I was just looking through my Necromancer Games Tome of Artifacts, and came across the Petrified God.

It hit me, There's no conformation that Aroden's dead, in canon is there? I mean I know the entry in Gods and Magic state that Pharisma knew of his coming death, but that could be religions propganda, right?

I was just wondering if the Petrified God would work as Aroden in Pathfinder.

I think it might better fit the nature of Aroden's disappearance for there to not be a confirmed location for his body, or even a real confirmation of his death (since he could just be exiled, or writhing inside Rovagug's sarlacc-tummy, where he'll be digested over a 1000 years, or otherwise incommunicado).

That being said, there is plenty of room for a 'petrified god' to be found somewhere (preferably somewhere out of the way, like deep in the Mwangi expanse, or hidden away in some creepy Ustalavan mountain pass), worshipped by cultists who may or may not have any idea who this 'god' once was. Perhaps they have Clerics, who secretly get their powers from a demon or devil who is deceiving them as to the nature of this 'god.' Perhaps they merely have Adepts, who pray to the great stone face, but he never answers.

I found a poster ages ago, of a castle built on the back of a kneeling petrified man of enormous size. I ended up incorporating into my Realms campaign a series of 'fallen gods' that were enormous statues of men and women in postures of defeat (one buried in Chult, only it's head and upthrust arm visible, etc.) of entities that had once challenged the gods, and been cast down and petrified as punishment. I kind of love the idea of 'dead gods' who aren't sleeping entirely peacefully...

Impatient, impertinent humans. I'm just on a two-century vacation. I'll be back in no time, and then, the time of My Ascension will be at hand, barely behind schedule.

Maybe he's not dead. Don't be so pessimistic. He's going to have a two month beta test for worshippers only in a scaled back form from his original promise of a major Ascendency thing -a Deific Initiative if you will- and then an open beta for all the other humans on Golarion in the hopes of getting them to start worshipping him too and sending souls his way. And even though he still seems hopelessly dead, his few remaining priests will keep promising that new and awesome stuff from him that was promised centuries ago is coming "very soon". ;)

The promises my priests are making made many worshippers give me their souls already, sight unseen. Delicious, this race of mine!

And the very soon is so true. It's not my fault if mortals have a skewed perspective and impatient definitions of what very soon means!

The new contracts for other deities to use my temples is coming soon. I can't tell you when, or what's in it, but it's going to be very good! Would these god-eyes lie?
