I'm going to try and bring this thug around to see what he knows.
I have to wait an hour. Then I'll take 10. Takes 1 strain but recovered 1 strain.
Healing thug check (1d4+1=5)
If he doesn't regain consciousness after an hour we'll leave him and take Adain home. Then we'll head back to the Inn.
Kael,
~The thugs rouses himself slightly, appearing more than a little confused~ Wha...? What happened?
~Arien (Yes, I will remember his name from now on!!! ~GRINS~) grabs the thug and shakes him~ Why did you attack us? WHY?

![]() |

"Get out of town. I won't bring you back a second time."
We leave him and take Arien home. Then we'll head back to the Inn.
~Arien wants to be with you all, but you talk him out of that, stating that he needs to rest and heal. He does insist tht you must see Lady Chauntessa and tell her about what has happened~

Brother Seamus |

~Arien wants to be with you all, but you talk him out of that, stating that he needs to rest and heal. He does insist tht you must see Lady Chauntessa and tell her about what has happened~
Walking Arien to his house, I ask "Thou didst seem familiar with those men, knowing them to be cowards afore the fighting began. How come you to know this?"
We also need to see the City Guard and report what happened. Otherwise, there's a homicide in the middle of the street, and I'm the guilty party. When we report the incident, my initial description will not include Arien --after all, he wasn't involved in the fight-- but about halfway through the interview I'll mention that we were alking him home. I want to see what kind of reaction that generates. We probably don't mention the name "Ankiel".
The Guardsmen have one corpse, descriptions of the two muggers we captured but let go, and a trail of blood they might follow to Thug 1.
The weather has cancelled my trip to the Twin Cities over the next couple of days, so I might be checking in more regularly.

Aldan |

Step to one side ~
"magister, Mistress I hope all is going good for you this evening.""So a powerful rich Magister such as yourself could use an acquaintance in an unknown town, not that this lovely vision next to you doesn't have a lot to offer, I'm just saying that I have been known to be able to find out lots of useful information for a person."
~follows them down he stairs~
"and in so doing i should be able to justify some small meager form of compensation such as scrolls or other devices that would be beneath such a powerful lord asyourselfandthereforoffergreatservicetoyouandyours......"
does not seem to pause to catch a breath the entire way down the stairs
"I assure you, I'm neither rich nor powerful. However, I do see the merit in having a 'guide', and I would be willing to part with some gold or even a scroll or two. Though, the scrolls will have to wait for now." He will continue to follow the waitress downstairs.
Just realized, scribing scrolls costs xp.. 1st level characters don't have xp.. that doesn't make sense to me actually

Kael and Brother Seamus,
(Sorry about not posting earlier. I am still trying to shake this having to sleep thing, but it doesn't seem to work. I have been trying for 39 years to stop sleeping. Damn flaw in the system!)
~Arien shows you some old bruises and marks~ Cowards like that are everywhere! They prey on the weak and run from the strong!
~the city guard thanks you for informing them about the assault upon you two~

Brother Seamus |

{undercommon] "If we should still be at liberty, indeed.
"I fear we may have put the good man's life in danger. So far as he was a laughing-stock, no one took his words --or his threat-- seriously. When we paid attention, someone decided he needed to be silenced. The muggers did ignore me; rather, they all attacked him, the lesser danger.
"By certes, I trust not the guard. If I did, sure would I press that they hold Arien in custody. He would seem more likely to see a few more sunsets that way.
"You may be wise there, Kael. This patroness might be able to extend her aegis over the poor sot."

EDIT: Craft Points are in Unearthed Arcana, and the SRD.

Well, the hard copy finally arrived today. ~holds the box~ IT is a monster. Having the hard copy will keep me from having to print everything out, which is nice in and of itself. ~rubs my hands together evilly~ Soon my players will suffer horribly! Soon! ~evil cackle~ Ummmmmm.......... Did I just say that? ~runs~

Brother Seamus |

~the city guard thanks you for informing them about the assault upon you two~
Do the guardsmen have any problem with my using lethal force to protect myself, with our capturing fleeing foes, or with us letting them go?
Do they react in any way when we mention Arien's involvement in the attack?

Brother Seamus,
~the guard do request that you refrain from using lethal force if possible. They also request that anyone that you manage to capture be handed over to them for questioning and possible trial~
~When you mention Arien, most of them roll their eyes~ Oh, him! Aways causing a ruckus and spouting off his tall tales! We do appricate you looking after the poor fool. Those muggers probably wanted the few coppers that he had on him.

