That's still very possible, thom
There's a bar in town called 'the conqueror's blade' that is actually where most of the town's guards kick up. If you wanted to make friends, it would be possible there, for sure. It's also a place that I think Guligak would feel a little more comfortable...

Cool. That sounds like the kind of place I'd like to visit. Get the low-down on the situation at the castle, make some friends. There's more than one way to reconnoiter ...
Also, going through town, Jon would be looking at the defenses. (I gave him a couple skill ranks in engineering) It would be nice to have a few pointers on where his people have let things slip when we meet the baron or his deputy. Or even just to compliment them on how tight security looks.

Wow, glad I finally read the spoilers. Because I'd stepped out of the bar to go to the stables I didn't read the first spoilered post where Dahn told me about them. Usually, I don't read spoilers, not because I can't separate my knowledge from PC knowledge, but because it increases the tension and makes it more fun for me. In this case, I figured most of these would be more charcter building and interaction than secret knowledge. They were fun.
Getting into the castle. Seems to me the easiest way is to get a job there. Once in, or if we can't get hired, a secret passage could be very useful.

In light of my worry that people may be missing out on things (me as well, losing track of things under a cut), I've taken to not putting things under spoilers, but using a bold title to discern where and when things are taking place. Do people prefer this new method? Or would they rather have things secret.
thom, i know you mentioned you like not knowing what is happening elsewhere. I don't mind changing it back, I just wanted to try it briefly!
And i hope the town is coming a bit more alive for you all!

therealthom |

How did we get to this point? I'm a bit confused
Friday Guligak posted he would drag everyone to the Smaar's after the meal. So as not to hold up the game, I posted "at the bar" and "at the smith's". ANd away we went. I'd imagine you can still post back in time at the bar.
Dahn, with regards to spoilers. You may do them however you like. Either way works for me.

Well my DMing experience here has put me off the idea of spoilering stuff the player is just going to repeat to the party anyway.Secret stuff though like detect magic results that they might not want to tell everyone about I keep hidden
Thom..that's how she looks when she's.err..working..and yes I do know its the Shelyn avatar. You don't want your 'girlfriend' looking like a goddess..shame on you
LOL

Fair enough; I'll find a groove that suits us all.
A side note, I smashed my computer today, and most of my notes (including my pdf copy of Tower of the Last Baron) are currently inaccessible. I'm going to try and salvage my HDD tomorrow.
Sorry for the lameness everyone!

Good point about what spoilers for what the players will just tell anyway.
As for Andy, I expect she'll look like that all the time when she's running the keep. But for now its not a very 'working girl' look, may 'upper management' girl ....

Thank Abadar my files are safe! I have access to them again; I've mounted my laptop's hard-drive into an external unit, and can access my stuff through USB. I still don't have a reliable connection, but at least my notes, maps, and pdf still exist!
Now, to catch up while I have a computer to use, briefly!

Hogarth,
I like this discussion. When Guligak turned out so barbarian, I decided to give Jon a "King Arthur" take on war and fighting. I hoped we get into something like this, contrasting Guligak's visceral faith against Jon's more "civilized", intellectual approach.

![]() |

I think it's inevitable, once you get into the whole 'combat' thing. I'm certainly envisioning Jon having to hold Guligak back, in some capacity in the future.
I really like the contrast myself. There's also an interesting dynamic between the two female casters, though I should admit that DMing this game has made it more difficult to flesh Rose out.
And we all love Bumbo, right?

Pffft. Fighting is about kicking ass and chopping off heads. End of story. >:-)

somehow, when i read this, I saw "kicking ass and chopping off beards", and I was about to respond to that with "what about fighting wimmin without beards?"
I was going to say "kicking guys in the balls" instead of "kicking ass", but I realised that that would unfairly exclude the fairer sex.

I'm not too sure about Bumbo, he might screwup Jon's plan to become a wealthy landholder.
As for holding Guligak back, I'm not sure its possible. But I'd only want to hold him until the combat starts. Then give him his head. I'm sure he'll be hell on wheels.

Sorry guys!
Crash-mas is here, and I'm busier than anticipated. I'm travelling all around, and I didn't intend to, so I won't be able to update for several days! I'll let you know as soon as I get back!
OK. Thanks for the heads up. I hope your travel goes well and you can get home by Christmas.

AVENGERS, ASSEMBLE!
Do they still use that line anymore?
Before Jon marched up to the gate, the tunnel seemed to be the majority's preference. What's the meta-game consensus, try the tunnel or guard duty? I figure a meta-game conversation will go way faster than in character.
I personally will role-play forever given a chance, but if you guys want to try cutting our way in, I'll go along. Jon can become despondent over the probability of getting promoted into the castle and throw in for the tunnel plan. He is a team player.
Of course there's a couple more things to settle if we go for guard duty. Where will we be billeted? Inside the castle? And can we get Pae and Andy in with us? I'm happy to try to negotiate both points.
Point is I don't want to hold the RL group hostage to my (and Jon's) preferences.
EDIT: Ninjaed by the DM. Cool.

therealthom |

Dahn, did you mean to post this in the game thread?
"Yes, let's discuss the matter further. I think even given the chance to speak to the guards alone tonight in a position of authority over them, will be beneficial even if we make our move tomorrow morning."

![]() |

Nope, I just wasn't sure if you wanted to continue the discussion of the matter IC or not. If it's in character, Rose (and I) can offer input. If it's metagaming, I can simply nod (and heckle), without adding too much.
I know how things will work out either way! But that's my job!
EDIT: But I see how you plan to run things. You probably won't get billeted in the castle, but you could probably arrange for Pae and Andrea to follow you wherever you get stuck. Pae has made some progress at Shenks (it's just that he might not know it).
Are any of you familiar with the adventure, by the way? I don't think I remember what we all wrote when we signed on for this game.

I'm glad you see how we plan to run things. I sure don't. We'll see what the other players think.
I've reduced my hopes to being billeted in the castle, though from your post that doesn't sound likely either. If we had been, I'd have liked to make sure Andy and Pae are with us.
I don't know the adventure. I read the advertisement when it came out; thought it sounded cool. That's all.

Ok guys, I really hate to do this. My life is slightly impossible right now, and I can't have the PBPs looming over my head. I thought I could keep these going, but evidently it's too much. I can't find the time to update, and I'm running around as it is!
But I really love this game, and you guys, and I don't want to throw it away. I can foresee a time in the future where I'll have some time to myself again, however.
So what I would like to propose is a suspension of indeterminate length of this game. I still have lots of ideas, plans, and schemes for you, but I don't have the time to bust them out now.
I'll understand if you're done with the game at this point, but if you're around, I'll be sure to give you all a heads-up when I start it again!
I just want to make it clear that it has nothing to do with any of you; you're awesome, I'm not. This is the sound of the ball dropping.

*YAWN!*
Whoa! That was a long nap! Feels pretty good to be up and stretching my bones!
*CRACK*
Err...Well, I'm back, at any rate. (haw haw)
Now seriously folks; we left this game on pause as a 'just in case' I came back and had some time to run the game again. Well, consider this the official "I'm back and if you are too, I have all my old notes and maps still and I'd like to press 'play' again" post!
I'm going to post it here and in the game threads, give me a shout if you'd like to start it up again. We'll gauge interest, and if you people are still around, we'll go from there!
