I don't know if the official map is available yet or not, I'm pretty sure that last year it wasn't available in advance, so in case not then if -- *big* if -- the layout is the same as last time then the layout is something like this:
http://picasaweb.google.com/callum.finlayson/UntitledAlbum/photo#5228435775 849257346
- accom (whiteknights/childs/windsor) is in yellow
- admin + various (Palmer building) in dark blue
- RPGs (HUMMS building) in red
- board games & minis (Estate management) in light blue
- trade hall (student services) in green
- student union is in purple
You'll probably drive in along the pink lines from the north (from Upper Redlands Rd) or west (from Shinfield Rd)
Just to reiterate the above is based on last year's layout and is just incase the real map isn't available in advance.

That is like going to the United states and Saying.. US food is great... Best Italian in the world!!!!!*which is a true statement..but that is besides the point damn it!!!!!*
Ahh, but that's where you're mistaken, it is English, you can't get them anywhere else! Please note I said curries not Indian! There is a significant difference. :D
Actually, traditional English food is pretty good too. It's just very difficult to find.

I can heatily recommend Pepe Salle
http://www.pepesale.co.uk/
a Sardinian restaurant in Reading.
If going, recommend getting a taxi and if memory serves, it is slightly more expensive but the food is worth it.
Whilst I shall be immersing myself with much gusto into Pathfinder, volunteer duties menas I may miss out on the social, so enjoy.

I will be calling Miah’s Garden of Gulab to make Reservations starting at 9PM Friday August 29th for 20 people. For those interested here is the menu.
Angel Gabriel |
Made the reservations.. we are good to go!!!
Well done, Dragnmoon. Good'n decisive. I'm in and I'll buy you a pint of Cobra! We can harden up on the number of people and call the restaurant when we see who is game for a laugh.
I saw you are planning to swing-by Stonehenge while you are over. You'll enjoy it. They have a very good audio commentary you can stick in yer ear as you walk around the perimeter. I hope it's a misty day for atmosphere. I'll bring my pass for you. If you have enough time, do visit Avebury if you can. It's a huge figure of eight of standing stones that runs all the way around a village. It's much less publicised than Stonehenge but possibly even more spectacular.

Yes.. they are late... The drop dead last date we will see them is August 8th... Should be enough time for GenCon UK..
I wish I could take that Pint... But I volunteered as a Designated Driver...

Ok Fine... Designated Walker?...

A good curry sounds pretty awesome, I must say. I'm up for that.
What are we going to have on Saturday and Sunday though? I vote Pizza, then Chinese.
Pizza?... Outside of New York?... You Crazy!!!! That is Like getting Cajun outside of Louisiana!

15-20 Minutes is a lot for a bunch of drunk people.. ;-)

We in the UK know how to party? Are more fun?
Or we just need more organising and talking about it?
I think we are just more social... which means a better party.. ;-)

Pah, 15-20 minutes? My drunken walk home from Sheffield city centre after a night out is about half an hour and an extra 200m above sea level (stupid bloody hill, we have a nice view across the Pennines though); drunken walks are fun! Especially when you don't have anyone who needs carrying (not so good) and if you can find a park about half-way back to collapse in and stare at the stars for a while :D
The thread is longer because we take our parties seriously here :P (hell the meals/beers are so expensive, you might as well make a decent night out of it).
We should still totally form a quiz team on the Thursday :P. And I'd like to vote for Chinese on Saturday if there's a decent one nearby, since I'll be long gone Sunday night, though I'm always up for Italian too...

People DO know that there is a pub on site, right?
The SU/JCR bar is a fairly typical student bar (and seemed to be closed for most of GCUK07), but the SCR bar's pretty decent and where we spent a lot of time last year -- plus it's sufficiently well hidden that it's relatively quiet as a lot of people can't find it! :)

Probably the place to meet up later on then (for those of us who are running games/volunteering 8pm-12)? If people manage to stagger back to campus.

I used to live in Walkley in Sheffield. Lots of walking up hills coming back from a night out. (In my experience, only Cardiff beats Sheffield for steep hills)
Edit: Sorry for the tangent. Please return to your regular discussion.

[thread-jack]I just moved from Walkley even further up so I'm just inside Crookes, now I'm at the top of a cul-de-sac off Heavygate Road, so even if I'm a lazy arse and get a bus, I still have a steep road to climb *sigh*. Really nice house though, huge and the first place I've lived in here that hasn't felt like a student dive, so totally worth it. [/thread-jack]
Sorry, don't mind me, so GenCon! :)

Maybe we can talk about Sheffield at the GenCon meet up?
(I used to live on Freedom Road, not far from Heavygate Rd. I did a lot of roleplaying at Sheffield Uni and met my wife there so it feels special to me but I don't get to go back there often enough.)Dragnmoon |

a quiet bar!!? That is Blasphemy!!!!!

