Like Mana from heaven. I am about to start RoTRL with a big long weekend of gaming with 6 or 7 PC's so this is a great help. I particularly like your additional developments. Just bullet form is enough to give some helpful guidance.

But who is Bunkel and did you change goblin commandos?

My group is pretty 'efficient' and we may get on to Skinsaw so the sooner you get this up the better.

- I know it's skinsaw but I have compared Iesha to Aldern and it seems that if the pc's step aside she will just kick his butt.

Thanks again.

The bullets just work great for me i laminate them and take them to the game and use wet erase pens on them to keep track of things

Bunkel was the Thiseltop Goblins tourtuerer that was killed in the raid I just wanted to add him to the combat. He is a 1st level fighter 1st level rogue (with 6 players to get them enough exp an extra cr 2 really helps i think)

Im still prepping to run my game so please let me know how it goes so if i need to make changes

• The Lord Mayor offers each of the Heroes of Magnimar 1 item out of the Magnimar Treasury worth 20,000 Gp or less for saving Turtleback Ferry and retaking Fort Rannick
• If the PCs go back to Sandport they are very much the heroes of the area

Like Mana from heaven. I am about to start RoTRL with a big long weekend of gaming with 6 or 7 PC's so this is a great help. I particularly like your additional developments. Just bullet form is enough to give some helpful guidance.

But who is Bunkel and did you change goblin commandos?

My group is pretty 'efficient' and we may get on to Skinsaw so the sooner you get this up the better.

- I know it's skinsaw but I have compared Iesha to Aldern and it seems that if the pc's step aside she will just kick his butt.

Thanks again.

So how did this work for you guys hope it helped ill be starting on The Stone Giants tuesday

The Exchange

I have a question, Virtue. What type of houserules do you use, what books do you allow and what type of Character Gen rules do you use?
I want to make sure of the 'level' of your game before applying this to my upcoming campaign.
Thanks.

Here are my house rules We are very hard core combat characters

We roll characters 4d6 re roll 1s drop the lowest

Background Skills
Characters start out with an extra 3 ranks of any single Knowledge, Craft, or Profession skill, or 2 ranks of any two such skills, if desired. These extra allocations work with the character’s background to help flesh out the PC.

Hit Points
Characters start first level with max hit points any time a character rolls new hit points they can take half of the max dice roll instead of rolling the dice, players can also roll for themselves and if they don’t like there roll have the DM roll for them.

Hit Dice Change
Hit dice for core classes (and most Prestige Classes) will now be directly tied to their base attack bonus progression (barbarians are the exception)

Slow Base Attack D6s
Standard Base Attack D8s
Fast Base Attack D10s

Extra Feats
Characters gain two additional bonus feats at first level.
.
Maximum Starting Gold
All characters begin play with the maximum possible gold for their 1st level class rather than rolling for it.

Move Silently and Hide now Sneak
In these rules, Move Silently and Hide are combined into one skill, called Sneak. When ever you are trying to use either Move Silently or Hide, or both the skills you roll a sneak check. The DCs are the same as Move Silently and Hide. This skill costs two skill ranks per rank.

Spot and Listen now Perception
In these rules, Spot and Listen are combined into one skill, called Perception. When ever you are trying to use either Spot of Listen or both you roll a Perception check. The DCs are the same as Spot and Listen. This skill costs two skill ranks per rank.

Toughness
Benefit: You gain +3 hit points plus 1 hit point per Hit Die. Every time you gain a level or gain Hit Dice, you gain +1 hit points

Wizards and Sorcerers Familiar
Wizards and Sorcerers may choose not to take a familiar and get a bonus feat (only at first level)

Wizards Scribe Scroll
Wizards may choose not to take scribe scroll and get a bonus feat (only at first level)

Cleric Weapon Proficiency
Clerics gain proficiency in their Deity's Favored Weapon at first level.

Dodge (General, Fighter)
Prerequisite: Dex 13
Benefit: You receive a +1 dodge bonus to your Armor Class (Not just against one enemy) a condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to your Armor Class also makes you lose your dodge bonuses. Also dodge bonuses stack with each other

Drawing an Item
Any character who can draw a weapon as a part of a move can draw anything reasonable (a wand, potion, etc.) as a part of move

Critical Fumbles
If a character rolls a 1 on an attack roll and fails to confirm the character will consult there roll to this chart
20 No effect
19-15 Loses all attacks for the rest of the round
14-10 Loses all attacks for the rest of the round and falls prone
9-6 Loses all attacks for the rest of the round and falls prone and drops weapon
5-2 Loses all attacks for the rest of the round and falls prone and drops weapon and does max
Weapon damage and all modifiers to your self, and do sunder damage to your weapon
1 Loses all attacks for the rest of the round and falls prone and drops weapon and does A critical hit to your self and do double sunder damage on your weapon

