  • I picked up a copy of Beyond Mountains of Madness a little while back. Has anyone around here run this adventure, and if so can you give me an idea of how long it took to finish?

Hey PH. I plan on starting Beyond the Mountains of Madness next summer. It is the first time I am actually running Cthulhu on a more than one on one setting. I get the sense it will take a LOOONG time to finish. Unfortunately I had to buy PDF version as the hard copy is hard to find.

They had a bunch on sale on the chaosium website back in May or so. I don't know if they have any available anymore. It's a very nice book, and I'm not sure if I could handle trying to go through that monster in pdf form.

Yeah I just missed the hard copy but I printed it out and put it in a binder. I am running it from June through August once a week during a weeknight. I take a break from my D&D game in the summers because we play friday nights so I am looking at Cthulhu as a nice filler for the summer gaming fix :-)

I own this and have had it for a couple of years. The adventure took well over a year of real time to complete but it is fantastic. Good luck with it.

Dr Dark what was your frequency and length of play?

Approx once or twice a week. Each session lasting about 4 hours from what I remember. I think I once worked it out that it took us nearly 400 hours to play it. But my players do have a habit of going off at a tangent and getting into things a bit off track sometimes.

    Hiya.

Coincicdentally enough, I just bought the PDF of Beyond the Mountatins of Madness yesterday (and the 6th ed version so I can have the rules in PDF for reading at work...like right now... :) ).

I'm going to start a CoC campaign either today/tomorrow, or within the next week. I've always LOVED CoC. My longest lived character is still alive n' kicking (well, mostly alive...he was infected with vampireism that was still 'taking' last time I played him). He's a german archeologist named "Dr. Fondlerip". Ahhh....good times....

Anyway, I'm planning on starting the campaign with a 'simple investigation' that will lead into the BtMoM adventure. So, to those who have played it, any "gotchas" I should try and avoid for my pre-campaign game?

    ^_^

Miskatonic River Press has been kicking out some great Cthulhu products. Rone and I asked publisher Tom Lynch to speak with us about his latest release, Our Ladies of Sorrow, for the last episode of Atomic Array. Unlike most Cthulhu investigations, Our Ladies is more of a modern ghost story. It's a great four-part arc. I'd check it out if you're thinking about some CoC action.

I had a friend in a CoC game and he succeeded in closing the gate with an elder sign...he ended the game insane and he killed off the rest of the party. This was considered a good run in the game.

In a game I was in, the city were in was destroyed and the only reasons we survived was that we ran.

I love the game, but don't expect your character to survive or remain sane.
