Billy is on floor 3 (#306). You pull the van into the an empty space in the lot, step out, and activate the van's security system. The four of you head toward the building, braving the steady rain. It is a bit of an odd site- a dwarf trudging forward, with two humans just behind and a big troll taking up the rear.
You reach the awning, and the punks hanging out by the door get to their feet. You can see that they are only in their early teens, still basically kids. The one that appears to be the leader steps forward. He's the only one holding a gun, which hangs at his side. It is clear by the faces of each of the 5 kids that they are a little intimidated, but trying to look tough. Rain patters on the roof of the awning.
They aren't wearing any obvious gang symbols, but the graffiti painted on the wall behind them mentions something about the lycans (roll gang ID checks).
The leader, who also looks to be the oldest (probably around 16) speaks first.
"Metahumans aren't aloud in here."
Enoch Karlsen |
Enoch looks them over 7d6.hits(5)=5 thinking back to his time on the beat. <I think i rolled this correctly it's logic + skill correct?>
P.H. Dungeon |
Enoch you suspect that these kids might be lycan wannabees or lycans in training who haven't been initiated into the gang yet. Either that or they are just a bunch of kids hanging out.
Anyhow, you do recall a few details about the lycans- they are a smaller gang and their operations are more or less restricted to this neighbourhood. They are have been known to run protection rackets in the neighbourhood and to deal BTL and other dugs. They are a human gang that is highly anti metahuman, and some members are known to have links to the Humanis policlub. They often clash with metahuman gangs from Redmond, which keeps their numbers down. The lycans implant themselves with patches of fur and claws in an attempt to give themselves a more feral look (like shifters from Eberron). However they are believed to be human, as opposed to lycanthropes or shapeshifters. The kids in front of you don't have any such implants, which is why you don't think they are part of the gang.
Hoss |
Hoss will wait for one of the others to take the lead, but if things don't seem like they're going well, he'll plan to move in very quickly and put a spur to the leaders throat before he even realizes he should have drawn his gun. He won't plan to cut him unless he turns hostile.
(I'm still in Phoenix and don't get on the PC much so figured I'd sent "intent" and you can work it in as needed)
Graul 'Grayson Ulrich' |
Being well aware of these kind of punks and the way they work Graul couldn't agree more. "I don't think we have anything to worry about from them. Let's go check the place out"
As the leader of the punk gang steps out and makes his racism known Graul will smile hugely in a not-friendly-at-all manner and bulk himself up to his most imposing size. He'll then lean down to the punk and speak quietly
"Oh, I think they'll make an exception in our case"
and will then stand up and proceed ahead without waiting for a response from the pipsqueak. He will however have his hand on his gun and a spell ready to begin forming in his head...
P.H. Dungeon |
It should also be noted that it looks as though the building has a modicum of security. As in you can walk through the entrance, but then there is a second set of doors, and you see a passcode maglock installed on them. Of course this is the slums, so it might no even work.
The buildings AROs suck. Normally there would be a bunch of info flashing up in your field of vision that would offer you different options, such as doing a resident search to buzz people and perhaps letting you know if there are apartments for rent and how much they would cost. You don't see any of that.
You only see some graffiti saying, "This premise is protected by the Lycans. Humans only."

i take a look at the lock, and see if i can disable it: 3d6.hits(5)=0
"ok, i REALLY shouldn't have had that fifth double last night..."
P.H. Dungeon |
Given that you still have 5 potentially hostile youths nearby, you might want to hold off on the lock for a moment anyhow.

"ok, i REALLY shouldn't have had that fifth double last night..."
P.H. Dungeon |
Graul has moved past the the thug and through the front doors, along with Rick who has decided to take a peek at the maglock.
I'm not sure what Enoch is doing, but Hoss is taking up the rear and keeping an eye on the kids. The leader is hesitant to act. His friends look a little scared. Finally he finds some balls and starts to raise his gun. However, before he can get it up, Hoss has whipped his own piece out and has it aimed at the kid's face.
"Don't get stupid kid. Drop the gun and kick it over to my associate (he motions to Enoch)."
The kid decides to listen. His weapon clatters to the ground and he gives it a kick along that sends it sliding over to Enoch.
Hoss keeps his gun on him for a moment, "Good choice. Now make a second good choice and don't cause us any trouble. If you do there will be consequences that you won't like."