Disabled, Dying, and Dead
Characters no longer necessarily die at –10 hit points, as in the Core Rules, Instead, If the character’s hit points drop to a negative number lower than 10 plus there Constitution modifier, the character is dead. A character also can die from taking massive damage or after suffering ability damage or drain that reduces his Constitution to 0

Instant Death
If a character rolls 3 20s in a row on an attack the victim of the attack dies instantly. If a character rolls 3 1s in a row on an attack the attacker dies. (Character must be vulnerable to instant death)

Fumbled Saving throws
If a character rolls a 1 on a saving throw and the character takes double damage or effect from the spell.

Identifying Magic Items
Characters can use Craft (alchemy) to identify potions at no cost: just a taste. The Difficulty Class is 15 + the item’s caster level.
PCs can attempt to identify any magic item by casting detect magic and making a Knowledge (arcana) check. The Difficulty Class is 20 + the item’s caster level.
These are for a very baseline identification of the item.
This formula, however, is subject to the approval of the DM—he may rule that some items are easier or harder to identify than others. A ring might have secret sigils inscribed on the interior of the band that hint at its true nature, if only you could find them. A +1 sword might be the simplest thing in the world to spot. A staff of power might hide its nature until certain conditions are met. Standard retries of both the Craft and Knowledge checks are not allowed. However, a character who devotes a full day to examining an item may take 20 on the check.

Zero Level Spells
Spell casters can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day. They can cast these spells at will as a spell-like ability. The number of cantrips a spell caster can prepare each day is the number of Zero level spells they can usually cast. Cantrips are treated like any other spell cast by the wizard in terms of duration and other variables based on level.

I'm still transferring my houserules into a digital format and will probably start the Path in a month or so. I will post houserules once I finish them up totally. Mostly I am cobbling together some extra feats and equipment and such. I am hoping to finish the rules this weekend.

I'm just starting HMM this week, and I do have 6 PCs, so I will certainly have a look at your work and use it at least partially.

So far, the only changes I have made to the adventure are to slightly bump up some of the Grauls (+1 char level here and there, somewhat better equipment, making one of them a Combat Trapsmith), as well as add another member of the family, Lannan Graul

Spoiler:
He's a tough guy, Ftr 3/Bar 3/Rng 3, fighting with 2 battleaxes, one of them a a Large one thanks to his oversized right arm

I'll post about this later on! Thanks for your work!

I have run Burnt Offerings with some of your changes. I would recommend against 4 yeth hounds in the temple of Lahmashtu. My group cleared out the top level easily but the hounds hammered them. 4 Will saves sent half the party running for home- combined with the hounds high ac and damage reduction was not pretty.

Although it did give rise to a genius comic moment as they came out of the fear just as they all ran on to the dodgy rope bridge....

I'm using some of these ideas for my Burnt Offerings game this week with the Savage Worlds game system. Mostly just adding in extra mooks for the PCs to fight since Savage Worlds doesn't use levels or hit points.

I'm running a party of 5 gestalt characters at the moment, and we're at the end of Burnt Offerings now (all the baddies have been beaten, and the party is cleaning out Thistletop).

I'm going to be using your notes for the aftermath of Burnt Offerings (i.e. escorting Tsuto to Magnimar for trial, since they took him alive, as well as Lyrie), and then digging into them fully for The Skinsaw Murders and beyond. I think the changes will give them a better challenge, and help build the feeling of continuity between the adventures.

Great stuff - thanks for sharing these with us! :)

I am really enjoying what you have done to Sins of the Saviors to make it more challenging though you may have gone a bit too far in making the place dangerous. I know my players are going to have problems. <eg>

IF death is not around every corner at high levels why play

The Exchange

Just had another player join up for my game, now up to 6. Can't wait to start.

Just wanted to say that I love how you tossed in all the active spells info for the NPCs/Monsters in the descriptions. It makes it real easy to track what is going on with the dude.
You Rock! I can't wait to toss back some feedback.

Every so often it is nice to just be the biggest bad-ass on the block. But generally I'd agree you should be challenged.

Silver Crusade

I have seven players going through burnt offering right now, and they were breezing through. I am going to try your changes today as they takle the catacomb of wrath. Than you for sharing this, it made prep a ton easier, and I'll let you know how it turned out.

