Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

With some assistance Ka'kara manages to scale the wall and even find a way to push open the secret door that is located up there. It opens into a narrow passage that turns right after about 10 feet.

Assuming, of course, Roylenna's lights to see by.

Female Human Barbarian 7

She looks around the corner before catching herself and remembering to lower a rope for the others, hooking her grapple on the secret door.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna was beginning to look bored, but with the idea of a secret door, halfway up the wall, she gets animated once again. Her Lights are most certainly available for our favorite barbarian.

I forget the bonus for climbing with a rope. And can I get some assistance, 'cause this wee lassie's not a climber.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I think that you'll be able to take 10 on your climbing up the rope, so that should be a problem. Who'll be leading the way when you get up?

You'll have to leave Chris's wolf behind, of course.

Female Human Barbarian 7

I am guessing Mahaffy will be insistent on taking the lead and for the moment Ka'kara will be convinced to follow.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The corridor turns a corner and after 10 more feet ends in a door, which does not seem to be trapped.

"Chris, we can't leave your wolf! I can make you big so you can put him in the secret hall and then you can shrink back down and climb up. What do you think?"

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy is certainly in the lead when checking for traps and once he is convinced the door is not trapped , he will first listen at the door
Invsible castle is down , feel free to toll for him

Sounds like a good idea. I will use one of my scrolls so I can speak with Robin and explain it all.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

After hoisting the discontent Robin up, you enter through the door and find yourselves in a 30 feet square room. The only interesting feature is a stone well in the middle of the room. Several rusted metal pails, a rusted pickaxe and three broken clubs lay in one corner.

The well descends 30 feet, with about 7 feet of standing water at the bottom. You think you can make out something metallic at the bottom.

Roylenna conjures up another set of lights and tries to "push" her original Dancing Lights under the surface of the water to illuminate the something at the bottom. "I've never tried this before!"

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy hides a shudder and thinks to himself 'let's hope they won't ask be to go into the water ...'
He begins to check the walls

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara looks down the well, "It's not that deep. Here wait a second." She goes and retrieves her rope, hooks it to the side of the well, and drops the rope in. Apparently completely oblivious to Mahaffy's trepidation she says to him, "Would you like to go down first or shall I?"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Roylenna's lights won't go into the water, but obviously that doesn't hold for Ka'kara. As you descend and the well is illuminated you can see that there is indeed some sort of a key lying on the bottom. Will you try to get it? In that case, make a Swim check.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara takes Mahaffy's hesitation as a sign he wants her to go first and climbs down the well without further word until she reaches the water, "Hey, looks like a key on the bottom, I'll go get it" Followed quickly by a splash.

Swim check: 1d20+9=29 LOL, probably couldn't fail the roll with a +9 but damn she does a perfect double somersault. She seems to be quite acrobatic lately.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara takes an elegant dive and emerges with the key, a simple brass one.

Now what?

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

If mahaffy does not find any other exits from this room , he'll propose to go back to the stairs and this time take the ascending ones to check there

Black Tom wrote:

Now what?

Sandros will give the key a once-over with detect magic, just in case.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The key is not magical and the stairs actually join, making this essentially a dead end.

Where do you want to go next?

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:

Now what?

Ka'kara looks the key over for a moment, "Do you think this might go to those strange doors we found underneath the lake?" Upon confirming that the stairs circle right back to where they started she just shakes her head in disbelief. "Looks like we have been most places here, lets take those other stairs down further. I'm tired of goblins."

Everyone:

Spoiler:
Honestly it seems we have only a few options. Finish exploring the few places remaining on the first level, explore the goblin area further, mess with the glass entombed figure, or head down the stairs to the next level of the dungeon. Probably some stuff I am forgetting.

"How many keys did the door below the lake require? I didn't see it."

Everyone:

Spoiler:
The biggest mystery at this point seems to be that mysterious door below the lake. I'm interested in trying to figure out how to open it. However, it does appear to be set up for a more experienced rogue - no offense to Mahaffy - if I recall the discussion at the time correctly.

The door requires three keys, and judging by the size and shape, this is one of them.

** spoiler omitted **

Chris is a bit insecure.

I'm not sure but Robin doesn't like Dungeons....Finish exploring the first level or explore the goblin area further? I don't know. What do the rest of you think.

"Goblins don't entertain me much either, as it happens," Sandros says dryly. "I concur with our lovely warrior; let's head down."

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Let's finish exploring the first level then

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Two for going down, one for going up, one undecided and one MIA. Roylenna?

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna pouts for a moment. "I'd really like to find those other keys..." But she brightens up, as usual, with, "but I haven't seen everything that's down the stairs yet, either!"

