I would like to set an After Hours Get Together (Party!!) for us Paizo fans for GenCon UK!!!!

We could get to know all the forum members that are going!

We could either go out... or just hang and game *I am more for the going out ;-)*

If you guys want to go out I can drive, bringing my Suv *Well can at least fit 5 of us*.. though fair warning.. First time driving in the UK so I may have to be reminded I am driving on the wrong side of the road a few times ;-)

A few Paizo employees might be interested in such an event.

Don't worry, drivers in the UK are very helpful -- if you accidently drive on the wrong side of the road then other drivers will point this out to you with appropriate words and gestures ;)

Central Reading's got a bit of a one-way system, so it's worth having a satnav.

Damn, I was only thinking of going on one day (the Thursday). If this is added to Thursday night then I'd consider adding staying a bit longer.

Thursday may not be the best night to organize this... Especially if anyone from the states wants to join in... they may still have some jet lag :-)

Thursday'll be by far the quietest day -- relatively few people around last year there were less than 1000 people there on the Thursday. It's also the quiz that night which is usually v popular & fun (so long as you know your 80s cartoons and german board games).

This is a Serious Suggestion I would like to get this going.

I have 2 ideas for this.

An Actual "Party" hanging out at a Bar or restuarant, It pains me but I am willing to be a DD ;-)

Or a Late night gaming Session..

Or even both, one on Friday the other on Saturday...

What ya all think?

The Exchange 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Mediterranean

Great idea. I'd be interested.

Saturday night is when they have the charity auction which is generally quite well attended and can run quite late. Maybe Friday would be the best night?

DOH!...

See like I said... Never been there... thanks for the Adivce... good to know these things..

They really need to release a Pdf for the set schedules..

Liberty's Edge

I will be there for Friday and Saturday. Got a 2pm PS game on Friday, but I am definitely up for some drinking that evening!!!! Or even more gaming if that's the plan! Which ever i'm down with the plan!!!

May want to get this topic moved up a few levels out of PFS specific into a more Paizo general section -- may get more traffic, get a feel for how many people may be around

Fri eve sounds like the best bet.

If you want an off-site venue (mainly social) I suggest Zero Degrees -- microbrewery & restaurant

On-site (mainly gaming) I'd suggest annexing a chunk of the SCR early evening/late afternoon

There are loads of places to eat and drink in Reading - the Oracle shopping centre has (I think) about 25 bars and restaurants.

Friday night, though, hosts the UK launch night for Living Forgotten Realms, so some people might end up having to make a painful choice. For others, of course, the choice might not be so painful...

Hmm, and I'm actually supposed to be GMing some Living FR on the Friday night slot too.

People up for a very late drink/game session...?

Sovereign Court

I'm more then happy to get some gaming/drinking in after hours. I'll be there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

We could get some Boardgames out, or run through a short Level 1 module for Pathfinder Beta. Or just get drunk. All work.

Or do all three???

I'd be happy to hang out with Paizo-fans any time at the con.

I am currently free on Friday evening, apart from the 'launch party' for LFR. Also free Saturday evening, though I'm GMing on Sunday morning, so won't want a late night!

Zero Degrees sounds like a great place, from its website!

At once, perhaps? Some strange Boardgame/PFRPG/Drinking Game mashup?

It's so mad it might just work!

Hmmm. Well as far as Paizo associated games go, there is Falling: The Goblin Edition I believe.... :D

From their web Page it looks like Zero degrees closes at 12...

From my time in London.. I remember depending on what kind of License a place has, they have to stop serving drinks at a certain time, correct?

Boy was I upset going into a pub at 11 and finding out I just missed last call!!... at 11!!!! what the!!!

They changed the licensing laws a couple of years ago so no longer an official 11 pm closing time but still most places in England don't serve drinks after midnight.

All places in England which sell alcohol need a licence from the local council which will specify the hours when they can serve alcohol.

While councils now can give 24-hour licences, very very few places applied for such. Most pubs/bars/restaurants will stop serving at 11 or 12, with night-clubs taking over after that point, and although there's significant variation, this is probably the norm.