Silver Crusade

Well, my players wiped the floor with the sinspawn, however in the cathedral, the quasit almost took them all out. With his high AC, they were having a terrible time hitting him, then when they did, his DR prevented them from doing much damage. His channel (We are playing pathfinder beta) was hitting them hard, and the cleric only having 1d6 healing compared to the 2d6 damage could not keep up. In the end they grappled him, and beat him with a crowbar the thief had handy. It was a close thing though.

<Off-topic warning!>

That tale reminds me of how my group handled the mephit in the first WotC module, The Sunless Citadel (back in 3.0). Sleep spell, tied it up, and then kept on hitting it with a battleaxe while it was helpless. I think that my NG wizard's alignment suffered from that event - or was it also because I was involved in coup de grace'ing the sleeping hobgoblins? :)

LOL, yea, they were shocked at how much pathfinder boosted the power of him with just channel energy. One kep saying, "We almost got wiped by a familliar?!?" I thoguht the challenge level was perfect, though I would have like to have seen the sin spawn be a bit more of a challenge.

• Create Yellow Musk Zombie (Su): A victim reduced to Intelligence 0 becomes a yellow musk zombie in 1 hour under the control of the creeper that created it. If the yellow musk creeper is slain before the yellow musk zombie rises, the transformation can be prevented by the casting of neutralize poison followed by heal or restoration spell.
• Intelligence Damage (Ex): As a free action, a yellow musk creeper can insert hundreds of tiny roots into the head of an entranced foe within any space occupied by the creeper. An entranced foe does not resist this attack and does not receive a saving throw to break free of its entranced state. This attack deals 1d6 points of Intelligence damage each round. A victim reduced to Intelligence 0 becomes a yellow musk zombie in 1 hour (see that entry in this book).
• Pollen Spray (Ex): A yellow musk creeper can spray a tiny cloud of hypnotic pollen at a single creature within 30 feet. An opponent hit by the cloud must succeed on a DC 34 Fortitude save or be entranced for 1d4 minutes (as by a charm monster spell). Entranced creatures can take no action other than to move at their normal speed into a space occupied by the yellow musk creeper. An entranced creature resists any attempt to halt its progress. A victim within a space occupied by the yellow musk creeper stands there and offers no resistance to the monster’s attacks. The save DC is Constitution-based.
• Blindsight (Ex): The yellow musk creeper has no visual organs but can ascertain all foes within 30 feet using sound, scent, and vibration.
• Rejuvenation (Ex): A yellow musk creeper can be killed only if its root is dug up, then burned, hacked apart, or otherwise destroyed. Reducing the creeper to 0 or less hit points puts it out of commission, allowing excavation of its roots. The main root is a large object with a hardness of 8 and 1200 hit points. The root can be affected by spells or effects that affect an area or targeted by spells that affect an individual target. As long as the root remains intact, a yellow musk creeper regrows in about 2 weeks.

This returns it to the plant’s maw, where another successful grapple check is needed to get free. A swallowed creature can also cut its way out by using a light slashing or piercing weapon to deal 25 points of damage to the Tendriculos’s interior (AC 14). I like it. Karzoug is tough to figure out what to do with. Do you have the Advanced Bestiary by Green Ronin? I think adding an appropriate template from there for him to boost him would do more than just adding some levels or something. I may toss in a Red Sundew from MM2 in the plant area and maybe an Orcwort tree just because I love using them and almost never get a chance.

You do an amazing job on this stuff. Thanks for all your hard work.

I was thinking of a very evil thing to do with him that after 5 rounds after his defeat come back will all spells and HP untill they destroy the Soul Lens or maybe come back with his spells he has cast active or somthing

Interesting. "Whew! We beat him! Now let loot the....what the hell?!? Oh no, he's moving!" Roll initiative again.

I think him coming back at full strength would be a bit much but maybe he replenishes 1d4 spells per spell level and gets 3/4 of his HP back with all active spells at his death still in effect. Hmmm.

Scarab Sages

Awesome thread.

I started last night with 6 characters and a backup player/DM aide.

I want to make it more challenging for the characters. I wanted to play woth 4 PCs but due to popular demand I have too many players.

I am not going to increase the CR ratings on basic encounters or event the big set ones unless the PCs desire it.

I am planning to make up the short fall of XP woth side adventures, notably some gamemastery modules that are linked and small dungeon crawls. This will help slow the cash flow problem I am developing in purchasing all the books.

Great work on these adaptions. I look forward to implementing them.

Most of this stuff will have enough Exp I think for 6 players this will be a solid challenge

Scarab Sages
