Pathfinder RPG Beta Updates or Feedback?

Announcements

Given that playtesting and discussion of the Pathfinder Beta might result in some changes, I am wondering if there will be any updates as to what was changed in what section. This would enable us to playtest the new rules too. I am thinking in particular to the Barbarian rage power system, that was changed experimentally (from a good system to an even better system IMO), but we don't know whether it was actually changed ultimately. I am not saying that we need to be given a PDF of the changes, but it would be nice to have some kind of feedback, even as much as: 'Yes, the Barbarian rage power system was changed to the always-on rage powers'.

I think that Jason said that they did plan on having some announcement about that kind of thing, but that there isn't any schedule yet.

I suspect that while the playtest continues, we'll be doing updates here and there. I highly doubt we'll release a "Here's the final decision" type preview though; once the playtest is closed, we'll be using all of that data to inform our decisions for the final product but that'll all happen in-house.

Thanks for the answer. I did not mean to imply that you should somehow release the full rules - but while playtesting is going on, it could at least be indicated what it the current standing of certain ideas, such as the new barbarian rage system.

Also, a lot of changes made at this stage in the playtest could make a huge difference when it comes time to playtest high-level play. To produce meaningful results, that part of the playtest in particular will require testers to know the exact rules being used.

Hey there all,

We will be releasing some of the rules, as needed to make sure that we get solid playtest results. The revised barbarian rage mechanic is one example of this, and there are more on the way. We have decided against releasing every small change to the rules, due to the fact that we want to avoid confusion and to make sure that everyone is working off the same rules set.

More to come soon.

Jason,

please release the changes in a printer-friendly form. Graphics heavy stuff to print for the purpose just making handouts for players is a bit tough on toners and paper.

I hope this is the right place to put this. If not someone, please someone help this poor lost soul.

I love Pathfinder RPG. I also like the 3.5 DMG portion with the trap examples. It is so nice to thumb to the several pages of ready-made traps with CR's. I like that Pathfinder put some higher CR's in there. BUT....can you guys put more examples in? You know, like the DMG has? I know the book is getting thick, but I think it would go a long way to making quick-on-the-fly prep faster.

Thanks

Is there a place to note errors found in the PDF? For example, the spell description for Atonement is missing. There is a "Designer Notes" comment about the Atonement spell on p.206 but on p.201 the listings skip from Arcane Sight, Greater to Augury.

On page 170 (spell lists) it says: "An s appearing at the end of a spell's name denotes that the spell's full description is not included in this book. This spell can be found in the 3.5 system reference document (SRD) or as part of the Pathfinder RPG Beta Web Enhancement, available for free at Paizo.com"

Atonement is one of those spells

Good stuff - particularly if the revised Barbarian rage mechanic is the quality of revision we can expect - well done on that one.

Where can one see this "revised" mechanic? Is this in a post somewhere on the boards that I just can't find?

I would just like to say that if changes are made, at least create a "sticky" that shows these changes on the boards until they are released in a pdf update or however they are going to be released. That way we could quickly look at the class playtest forums and figure out what has been changed and what hasn't.

The new Barbarian Rage mechanics can be found here: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/design/barbarianFighterRanger/designFocusAlternateRageSystem

(Sorry if the link does not work - just copy and paste it into the command line, as I cannot link on these boards.)

And this is precisely what I mean - many people are simply not going to notice them, unless they follow the playtest as actively as those of us who do so, but we are surely a small minority of those interested in the Pathfinder RPG and even we don't know what mechanic is currently in vogue at Paizo - whether the old one or the new one.

Fixed the link for you. Also, I was under the impression that that was just Jason's most recent ideas, and aren't finalized. Although he indicated near the end of that thread that he would probably use a system like that, it might not be that system exactly. Has there been an update since then?