Down, please!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Going down the stairs you emerge in a large room (about 50 feet square, but the corners closest to you are rounded). The walls opposite you are lined with life-sized statues of what appears to be kings and queens. There are 40 of them, and they are all in a sorry state, missing noses, arms or heads, and some have even been broken in half.

There are doors to the left, right and ahead. The doors to the left and right are closed, while the door opposite stands ajar.

Roylenna's quite curious about the statues, but with visible effort she waits for someone more cautious to give the all-clear before she tries to examine them more closely.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Seeing Roylenna's hesitation Ka'kara pauses midstep, "They are just statues. Broken ones at that. What harm could they be?"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

There is some lettering in Viridian at the base of each statue. Other than that, they just look like broken statues.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna looks at the barbarian woman for a moment, then moves closer to the statues. Noticing the script, she will attempt to interpret:

Linguistics 1d20+7=20 I assume if you need additional rolls, you'll make them "behind the screen," BT.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara stays with Roylenna as she goes up to the statues but quickly becomes bored with the studying of the carvings. She soon finds herself peering carefully through the open doors.

Perception (if needed): 1d20+5=11

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

As usual , Mahaffy will insist to go before the girls to check for traps , noise and so on . He looks with interest to the statues and asks "So ! Does anyone know who could have left these here ? Even as a dwarf, I don't really know who did live there in the past but it could give us hints of what vould behind the doors for which we have found a key "

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Suddenly a shudder goes over the world. You all experience a sinking feeling and a moment of dizzyness as the world seems to be turning inside out. A fleeting vision of a stout blond man with a goatee and a tired expression passes, and then everything is back to normal - of sorts.

Proteus and Chris (and Robin) are gone, but Felicia and Petra have joined you. Somehow it is as if they had always been there (although none of you remembers quite how they got there).

We will resume normal operations shortly - after conversions are done.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

After regaining her wits, Roylenna insists on searching for Proteus -- he's been part of her life too long to forget so easily. After a while, she stops, looks around, and says, "What I looking for again? It's on the tip of my tongue..." She sticks her tongue out at Ka'kara as if to show her, "Thee? Wight thewe!"

She laughs and goes back to investigating the statues.

Re: conversions, I think I see what Shisumo implied earlier -- I am a touch saddened to see that Roylenna's signature action has been nerfed quite a bit, but it was perhaps too easy and therefore too powerful. *sigh*

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Roylenna is able to make out the writings on the bases of the statues. It appears to be a number of old Viridian monarchs of centuries past. She also notices that each king is matched by his respective queen.

"Oh, look at this! I think it's a gallery of kings and queens from years past. Here's Modwen the Second and his lovely queen Salisha and that's ...." She's not paying attention to the fact that Ka'kara and the others have given up on her providing anything of interest at this point.

Just to be clear, that Linguistics roll was using her Beta build. She won't have ranks like that without the level of bard.

Felicia blinks a few times trying to clear her suddenly foggy mind. She could have sworn that a few seconds ago she was in a big city but at the same time she felt sure she had been here as well She recognised Roylenna (being her third cousin) and it would have made sence for her to ask her to come along she supposed but still everything seemed a little.........Off .Shacking her head she walked over next to Roylenna intently taking notes. Sitting around wasn't going to make her head clear any faster and an adventure was an adventure after all

Hope this is okay since I wasn't really sure how to handle the intro

Bleh, A little (Make that a lot) Over the top don't you think? I mean how is she supposed to move around in that? Would kind of ruin a story if the beautiful Queen fell flat on her face because that thing got in the way."

Sticking out her tongue, "I said she was standing, silly. Besides, I've heard a lot of royalty are really couch potatoes when they aren't looking all regal at the ball."

I have this image of two oblivious halfling chattering away while the darkness behind them coalesces into some big scary something ready to pounce.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara focused on the next room and having already tuned out the incessant delivery of details regarding the statues has not even realized anything has changed behind her, "It's hard to make out anything in all this darkness. Lenna, you mind bringing your lights over here?"

!! Incessant delivery of details!! ;-)

"Sure, Ka'kara!" The halfling mage pushes her current set of Lights over to the barbarian before conjuring up another set and saying, "Now look at this fellow, a century or so back - see how his leg is a little askew under his robe? I remember a tale of how he was born with a mishapen left leg that he worked to hide from all. It's a wonder the sculptor wasn't killed for portraying the king with a deformity he didn't admit to having!" Eyes wide, "Or maybe he was!"

Oooh, don't give me any ideas. You wouldn't like me when I get ideas.

...on an entirely unrelated note: ;-)

As Roylenna and Felicia are busy examining the statues a portion of the ancient stucco suddenly falls off the wall behind the statues, releasing a cloud of dust. Fort save vs. 12 for our intrepid entrepreneurs.
