My gaming is group is getting ready to play RotRL and I was wondering...where in Golarion did the Kaijitsu family orginate. There's a reference to some place called "Minkai", but I can't find it on the map of Golarion.
I know Lonjiku was born in Magnimar, but I was just curious as to where his culture originated, since one of my players is interested in playing a samurai or monk from the same area.
Thanks.

They're from Tian Xia, the Asian culture of Golarion. Go north from Varisia until you cross the polar ice, then you're on the new continent.

There's more information about where the Kaijitsus are from in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting Hardcover, but here's the short version:
The Kaijitsus come from Tian Xia, which is on the other side of the world. Tian Xia is Golarion's version of Asia, and Minkai is a region in Tian Xia that equates to Golarion's version of Japan. The Kaijitsus left Tian Xia many years ago, traveling north from Minkai and up to the continent at the north pole, a place known as the Crown of the World, and then down the Avistan side where they eventually came upon a bustling brand-new city called Magnimar. They settled there, and Lonjiku was born not long after.
As for why the Kaijitsus moved, that's something that will have to wait for future exploration, perhaps in a future Adventure Path.
A player who wants to play a samurai or monk (or ninja or wu jen or whatever) from Tian Xia could certainly have followed the same route... at least, his parents could have. The weird part of traveling over half the world and getting to where you're going and still being 1st level is kinda strange, of course, so perhaps the new PC was born in Varisia to parents who came from Tian Xia... he/she could even be a brother/sister/cousin to Ameiko. Samurai, of course, are pretty tied to a particular kind of culture, and a character who follows that role would more properly be a ronin, I guess. Perhaps his family came over the top of the world, and his father retained several samurai, and then when the father dies on the journey, the young PC is raised by the Samurai who impresses upon him bushido and all that?

I'm going to hold you to the words in bold and conveniently forget the words in italics. Will Tian Xia have countries inspired by Korea and Mongolia as well?

Yes. Tian Xia will absolutely include areas inspired by pretty much all of Asia. In particular, there's analogues for Japan, China, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, and Mongolia so far.

I just hope there's Kaiju. I was going to Kaiju-con and G-Con long before I got into D&D =p

You are familiar, no doubt, with Kaiju Big Battel, the live action kaiju wrestling league? If not, it's a great time. They have DVDs for sale but live shows are not to be missed. I've seen them four times and try not to miss them when they come to town.

There are kaiju on Golarion. And some of them are in Tian Xia.
There are Kaiju in Golarion? Sweet! Are they all Rovagug's children, then?

Some of them are Rovagug's spawn, like the Tarasque and Xotani the Firebleeder. Others are not.

When you talk about Golarion's Asia, don't forget Casmaron. That's where you'll find Arabian Nights and Bollywood action.
And also where you'll find Russia and the Middle East. And of course, the Pit of Gormuz, which is where the Spawn of Rovagug came from (to bring it back to kaiju).

I am so excited about this. I'm can't wait to see what Paizo does with regions based on Korea and Mongolia.
I started to get interested in Asia when I took an Asian film course in university but found myself more a fan of Kurosawa than of the more serious films we studied.
Then, I lived in Korea for 8 years and passionately read Korean history during that time. My wife and I rarely watch TV together with the exception of Korean history or fantasy series. Yi San, Jumong, and Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi were great fun. (I'd swear the creators of Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi have played D&D.)
When will we see more of these regions?