Hehe :) but if a pub is quiet then you can actually hear each other easily, then you can snag a cloth from the bar to wipe down beer stickiness and settle in for an evening of beer-fueled one-off roleplay/geeky card games (guess it says something about how unashamed the guys I hang out with are about their geeky habits that I can end up doing this pretty frequently in fairly popular pubs).
And yeah Wintergreen, my OH and I have been Sheffielders and NoDDSoc members for coming up to 6 years now, we should totally chat at the con :).

(Raises hand) Another Sheffielder here, though a comer-in who hasn't yet investigated NoDDSoc. Old Queen's Head/ROTTOK and Patriot, plus Furnace last year, have been my gaming haunts thus far. Be good to talk to other locals and previously-locals at the Con!

Cool. Definitely have to have a little Sheffield get-together.
And you really should check out NoDDSoc. I've always found there to be quality roleplayers in the society.Angel Gabriel |
OK, I know this is the wrong place to post it but I want to catch UK Pathfinders' attention for a second.
I'm running Slot Zeros for three Pathfinder scenarios next Friday evening 7.00pm 22 August, and Bank Holiday 2.00pm Monday 25 August. Muswell Hill, North London.
I've already posted it on the Slot Zero Board for Pathfinder DMs but if you are a player who can't get to play all four scenarios then you may be interested too and you would be very welcome (space permiting). I understand you get your experience and rewards which I will submit for you.
I won't be running Hydra's Fang but so far you could choose which you want to play. Just let me know if you are interested.

Azoun The Sage wrote:Indeed soon! Have we figured out how to identify one another yet at the Con??Print out those nifty Pathfinder badges and pin them on your chest?
That was my plan! I think the best idea would probably be to download our PFS cards, use a PDF editor to add our preferred board aliases onto the end of our names, print them out and either put them in one of those plastic badge things, or stick them in a wallet and flash them at people :).

I'm potentially very interested in Murder on the Silken Caravan and The Silent Tide as I'll probably not get the chance to play those at Gencon.

Dear Callum
You would be very welcome. Naturally Pathfinder DMs get first dibs because we all need to get to grips with the Scenarios. It's very close to the date and I need to get complete tables booked for certain.
On Friday Evening I plan to be running Silent Tide. On Monday afternoon and evening I plan to be running Frozen Fingers and Murder on the Silken Caravan. So far, this is flexible. I can swop these three around to fit your own interests. e.g. I could swop around and do Silent Tide and Murder on the Silken Caravan on the Monday
We probably have a Taldorian Gnomic Bard; an Osirian Cleric; a Taldorian halfling sorceror and a pumped-up-heavy chain fighter of some sort. That’s about my best guess at the moment. You will have seen the scenarios have already had rave reviews from GenCon Indy but are mid to high risk.
I expect you have already downloaded the "Guide to Organized Play" that gives you all you need to know abut creating characters. Do create an account with Paizo (FREE) and register for the Pathfinder Campaign (FREE) and get your character and faction registered. That way I can submit your Experience points, Prestige and rewards.
If you need some directions for finding us let me know. We are at 44 Sutton Road, London N10 1HE. We have a very friendly bunch of players and at least one other newcomer.
Please let me know, ASAP, if you are coming on Friday evening, Bank Holiday Monday or both. On the Monday we have lunch for you and in the evening we can call for pizza or sumink. Looking forward to seeing you.

Kind regards

Mild preference for Silent Tide & Silken Caravan on the same day (Monday), but if it's inconvenient to rearrange things then I can do both days.

Not sure what I'm going for yet, but I've trimmed the list down to a female human grad student, a male human televangelist/nightclub owner, or a male gnome barber. All hailing from Cheliax, but that's just coincidence rather than design.
If you need some directions for finding us let me know. We are at 44 Sutton Road, London N10 1HE.
That'd be the corner of London the RMT are trying to cut off in their latest round of blackmail?

Thanks, I've sent you an email.

Adapter; BS 1363 plug picture on Wikipedia. They're pretty unique so you shouldn't be in any danger of buying the wrong thing :).
I imagine the internet will be an ethernet port or possibly wireless, but since I've never been to Reading university before I wouldn't know...
Oh and whoever asked about the pdf editor thing, Foxit is a pretty unobtrusive pdf editor with a free trial, just highlight your name on the card and change the font (as you'll only have access to the letters used on the card in that font, so unless you have exactly the same letters in your alias it'll look all screwy) and you can add your alias on the end. Or, y'know, you could just write it on like a normal person, I possibly put too much effort into these things :).
Really looking forward to meeting you all!

I'm pretty sure that internet is wired ethernet, so bring a cable with you. I've heard you can hire one from accommodation reception, but you probably have to pay a bit. I'm not sure if it's as simple as just plugging in or whether you need to register your computer at reception. I didn't bring a laptop last year - though I'll be finding out this year. and, Dragnmoon, unless I'm misreading/misinterpreting the consupport status page, we appear to be in the same corridor/flat/whatever so if I find out what's going on before you do I'll track you down and let you know!