Actually, the rules on Craft Points don't seem to affect the Experience Point cost for items at all; they just replace the time and gold requirements.
~thinks~ Hrumn. Let me think upon that for a bit.
Edit - I am willing to go with the way craft points are worded, but I will get back to you with the XP issues later. I will be putting the web site for the craft points on DM Sharoth's info page. (i.e. - Just click on my name.) I have several other links on there too.

Aldan,
~Tess smiles at Priapus~ You did good down there, Sir.
~she then snuggles up to you as you two walk downstairs~ What would you like to do? ~Tess asks you~
"Sir Gnome, you don't happen to know of any libraries open this late in town do you?" He says with a smirk as he looks to Tess.

Alden,
~Tess bats her eyelashes at you~ Why, my dear sir, we should have a mage coming here tonight! Thursdays are the day when Quintus tends to show up for some ale. He says that The Inn of The Slumbering Drake has some of the best ale around.

![]() |

"Oh really?" He says simply. "I assume he's someone of importance then? I'm not familiar with the name Quintus."
Aldan,
~Tess Grins impishly at you~ He is a wizard and a alchemist. In his late 70's and smells funny, but he does tip well. He is always ask adventurers to collect specimens of all the monsters that they encounter. You should talk to him.

"Quite possible.
"If ye mind not my asking, how long hath the man been so deep in his cups? Was he, indeed, captured by orcs? Is that a problem in these hills?"
I'm trying to Gather Information on Arien.

I am sure I can find out, I know lots of people as well, Idiah who is recovering after some nasty business upon the road and Merian Benvalla the Sword lieutenant, he he um cough, they hopefully will be joining us shortly for some food, by the way what is your name?"

Brother Seamus,
~the guard looks at you as if realizing what you are doing but humoring you anyway~ Arien is not a bad sort, excluding his desire to drownd himself in the drink. ~the guard thinks~ He showed up about a year ago, raving about slavers and orcs. We looked around to the best of our ability, but did not find anything. We even sent a few of our men to investigate the monistary up the hill. But we turned up nothing.

Aldan and Priapus,
~as you two enter into the hall and head towards a table, you all see a flash of light near the door~
The man who arrives is a tall, aging human with a flowing grey beard and unkempt hair. He has a pointy cap and is stooped over some. He is holding a fnarled staff. He looks every bit the 77 years that Tess aluded to.

Brother Seamus,
~the guard give a big smile~ Thank you kind sir! My name is Gunner. If there is anything that I can do, please feel free to ask for me.
You and Kael please roll a spot check again. Beat a 15.

Kael and Brother Seamus,
After the guards leave, you look up and spot a black bird pirched on the roof of one of the houses nearby. The bird looks at you with its beady black eyes and then you hear "caw, caw" followed by the bird flapping away~

Priapus |

"Servant?" Looking perplexed. "No, Sir, not at all! If anything, it is I who is your customer. Say, have you any talents.. other than the acquisition of information?"
"I am a singer of songs, a teller of stories, and; if need be, a wielder or weapons and caster of spells"
"and servant, my dear sir, is an expression I have picked up from my travels to the east."

Merian Benvalla |

:)
"Oh. Thank you." Idiah is startled at the entrance of the maid. There seem to be a lot of people coming and going from her sick-room. Still, she's glad that her armor has been repaired...hopefully at no cost.
I think I'll wait until Merian decides what she wants to do about further helping me heal before I make a move. I don't want to end up injured further if I venture down to the tavern. I know what those places can get like
Sorry - the speed that this thread moves at is rather astonishing to me, though I guess we'll see if it maintains it...
Merian notices Idiah's hand when she tries to cover it, but says nothing, and indeed, there is little to suggest it strikes her as particularly important. Instead, once the maid is gone, Merian takes both Idiah's hands in hers, wrapping them around the symbol of Iomedae Merian wears around her neck. "The strength of Your grace fall upon this woman," she whispers, and Idiah feels warmth and strength flowing into her once more.
Idiah will recover an additional 11 hit points over the next minute and change, which should get back up to full and then some.
Once she has had a moment to recover herself, Merian asks Idiah, "Would you be interested in food and drink? The common room is a fairly congenial place, if you like that sort of thing, and it seems a shame to waste... Priapus'?... gold. And perhaps you could tell me about who attacked you, and where, and when? It seems something should be done about these lawbreakers."
