I think maybe it's just that this year I'm more in touch with the world, and so I recognize more names. Either that or I'm completely crazy and don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that many of them died because:

1) They were old
2) They were terminally ill
3) They were drug abusers

That said, it's really not all that surprising, now that I think about it...
