Bar Exam: Wish us luck!

Starting Monday, July 21, my wife and I will be sitting for the Louisiana Bar Exam. It’s a nasty process; 9 exams over the course of 3 days (MWF), each exam lasting 2-3 hours. It’s supposed to be a test for “minimal competence” with a minimum score of 70% required to pass each exam, but considering the breadth of topics you’re responsible for it’s not a cake walk. Then there’s the fact that the first five exams (Code exams) are more important than the last four (non-Code). There’s a wonky system for whether you fail completely (and have to take it all over again), pass (and don’t have to take any again), or “condition” (where you have to take the ones you failed again). It’s a real pain in the rear; we’ve been studying for two months for this thing. Worst part is that we won’t get results until October (after I’ve started my job as a “law clerk”). If I condition or fail I stay a law clerk until I pass, if they don’t let me go. Needless to say, it’s a real nerve-wracking time.
So, wish us luck. We need all the help we can get.

Sincerely, if not quite lucid,
FP

Good luck, fellow acolytes at the altar of law. :D

Good Luck!

Nine days of Bar Exams--wow, man--that's a lot of drinking, but I'm sure you'll make great bartenders.

Peace.

Yea, verily! And good fortune, nigh barristers!

Good luck!

Good luck to you both. I know when my wife and I took the bar it was nerve wracking (ours was only 2 days) but almost everyone I knew passed the first time. I'm sure you will do fine.

Best of luck to both of you!

Hey, good luck!

Good luck.

The bar exam can be a trying time.

Don't listen to anyone else about the answers they wrote on their exams, try to relax, and try to get some sleep during the times between exams.

Good luck - I'm sure you'll do fine. Just relax, stay calm, and think to yourself "if that idiot Sebastian can pass it*, anyone can."

;-)

*Okay, technically I took a different bar than you, but the sentiment remains.

Louisiana Bar Exam? And it takes that long? Are you sure? Hell, from growing up down there, I always thought they just had three laws:

1. Don't get caught.

2. If you do get caught, blame someone else or try for a plea bargain.

3. Run for office.

Louisiana, huuh? Sheesh, I remember in Torts class how that state differed from so many others. Then again, I practice in Massachusetts...

Anyhow, good luck and stay calm and focused. Hopefully, you and your wife will be joining the ranks of the legal profession by the end of the year.

Is that bit from 'Catch Me If Can' about the Lousiana bar not actually requiring graduation from a law school still true? I'd like to try my hand at that if it is. It took Frank Abagnale Jr three tries to pass if I recall correctly. How many tries do you get?

Good luck! I took (and passed) the Missouri bar exam last summer so I know how nerve-wracking it can be. Stay on top of your studies and practice exams. Then trust your preparation and try to relax the weekend before. Don't panic during the exams, just answer as best you can. You'll do fine!

Hey, if I can tackle NY and VA, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Good luck, and don't forget to breath. It helps. Really.

Would it help in any way if you threatened to sue them if they didn't pass you?

I just wanted to let anyone who's interested know, my wife and I passed the Bar. I'm a practicing tax attorney now (hence the severe lack of posting on my favorite forums). So thank you everyone who wished us luck. We appreciated it!

Ya'll really earned it. That was alot of dedication to your studies meanwhile the rest of us sat around and played Halo and such. Good times.
Congrats again.

Congrats.

As you've no doubt found out by now, your career is just beginning, and very little of what you were taught in school applies to real world representation of clients.

:D

Welcome to the club.

Great! That's all we need, more lawyers.... just kidding! Congrats!