Finding a place to buy and drink alcohol in after midnight in Reading without going to a nightclub (cover charge, bad beer, very noisy, rubbish music ;) ) is probably not going to be easy -- though I imagine others on these boards may have a suggestion or two. One advantage now, though: all pubs etc are now non-smoking inside :D

I'll talk to some of my mates who hang out in Reading often and get some pub suggestions if that helps. There's loads of pubs in the town centre but it might make sense to choose somewhere closer to the campus.

It undoubtedly is! I don't want to have to bring four pairs of trousers to GenCon - which is what I'd have to do if pubs were still smoking as I cannot stand the smell of stale smoke on my clothes!

Besides, for those who smoke almost everywhere has out-door areas with some level of protection against the unpredictable English summer weather, and often things like patio heaters etc, so everyone's catered for. Win-win.

Ok this is my Suggestion

Go to Restaurant/Pub at 2100 ummmmm 9PM on Friday

Once closes go in a drunken stupor *except for DDs* to common area in accommodations for after hour gaming

More drinking

Wake up next morning *If slept* with nasty hang over to game some more!

Sounds feasible, though unfortunately I am definitely running a living Forgotten Realms game from 8pm on the Friday (and GMing Pathfinder on the Saturday morning). I don't think we should try and firm things up any more than that until it is closer to GenCon.

Sat 9am wouldn't be Silent Tide by any chance?

I'm planning on doing all four games, and possibly the Star Wars Saga game on Friday 2pm.

Perhaps it'd be a good idea to do the drinking thing on Sunday?

Maybe, that way we could trade war stories about the pathfinder games without spoiling anything for people. But lots of people head home early Sunday evening.

Who will be around on Sunday evening?

Let's try for the Friday night, see what happens and if any of us want to meet up again we can plan that.

So are any of the Paizo guys interested in a Late Friday Night Meet?

I got Frozen Fingers on Fri at 1400 and Silent Tide on Sat at 0900! You DMing or playing that one??

I'm all about the pub outting on Friday night, i'll be getting to reading late thursday night then enjoying the con Fri and sat...leaving back up to Ely on Saturday evening.

Side question...my wife is a young (I mean new gamer) and doesn't feel confident enough to play in the society games but would like to watch...is that doable? Only asking cause this is my first Con. Thanks.

I'm DMing Silent Tide on Saturday at 9. (Doing a Forgotten Realms game Friday at 2).

I'm sure a society game would be quite a good one for a beginner (and as everybody will be just starting it should be particularly good for new gamers). But generally people are fine about people hanging around to watch a game. Best thing for her to do is play though. And if a society or living game doesn't appeal then there are plenty of other games. I find Gencon is pretty friendly towards new players.

No, it means a chain who keep their prices low. This place does real ales as well as other beverages.

Wetherspoons has an extremely high turnover of beer. It is a huge national chain, and often buys large batches of beer nearing the end of its shelf-life knowing that it'll be able to sell it all before it goes off. That's how it can offer John Smith's at £1.20 a pint or whatever it is now. This works well, and the beer is perfectly good to drink while they're selling it. Of course it does often lead to many city/town centre Weatherspoons pubs being absolutely jam packed at the weekends, in a 'standing-room only', pre-club kind of fashion.

However alongside the almost-loss-leader beer, most Weatherspoons usually have a good selection of four or five different real ales/real ciders - and those are at good prices too. So you're sorted whether you want mass produced lager, or nice, tasty ale :)

Of course, the suggestion of a microbrewery/restaurant is also a good one, and the prices listed on their website weren't bad!

Agreed, if you drink John Smiths though you get what you deserve! :P

Last time I was in this place it they had Mutiny on, from the Marlow Brewery, one of the best pints you can get!

Oh and the reason i thought this one could be good was that it's not right in the centre of town so is less crowded (usually).

Anyway, I don't mind. Just a suggestion.

I'll be there (as will my other half) all four days so am very interested in late-night schenanigans Friday and Saturday (and Thursday too if anyone else is interested, though agreed that Sunday would be bad, I'll probably be heading home early Sunday since I have to get up at 6 Monday for my lovely commute to work). I have no real suggestions but yeah, Wetherspoons is always reliable and tend to always have a couple of local beers on tap which is good by me!
