Layjiani
Just as a reminder, Layjiani does have 7 ranks in K Dung, she has lots of experience poking around in underground places.
Backing out of reach of the tentacles, Layjiani takes deadly aim on the shrieker that just attacked her and fires (1d20+7=8, 1d8+4=6) her arrow at it.
DM Wellard
OK not waiting any longer.Lets get this combat moving.
Even with her view being obscured by the surrounding fungal Forest Gashelles glaive slices into the violet fungus. Aude holds back confident that her comrades can dispose of a few plants easily but prepares a bless just in case it should be required.
Layjiani's shot Misses badly ploughing into a normal mushroom
The Fungus attacks..and it becomes apparent that there are two of the ambulatory plant creatures present as eight tentacles shoot out at Gashelle and Layjiani. Most Miss but one lashes across the Duskblades hand..she feels the sting of poison on her skin
New poison rules means that Gashelle will not suffer the poison effects for one minute...then has to make 4 saves, each failed save inflicting 1STR & 1CON Damage
Eltariel Maneouvers to a spot where she can catch both violet fungi in her area off effect. The one that Gashelle damaged chars and falls along with one of the shriekers the other Violet Fungus is still active..at least until Holgurs axe smashes into it ending it's unnatural existence.
Two shriekers remain active and howling though both are badly damaged by the flames
Layjiani
Cursing under her breath "Tenticles...why do it always be tenticles..."
Layjiani backs up 30' again and shoots (1d20+7=20, 1d8+4=10) another arrow.
Gashelle Smith
"Oh, that's going to smart," Gashelle mutters under her breath, already a little wobbly.
She stabs at a shrieker, almost incidentally, hitting AC 18 for 13 points of damage.
"Aude, I could use that assistance now..."
Wellard, typical Pathfinder poisons have a "cure", a number of saves which resolve the continuing damage. Most poisons have a cure of "1 save", but terrible poisons like wyvern venom have "2 saves".
Gashelle attempts to stave off the damage:
1d20+7: [13,7] = (20)
1d20+7: [9,7] = (16)
1d20+7: [20,7] = (27)
1d20+7: [15,7] = (22)
DM Wellard
A right I was working from the conversion document as well as the book...it's only a DC14 save so I guess 1 save 'cures' it...roll on the bestiary when we don't have to do quick conversions
Gashelles strong body fights off the poison..just as well as with a chittering scrabbling sound two huge segmented insects burst into the chamber from the north east.
Gashelle 22
Aude 20
Insects 19
Layjiani 16
Eltariel 12
Holgur 9
Avinar 4
Gashelle and Eltariel
Ankhegs...acid spitting Magical beasts
Eltariel Elessand
"Tentacles, slime and - bugs!" Eltariel warns.
I am guessing that as we are in the southern section of the chamber and the creatures in the northern, we will have to cover a lot of distance to engage them, but we can see them because of the light rocks we tossed around ...
"Beware, these creatures can spit acid!" Eltariel warns. Drawing her bow she notches an arrow and lets fly across the cavern.
Attack with bow: 1d20+6 -> [7,6] = (13) to hit and 1d8-1 -> [8,-1] = (7) damage
Gashelle Smith
"The shriekers did their job, now let's do ours. Let's not fool around with these things."
Move Action Gashelle moves 30' north to engage the enormous insects.
Swift Action She casts Blade of Blood, taking the 5 points of damage. (Did the violet fungus strike actually do any damage, Wellard?)
If she's within striking distance, she'll attack. Otherwise, she'll ready an attack until one of the things come close enough.
Attack Action Gashelle casts Shocking Grasp and swings her glaive, hitting AC 22 for (a disappointing) 26 points of damage (or AC 24 for 33 hp in the unlikely event they're Chaotic).
DM Wellard
The Fungus strike did 3 points of damage to Gashelle. She doesn't manage to come into strike range and is now standing beside Layjiani approximately 25 feet from the insects.
Aude invokes a blessing on her comrades.everyone is now +1 to attack and on saves vs fear effects
The Ankhegs attack Gashelle and Layjiani the Duskblades strike almost but not quite crippling the smaller of the two as it moves within reach..in response the insect rears up and spits a viscous line of acid at her..she stumbles as she tries to avoid it, slipping on the underfoot slime and cries out as the acid scores her flesh(10 damage)
The second larger beast slashes at Layjiani with its Mandibles scoring a smoking line across her armour
Gashelle Smith
The Ankheg rears up and spits a viscous line of acid at Gashelle. She stumbles as she tries to avoid it, slipping on the underfoot slime and cries out as the acid scores her flesh.
The shout was most likely something salty in Karikhani, like "Obnazh!"
Gashelle remembers one of her Duskblade classmates relate an encounter with one of these things. According to his tale, the spittle took out four good knights and sent their horses to panic as well. Getting this thing to focus only on me was a boon.
Holgur
Layjiani
Quickly whilring around as the huge insects burst out of the fungus behind her (is that correct? I'm guessing she must have been backing away from the shriekers straight into where the insects came from?)
and barely manages to suck in her gut at the last second causing the giant mandibles to only mark her armor instead of ripping out her intestines.
Also cursing colourfully in Elven, the ranger quickly backpedals 30' to make room for the melee fighters before taking deadly aim and unleashing a MW arrow (1d20+8=27, 1d8+4=10) at the smaller creature.
actually should have been +9 to hit, forgot about the MW arrow, but I'm sure that should do it anyway ;-)Btw, Can't wait till next level when I can take my first Ranger Favored Terrain! heh heh Layji will Rock underground.
Gashelle Smith
Also cursing colourfully in Elven, the ranger quickly backpedals 30' to make room for the melee fighters before taking deadly aim and unleashing an arrow at the smaller creature.
