Drivish is at the "I could go one more fight" stage, which normally turns out poorly. If Lafiel, or anybody else, wants to take an extended rest I'm for it too.

As far as I know, there is still a rope hanging into the sinkhole, so yes to the first part. There won't be much dry wood, though, so smoky fire.

Where exactly are you camping? The sinkhole? The "chapel"? Above-ground?

Well, we've got to take into account a possible zain-kin ambush. The chapel is probably more defensible. But on the other hand they could trap us in here. My opinion is that we should camp in the chapel. It would be difficult to set up in the marsh.

Let's do the chapel. There are 2 entrances, making it defensible and giving us a back door out.

After waking up and getting ready for another tiresome day, Lafiel offers: "I could scout down the second tunnel now. Should be easier if we know what we're going in to. If Fargrim or Drivish want to lead though - feel free."

Lafiel quietly makes her way down the tunnel. Sunrod?

The cave wends vaguely southeast from the shrine, until it forks after about 25'. The left fork twists to the southeast before bending back up to the north; the right fork goes south, then east. The tunnel is damp -- this is a living cavern.

The shrine was south of the sinkhole, which was on the land mass on the south side of the swamp.

I'll light a sunrod today. And I'll hold it so that Lafiel can have 10 squares of shadowy light.

The caves twist so much that you'd have to get right up behind her to help her much.

Light cantrip. She'll be able to see a bit with that. Not as good as a sunrod, but easier to hide if she has to.

Lafiel walks back to the group, describing the tunnel and the fork in it. "There is a fork with two other caverns. One of them ultimately leads back north, probably back to the swamp, while the other one leads south. I'm not sure, but I think the north one probably ends back in that horrible swamp cave, while the south one is probably the way deeper in this forsaken place. We'll keep going south, right ?"

If the group agrees, Lafiel will bring everyone to the fork, then sneak into the south tunnel while using Rin's light spell (but hiding it so the light is very dim).

After another 20' (including the bend to the east), the tunnel forks again, north or south. There is the sound of a light waterflow to the south.

"South it is."

Rin ambles along, enthralled by the strange shadows and the promise of both ancient magic and sudden doom.

Lafiel returns again to the group: "Another fork. North or South again. I did hear a distant sound of flowing water to the south."

After saying that, Lafiel leads the group to the next fork, and scouts down the south tunnel.

"I wonder what she's found this time."

Rin looks happily expectant.

"Death and destruction, no doubt!" Qadim-sul mutters. "Which is what we're here for, after all. I say enough of this sneaking around. If they're scrying on us, it's a lost cause anyways. Who's with me?"

[Drivish Ammasin]

"As far as they've said, nobody has felt the scrying in some time. And I for one, would prefer as much advance knowledge as possible. So, I vote to let Lafiel do her thing."

By all means, let Lafiel go ahead. Qadim-sul is just bored; he doesn't actually want to go off by himself and scout! :)

After a short distance south, the tunnel widens -- a spring of sorts on one side. The water, however, must be from the swamp. It reeks. A stream of fetid swamp water courses down the center of the corridor (further south). You hear the distinct sound from that direction of water falling.