P.H. Dungeon |
There is a precrash, voice activated commsystem. You operate it by speaking into it, saying the name of who you wish to look up; it then buzzes the apartment and puts you through to the resident. It looks damaged and you doubt its functionality.
Is there a buzzer system, door intercom etc?
P.H. Dungeon |
Rick was probably the best shot on that one. However without an electronics tool kit or a maglock code breaker, it's not an easily doable job. However, the plexiglass windows that fill the door, though somewhat tough, are by no means bullet or troll proof, and of course there are probably other creative ways to get inside.
Enoch Karlsen |
Flash Leo see if he can find plans for the building. In the meantime look the building over are there fire escapes, do the buildings next door join this building or are there alleys? If they join this building would they be easier to access and go to the roof and access this building from there?
Enoch Karlsen |
Let's keep that as a option, let's try the super first. - look for a com for apartment rentals for this building - data search 6d6.hits(5)=4
P.H. Dungeon |
The comms a bit outdated, but it works. There are several apartments up for rent in the building, and it is easy enough to page the super.
A groggy male voice comes over the comm. You explain that you are interested in renting an apartment and want to view one. He agrees to come see you.
You wait about 8 minutes. Finally you see a greasy looking man in his early 40s step into the lobby. He is wearing jeans and a dirty undershirt. He holds a cheap streetline revolver in his right hand. As he sees you at the doors, he stops about 15' from the doors. He keeps his pistol at his side, but shouts out.
"WE DON'T RENT TO METAHUMANS. TAKE OFF!"
Enoch Karlsen |
Now now we don't want to rent but i have some papers to serve and I figured it would be less work for you if you just let us in to do our job and a few Nuyen in your pocket as opposed to the extra work of having to replace a door and other repairs but either way works for me. What do you say.
P.H. Dungeon |
"Billy..., Billy... Oh you mean the porn star guy. Yeah, he's a bit of nut. I don't think he's around. A couple of nights back a few of the Lycans came looking for him. I think he took off. He hasn't shown his head around since. They told me to tell them if I see him. What do you think I should tell them about people who come looking for him?"
P.H. Dungeon |
"Fine. Let's make this quick."
He extends an empty hand towards Enoch-
"cred"
The lobby wreaks of stale urine.
A woman wanders in from a nearby hallway. It's tough to tell her age because she's obviously done many years of hard living. She's wearing a scraggly bathrobe that is hanging open, revealing a lot more than you want to see. Her scraggly hair hangs in her face. As she sees you folks she starts shouting.
"Miguel, what the f++$ are you doing letting trash like this into our building?"
The super turns toward her.
"Shut up, you stupid b+*#~. You still owe two months rent. You'll be lucky if I don't feed you to the trog here."
P.H. Dungeon |
He does as you ask, and then leads you to the stairs.
"The elevator in this place don't work. Sucks if you live on the 15th floor. Luckily Billy only lives on the third floor."
He leads you into the stairwell, which stinks worse than the lobby. Soon you step out into a hallway. The hallway is empty.
He leads you down the hall to apartment #306.
spoiler for Rick and Enoch
He knocks on the door. Surprisingly you hear a voice, male from the sounds of it.
"Who's there?" it says.
"This is the super. Is this Billy?"
"No. What the f*#~ do you want? He ain't in."
"So who are you then?" asks the super.
"What the f@&@ do you want?"
Miguel looks at you guys with a questioning look on his face.
Enoch Karlsen |
signal to super to give me the passcard and get back down the hall out of danger - to Hoss & Rick- I'll get the door if who ever shoots they'll be expecting a human sized target. You be ready. Graul you back up a bit as well get out of line of fire be ready to offer support. Go on three 1.2.3..
P.H. Dungeon |
The super hands Enoch the passkey and moves up the hall. Hoss and Rick move that way as well. Graul moves down the hall the other way, a short ways and has his shotgun ready. I'll assume that Hoss and Rick have their guns handy.
At any rate- Spoiler for Enoch
They look down at you, surprised to see a dwarf standing in the doorway.
"Who the f$#+ are you?"
They train their guns down to your level.
The map I drew isn't great, and Graul is not on it because he is just below Enoch.
For the rest of you- as you Enoch opens the door you hear a voice from inside the apartment shout out-
"Who the f#!# are you?"
Enoch Karlsen |
I fake right roll left using both the door and wall as extra cover signal to Rick (Hoss may or may not know Lonestar hand signals)
