Birthright in 4E - Introducing PHB races & Classes

I've been thinking about how you would go about introducing the phb races into Birthright. Just a few one line ideas.

Tieflings: I was thinking descendents of Adurian Nobles who had after Azrai's fall descended into bargaining with devils. Essentially rewriting the core Bael Turath story to relocate it to Aduria. Also allows a convenient place to intro Warlocks, more on classes later though.

Dragonborn: Not really sure but was thinking that you could have Dragonborn be from across the Suidemiere, a small colonial group. Sucky idea really but drawing a blank. Another idea might be that Cerilia's dying dragons take a stab at leaving something behind by breeding a "lesser" race.

Eladrin: In the spirit of simplicity I would rule that the Eladrin had always been there, perhaps Sidhelien of noble blood are a bit more tied to Cerilia's Meibhaghl. Remove Fey type (Elves to).

Halfling: What issues might arise from adding the fey type?

Human: AD&D 2e gave humans in BR stat bonuses to differentiate them, now I believe that would imbalance them in 4E.

However how about regional benefits?

Now admittedly these are just off the top off my head, so what other ideas are out there?

Birthright in 4E - Introducing PHB Classes

Cleric - Obvious
Fighter - Obvious
Paladin - Obvious (going good so far)
Ranger - Obvious (I like this)
Rogue - Obvi...Getting silly now

Warlock - ok thinking about this as the three seperate paths I was thinking the Infernal Warlock is a result of Adurian folly (see my race post). The fey pact would be used/taught by the halflings, fey people themselves. Not sure about the Star Pact though.

Warlord - This class BELONGS in Cerilia. It's an easy fit.

Wizard - As a setting rule I'd have all Wizards possessing a bloodline, even if only tainted.

Birthright Class: Magician - Easiest fit for this is to say all magicians are ritual magic users.

Anyone else had some thoughts?

New Class: Scion (multiclass only)

Taking a special multiclass feat (Bloodmark) at first level allows you to select a bloodline, which gives you a minor special ability. In addition, you qualify for power swapping feats and special paragon paths.

Each bloodline would have powers for all levels that base classes do, and then there would be a few paragon paths for different bloodlines.

I can't wait to get the FRPG to see how the Spellscarred multi-class maps. Your idea is exactly how I see bloodlines being integrated.

Not sure you need powers for every level though. Many of the old blood abilities are probably irrelevant in the current edition. I think however that between the Spellscarred and the dragonmarked next year lies the answer.

If your worried about lack of skills I envision the Tainted Bloodline multi-class feat (to be revealed on a later thread ) to grant a choice of Bluff, Diplomacy, Insight or Intimidate.

Here you get what I see as one of the necessary ruler skills, but more importantly even if you don't want to take Skill training the 4E system rarely leaves you completely useless at skills.

I am doing the same thing at Birthright.net under "dundjinnmasta's Birthright 4e Conversion Thread"

Some notes to mention is that I plan on using Spellscarred to template my own Blooded Scion multiclass. I plan on using all the classes but I do not plan on using all the races. I like some ideas because they mirrored my own as well. I have first draft versions of Sidhelien and Cerilian Halflings attached to the race section as well already as well plus a rough guide to other races which is about where I am at now. I like the idea of Magicians being ritual casters but in honesty Wizard's magic is quite a bit less powerful then old spellcasting so I don't worry about wizard's to much and would probably leave Ritual Casting in the hands of Scions... along with the later Realm Spells when I start putting together the "Domain Rules"

Cool I just signed up on BR.net.

It's a little to quiet there for my liking but I'll have to check out your work.

I post on Wotc as Arawn76 and I think we have some similar ideas so it'll be interesting to compare.

There are no "dragonborns" or eladrins in Birthright, and no tieflings. The races of Cerilia are described in the campaign setting box.

As a side note I think wizards are at a much better power level for Birthright than previously and the ritual template works perfectly for Domain spells(rituals).

I've chosen to keep the concept of magician primarily to explain why any class can take ritual magic and because it's a staple of BR.

In addition to qualify for the Wizard class you need to be an elf, half-elf or possess the Tainted bloodline multi-class feat.

Yes I know. I would suggest reading the title of the thread perhaps?

I have another thread over at Wotc/The Piazza dedicated to converting BR to 4E as is.

Though I admire your mission, I unfortunately cannot add any content to the discussion as I have not read 4E. I loved Birthright dearly and I sincerely feel it was one of the richest settings of the 2ed days. I only wish it had garnered more support. I have noticed despite a rabid fan base there were many people who despised either the setting or the setting's foundation of player ruled domains. I never quite understood why. Good luck.
