Thoughts on the Space Dragons?

So, I know most dragon-enthusiasts are focused right now on Pathfinder's Dragonic Codex, but I think it bares mentioning that Alien Core gave Starfinder some of it's first space-based dragons!

So yeah, thoughts on the Abysium, Akashic, Cosmic, and Host Dragons?

Host dragon is delightfully gross, and I am absolutely going to use it against my players at some point (Letting me say the sentence "alright, so the dragon's going to use its Covered in Bugs reaction" is pretty great - genuinely impressed at how evocative the names for abilities are in this book!).

I was a little surprised that the abysium is an arcane dragon, because MC1 was talking up "skymetal dragon" in a way that made me think that was a primal-only category, but I really do like the Cartoon Radiation Dragon, and it's ability to mess with what damage types it deals is a fun trick. Also like the ability to supercharge it's breath weapon - I'm picturing some Monster Hunter-esque chargeup animation there.

Akashics are also fun - the ability to "eat" knowledge about a creature by biting them is a fun trick, and their RK-focused toolkit is both thematic and makes a fight with them feel unusual. Also, they look like a Metroid boss, and I mean that as a sincere compliment.

Honestly I like all of the new dragons (Cosmic Dragon, you are literally a giant lizard Solarian and I love that), and I really really hope we get some Space Dragonblooded rules in Galactic Ancestries!

I think evocative ability names are one of Starfinder 2e's strongest points.

I will always laugh at the 1/3 of Soldier feats based on Schwarzenegger movie quotes.

I like the Abysium, Akashic, and Cosmic dragons; they all fit into Starfinder easily.

Now Host Dragons, that scare me if they hook up with the Swarm. That's one of the interesting things about Host dragons: you can easily mod them just by changing what they host.

I'm biased, but I think they're all pretty cool.

I just noticed that Akashic dragons are immune to stupefied, that's a nice touch.

Akashic Interference. What happens when an Akashic dragon joins the Order of the Eclips...

The Host Dragon makes me think slightly of Zinogre from Monster Hunter, actually.
Well, that and Shino from Naruto, obviously.
I also imagine that the number one victims of Host Dragons are researchers who tried to understand them.

Cosmic Dragons feel like the opposite of Hans Brackhaus...

Abysium Dragons make me think of Kuro from (if you've watched/read) Restaurant to Another World.

I imagine the best way to anger an Akashic Dragon is to ask them to, "What happened during the Gap"? Because I imagine that not even the Akashic Record has details about the Gap.

I feel like that would fall apart quickly. Mostly because Akashic Dragons hoard knowledge, while Eclipse censors (and probably alters) information. Wouldn't be surprised if Akashic Dragons are compelled to record "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you Yluma".

I really enjoy the akashic dragon. Host dragon was what I was most looking forward to from the name, but the end result was... I guess I would say, a little too cartoony compared to what the name conjured up.

I don't think of Akashic dragons as hoarding information; the Akashic Record is the hoard, the Akashic dragons are just really good at accessing and using that information, or in the case of Akashic Interference, interfering with others accessing it. They might hoard some physical sources of knowledge, but that would pale compared to the Akashic Record.

I don't see anything that says Akashic dragons think truth is power; they seem to be about knowledge is power. How each Akashic dragon uses that knowledge could be very different. One nice thing about getting rid of alignments is that you can just look at a dragon and know its motives.

I could see an Akashic dragon using hellknights to help them control or restrict others from using knowledge.

I could also see hellknights tricking an Akashic dragon to work for them through a deceptive contract.

Eh, I disagree.

The books describe Akashic Dragons as "curators" of knowledge, which would make them protectors or guardians of knowledge.
Then again, it might be that I view censorship of information as a form of destruction/corruption of knowledge.
Of course, that doesn't mean I think the Akashic Dragons are going to share any of that knowledge either.

I don't know, I imagine the Akashic Dragons, like Wan Shi Tong (that Owl Librarian Spirit from Avatar the Last Airbender)... but even less friendly.

I also imagine that Hellknights trying that contract trick would end about this well:
Akashic Dragon: *reads the fine print and all the clauses* "I see..." *Proceeds to burn the contract with laser knowledge vision* "Nice try."

I agree that the way you are describing Akashic Dragons is how most of them would be like; however, there's no right answer here. An Akashic Dragon will behave very differently if it's a friendly NPC, a neutral NPC, or (very rarely) the Big Boss monster. Also, where they are from could make a big difference; an Akashic Dragon in the Azlanti star empire might be the curator of the department of propaganda's library of disinformation, known to the public as the Library of Truth.

Hellknights trying the contract trick, likely wouldn't write the contract themself but would call upon the highest level lawyers from hell to do so, and would likely be in a contract so long it would take years to read, and other efforts would be made to distract the dragon during the reading of the contract. Here, the people pulling this off would be the Boss monster.

The Akashic Dragon I'd personally like to hang out with is the one in charge of the Library of Galactic Music.

I had another thought on Akashic Dragons: the type of information available at the location they curate could reflect or influence the Akashic Dragons' personality. Some libraries or museums are very specific about the subject they cover.

I can't wait for more dragons.

Like a Cyberdragon (Arcane) a dragon that chose to have it's conciousness and soul digitized and put into a machine body. with an electric breath.

A mutant Dragon, (primal) who's breath weapon is EITHER Poison, Acid, Fire, or Piercing, which is determined every time the breath weapon is recharged.

Do electric dragons dreams of digital hordes?

The Cyberdragon's horde could be data (Digital hordes) or even cybernetic enhancements/augments allowing them to change out an ability mid fight.

No. They dream of...

Getting their game on!

Well, Galactic Ancestries will have rules for making any ancestry a robot, so you'll be able to be a robot dragonet and dragonkin.

was very disappointed by the lack of scifi linnorm

cosmic dragon look nice

pretty sure some kind of digital dragon will be coming eventually

The true test will be whether you can mount a giant freaking laser on your head or not; that was the robotic dragon's shtick. Dunno why, but I loved having there be dragons with guns for faces.
