we are Antius' men come to find what has happened to our patron." As a show of good faith he steps out into the center of the room, arms raised, yet ready to lower his ring hand and fire off a magic missle.
"Oh I remember," calls out the woman with a sneer. "I lost two good men last night. The way I see it, that was you and your patron's fault - so it's you and your patron who will pay..." She begins reloading her crossbow, pointing it menacingly towards Eland.
You can release your readied spell before her attack if you wish, alternatively you could make one more effort to placate her - although it looks like she's not really interested in negotiating and the rest of the room is currently a violent melee between her thugs and the rest of your group.

Monty Haul |

Ivan tries for a low kick-punch combination.
flurry of blows17,7
damage 6,10
Ivan releases a savage kick at the half-orc's knee, making him cry out in pain. However, as he tries to follow up, his opponent dodges aside avoiding any further damage. Snarling at you incoherently, he readies his axe for another assault.

Monty Haul |

Grunthor decides to stop playing around and spins and strikes the bandit that hit him.
Hits bandit in E6 with a natural 20 that only confirmed with a 15. Damage = 2+4 = 6, if by some miracle that confirms, he also deals and addition 5+4 = 9 points of damage.
He then takes a five foot step to F8 to avoid the flank, at least temporarily.
Slipping out from between the two burglars, Grunthor deals a nasty wound to the one who hit him last round. The man winces in pain, although he doesnt fall back, pressing the attack as the two thugs once more try and maneuver themselves into position surrounding the barbarian.

Ivan Boldreiva |

on my turnIvan decides to make a grappling dive for his opponent's torso, forcing the man to drop his axe to deal with him effectively.
grapple: 21.

Monty Haul |

Anyssa swipes her starknives at the thug in front of her.
The thug turns aside, easily avoding one starknife as she spars with Anyssa. The second hits home, slicing the woman's arm as she readies a counterattack. Wincing in pain, she nonetheless stabs her sword forward suddenly - clearly a well trained footsoldier used to the cut and thrust of close combat.

Monty Haul |

Eland lowers his ring hand and unloads his magic missile at the red haired woman. "You have mmade the wrong choice, it is too bad you will not live to learn from it." [/ooc]
Eland points his arm towards the red-headed woman, clenching his fist as a bolt of magical energy flies up towards the balcony, hitting her in the side.

Monty Haul |

The man fighting Grunthor follows his quarry, unleashing a vicious attack on the barbarian. The woman he is fighting moves to flank him, cooperating with her companion and landing an equally savage blow as they surround Grunthor.
Grunthor takes 6 hit points from a confirmed critical and 7 from the woman’s attack (also a critical, although unconfirmed).
The man Garret exchanged fire with last round reloads and shoots another bolt towards the halfling, however he dodges aside easily, the bolt burying itself in the wall beside him. Anyssa is also attacked, however the savage thrust of the woman’s longsword is turned aside by her armor.
Attacks by thugs on Grunthor, Grunthor, Garret and Anyssa. (1d20+1=20, 1d8=3, 1d20+1=20, 1d8=7, 1d20+1=13, 1d8=1, 1d20+1=16, 1d8=7) Critical confirmation on Grunthor. (1d20+1=20, 1d8=3, 1d20+1=13, 1d8=6)
The red headed woman cries out angrily as Eland’s magic missile hits her, aiming her crossbow and releasing a bolt at the mage. However he is able to step to one side, the bolt slamming into the marble floor behind him with a loud crack. At this point, a fifth thug appears beside her, longsword drawn as he murmurs something in her ear.
Attack on Eland. (1d20+3=10, 1d8=2)
Unused to being confronted so directly, the enraged half-orc lets out another bellow of fury, swinging his enormous axe once more towards Ivan in a devastating arc. The seasoned warrior evades the blade easily, although is once more struck by the ferocity of the barbarian’s attack.

Damandor Yolanux |

Damandor shouts over his shoulder to Flint, "Follow me we must help Grunthor."
Damandor then bounds the rest of the way up the stairs to F6, shouting as he goes, "Hold on Grunthor help is coming!"
He then attacks the bandit at F7 with his mace: 1d20+2=7, 1d8+2=4
Unfortunately it looks like Damandor stumbles on the last step as he ran up the stairs and the attempted strike with his mace on the bandit attacking Grunthor is off.

Grunthor Firbolg |

When Grunthor's turn comes around again:
Being hit twice is more than he can rationally deal with. With a roar of pain and RAGE he does what he should have done in the first place and goes into a rage and attacks the woman at F9 with a critical hit.
d20+5=25, damage=d6+6=7, confirmation: d20+5=24, damage=d6+6=7
It is not wise to hit an unraged barbarian. Take that you pile of fermented horse droppings. He then spins and prepares to remove his other opponent on the next swing.

