My Shoanti barbarian is being retired for a while and is recuperating until her friends can find a way to put her arm back on. Until then, I was wanting to try playing a jester from the Dragon Compendium.
What country would be most appropriate for a traditional "cap and bells" jester to come from? I was thinking of playing a Varisian, but it didn't seem to mesh when I thought about it. Are there enough opportunities in Varisia to support that tradition of entertainers?

The semi-nearby nation of Lastwall seems mostly composed of closed-off, forbidding castles and fortressess awaiting serious Mordor-style sh1t to go down. On those long winter evenings waiting for the Whispering Tyrant to come back, or whatever, I'd imagine that ANYTHING even remotely funning would be welcome. even a man with a cap-n-bells prancing about, making lame puns, and calling people "nuncle."

Lastwall's a good ghoice. So is Taldor. Andoran's an interesting choice too; although it's not feudal, there have been several jester-type characters in the various modules set there. Absalom's got jesters too... but that's more because Absalom's got most everything.
Cheliax probably has jesters, but they're also probably really mean-spirited. Even for a jester.