Gashelle doesn't take her eye off the larger Anhkheg, but calls over her shoulder in Elvish: "Kashnewah tangada myn angenma. 'Sh'lhug emelbaur' indeed. Nany nomo, haghy suith oushukai, pharitsu hok'beleg." (At this last, she looks at the acid-burned tatters of her left sleeve and the blisters forming over her exposed flesh.)
"Thank you for correcting my careless error. 'Motherless vermin' indeed. If we make it through this, I owe you a drink. But maybe not one this strong."
Layjiani
Layjiani laughs from her gut, a quick but emphatic outburst as she replies with grim humour in Elven "Tel'Ohtar ya lala a'ascana sh'soro per tel'dadora eh paraman. Lye tath lon Die oushukais y ron tath ayr thali'Belegat san'sina ernelbaur agar!"
"A Warrior who can laugh at pain has already won half the battle. We shall have TWO drinks and they shall be Stronger than this vermin blood!"
PS what do you use for your Elvish? I found this one site that's not bad - Here but would be happy to find another.
Aude COOPER
sorry for the delay but i lost my internet access for some days there (:. And to continue with the sad news , tomorrow is the beginning of my holydays in Sweden so my posts will be few till the end of next week . and wellard thanks !!!You were spot on what aude would have done !
DM Wellard
Layjiani avoids a slashing attack from the larger insect as she pulls out of it's reach her arrow fells the smaller.Eltariels arrow bounces of the horny carapace of the remaining Ankheg...Holgurs attack fails miserably. Avinar reacting late to the insects arrival rushes it..Mothers Kiss flicks out inflicting a grievous wound on it(confirmed crit 16 damage)
Post round 2 actions please
Gashelle Smith
Gashelle approaches the larger anhkheg from the other side, hoping to flank it, and willing to expose herself to whatever deadly fungi are on this side of the room.
She attacks again. Using the DM Tools roller, because InvisibleCastle seems to be down.
She hits AC 25: #1247 1d20 + (+10) = 25
for 14 points of damage. #1248 1d10 + (+5) = 14
Oh, and Layjiani, I'll take that topic to the Discussion thread
Eltariel Elessand
Eltariel closes the range until she is close to Layjiani and flings a firebolt at the remaining anhkeg.
ranged touch (into melee) Roll(1d20)+1: 20,+1 Total:21 Damage Roll(1d6)+1: 1,+1 Total:2 fire. To confirm critical: Roll(1d20)+1: 3,+1 Total:4 ... er, I won't bother with damage then ...
DM Wellard
Gashelles blow and Layjiani's arrow bring the beast down....
The sudden burst of activity over the caverns return to stillness
270 Xp each for the ankhegs..which tips you over the levelling point for 5th..congratulations..as usual spontaneous casters get new spells immediately...prepared casters get theirs after a full 8 hours rest...get new HP immediately..and remember you get a feat at this level

Feats at 5th level? Is this per the new PF rules?
Eltariel Elessand
"Aude, Gashelle needs healing - I have one scroll left, but I'd prefer to save that in case of emergency. Can you heal her?"
Yes, PF final release has feats every odd level as per Alpha and Beta. I have taken Craft Magic Arms & Armour, as planned. Fancy a magic weapon and magic breastplate? a +1 Great Axe and +1 Breastplate will cost 1500gp in materials.
Avinar
Wellard, can I assume Avinar is with the group? Am I 5th as well? Hi guys...I'm baaack
Avinar looks concerned at Eltariel's wounds, its times like this he wishes he was just more than a sword arm, "Are you ok my sweet?, please Aude, let you magical healing wash upon her."
Gashelle Smith
Gashelle , how hurt are you ?
"Not too badly. The mushroom back there scratched me, and --of course-- I'm covered in acidic spittle that smells like year-old ketchup. And casting blade of blood always exacts a price. I should be good to go for a while longer."
I'm at 23 out of 41 before leveling; I'm not sure if I'm 35 out of 53 or 23 out of 53 after leveling.
I was debating between Gashelle learning Arcane Strike (+2 on damage when she's not doing anything else with her swift action) or Master Craftsman (silversmith). I think Master Craftsman is more to her flavor.
DM Wellard
You make your way through the fungi into another cavern...this one is smaller and dominated by a noisome heap of carrion..some animal some humanoid.
Layjiani
Not looking thrilled with the task either, Layjiani looks for some sort of long stick or something that she might poke through the heap with.
Perception (1d20+9=26)This is before leveling. But I'm sure that should be enough, yes?
When they are done, she will lead her fellows through to the next tunnel going clockwise, again, as always being cautious. Her shield is on and an arrow nocked.
Still wondering what Feat to choose, those of you that have the new book, any suggestions? Feel free to answer in OOC.
Eltariel Elessand
"It seems clear to me that these creatures have preyed on not a few adventurers that came this way," Eltariel remarks.
Using some water and cloth from her pack, and judicious use of her staff, Eltariel will endeavour to separate out and clean up these items in order to identify them.

Layjiani
Not caring overly much about the previous owners of the items ('gone do be gone and dead do be dead ...well, most of the time') but always excited over the finding of new treasure, the excitement plain in her eyes Layjiani waits curiously for Eltariel to identify what the items are.
Great list Chris, thanks. Perhaps to help make distribution easier once we get there it might help to indicate which items have already been claimed by those of us who have done so?
Gashelle Smith
"Etariel, did you want to investigate these here and now, or pack them up to analyze later? If you wanted to check them here, I'd be willing to retrace the route to the tower and drop the force field, to let our genie friend check and see if there's any other anhkhegs burrowing around and undermining the tower."
If we'd rather keep moving, Gashelle follows Layjiani around the large fungus room to the southern tunnel.