Garret Highhill |

Garret fires another shot at the thief, but it hits the banister instead.

Flint Earthbrother |

Monty Haul |

Garret Highhill |

You'll have to help me here. Acid ray? Is that one of your prepared spells? Which book is it from?
Looks like he got it from the Earth domain. (Acid Dart(Su) As a standard action, you can unleash an acid dart targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The acid dart deals 1d6 points of acid damage + 1 for every two caster levels you possess.)

Monty Haul |

Flint shall move try to move close enough for his acid ray.
Moving to the top of the stairs, Flint shoots a dart of acid towards the burglar who has been firing at Garret, he then continues towards him able to engage him next round with either melee or magic. The man staggers back in surprise, crying out in pain as the acid covers his face and chest, burning him terribly.
Flint - I got confused and messed up (only read the bit that said Druids dont get domain powers, not the later paragraph which said they could swap their animal companion for a power) so I've had to adjust your actions somewhat (the map is now posted and I'm no longer at home, so can't amend it. Apologies for that...

Monty Haul |

It is not wise to hit an unraged barbarian. Take that you pile of fermented horse droppings. He then spins and prepares to remove his other opponent on the next swing.
Grunthor unleashes a mighty blow and cuts the burglar down, his axe catching her under the arm. With a cry of pain, the armored woman staggers against the banister, toppling over the edge and plunging to land motionless at Eland’s feet.

Monty Haul |

Ivan decides to make a grappling dive for his opponent's torso, forcing the man to drop his axe to deal with him effectively.
Ivan lunges forward suddenly under the guard of the barbarian he is fighting and wraps both arms around the half-orc’s waist, tangling one arm and preventing him from swinging his axe.
The two of you are still grappled – remember that each round you get a +5 to your ongoing grapple checks unless he breaks your hold.

Monty Haul |

Seeing that the half-orc and her soldier are holding their own against Anyssa and Ivan, the red-headed woman directs the burglar beside her to help in the fight on the other side of the room. As he runs to engage Grunthor (moving to F9) his companion at steps out from between Grunthor and Damandor, before attacking the barbarian and once more dealing him a nasty blow. Grunthor takes a further 8 hit points.
Attack on Grunthor (1d20+1=17, 1d8=8)
Meanwhile the burglar who has been firing at Garret continues to do so after backing away from the advancing Flint. He reloads his crossbow and shoots another bolt towards the Halfling which hits once more, Garret again narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal wound. Garret takes 4 hit points. Burglar took a five foot step to F2
Crossbow bolt fired at Garret. (1d20+1=20, 1d8=4)
Critical confirmation on Garret. (1d20+1=2, 1d8=6)
The red headed woman levels her crossbow at the mage once again, this time hitting him squarely in the chest. If not for his hastily erected shield spell, Eland would have been in serious trouble, however the enchantment manages to deflect some of the bolt’s force. Eland takes 4 hit points.
Attack on Eland (1d20+3=23, 1d8=4)
Critical confirmation on Eland. (1d20+3=13, 1d8=3)
On the other side of the lobby, the half-orc struggles to free himself from Ivan’s iron grip, however is unable to extricate himself, the strong wrestler holding him fast.
Barbarian struggles with Ivan, trying to prevent grapple. (1d20+5=12)
The woman fighting Anyssa unleashes a series of slashing attacks and this time manages to land a blow, her sword opening a sever gash across Anyssa’s chest. Anyssa takes 6 hit points.

Monty Haul |

Garret Highhill |

Flint – not sure if you were intending to use an Earth Domain power here, but Druids don’t get domain spells or powers the way clerics do. To keep things going, I’ve instead moved you up the rest of the stairs and towards the burglar at F3 (who is now backing away, still firing at Garret). If I’ve cheated you somehow, I’ll fix it up next round (and you’ll essentially get two attacks).
Actually, under the Pathfinder Beta, druids can choose to either take an animal companion or a single one of the nature-related domains listed in the druid class features.
Garret finally hits the thief with an arrow.

Monty Haul |

Actually, under the Pathfinder Beta, druids can choose to either take an animal companion or a single one of the nature-related domains listed in the druid class features.
Oh thanks Garret, I appreciate it. I stopped reading at "druids dont get domain powers like clerics..." part of the druid's description - not going on to the option of giving up their animal companion. I've amended my narration of Flint's action above - the map is still correct. Apologies to all for any confusion..

Damandor Yolanux |

Damandor steps forward 5 feet towards the unconscious Grunthor. And swings his mace at the burglar that stands in front of the door.
But it looks as if Damandor fails to strike his opponent once more. Damandor then draws out his dagger with his left hand.
Damandor moves to F7 and attacks the burglar at E8. He then draws his dagger with his off hand and is now holding two weapons.
