4E Iconics-Are There Any?

4th Edition

Dark Archive

My one big complaint with 4e is that I really don't see any iconic characters like we became used to with 3e and Pathfinder. Do they exist and I'm just missing them? Am i the only one who thinks this is an issue? Will Woody reach Jessie and Stinky Pete in time? ;>

Well, there's that dragonborn guy, that tiefling chick, and the dwarf.

There are three character examples found at the beginning of each class section. I wonder if those are the iconic characters mentioned.

All I can say is 'good' that there aren't any - my players' characters are the heroes, not some writer's idea of what makes a 'cool' character.

There are still pictures of Regdar, the Iconic Human Fighter from 3.0/3.5 in the 4e books (and he's still getting the crap kicked out of him regularly as well). Don't really remeber any other old ones, but I didn't pay that much attention to it.

I agree with this opinion, let the heroes create the Icon. The DM creates a few of his own but including the iconic 'Bad' guys but the players become the new Icons.

That's how most of the Icon Characters were created...Mordenkeinen, Rary, Bigby were all PC's before Icons so why not start again.

I agree too. This is the reason I believe the Pathfinder iconics at the back of each issue of Pathfinder to be pages of wasted space.

I actually rather like the way 4E went about it - they have a number of little references to former iconics scattered throughout the books (among the suggested names, in various pictures, etc), but had no specific iconics that were the central point of the edition.

Except, perhaps, for our friend, our monster, the Gnome.

I recall reading somewhere that they intentionally decided not to have iconics for 4E because their artists got sick of drawing the same characters over and over. Or at least, partly because of that. I'm pretty sure most of the Regdar art (and other similar depictions of 3E iconics) are because they recycled a bunch of 3E art.

I was seriously disapointed when there was no mention of a badger minion in the Gnome entry. ;p
