Issue 10 Bestiary Entry: "Red Reaver"

I've been perusing my PDF and noticed that the entry for the "Red Reaver" on page 88 refers to this creature as both a "red reaver" and a "red render." Since the article compares the creature to the grey render I think the latter is the correct name. Does anyone know the official name for this creature?

I know this is nit-picking, but I love Paizo's products enough to notice silly details like this. ;-)

It's official name is the red reaver.

The original name WAS red render, though, but we changed it (except for the one we missed, alas) because we wanted it to sound more like it's own monster and not a colorful variant of the gray render. Although it IS a variant gray render... by naming this one the red reaver we give it a little bit more of its own existence.

That said... either name works fine. Just as in the real world you can call a mountain lion a mountain lion or a catamount or a cougar or a panther, there's no reason monsters like the red reaver can't have multiple names.

That makes sense. Actually, considering the relationship between the two monsters, I'm glad for the mistake...I might have missed the connection otherwise.

The multiple naming convention works well for me, too. I've always liked that idea of calling monsters by different names...especially when they're encountered in different regions.

Not to sound too much like a fanboy, but I'm consistently impressed by the fact that the Paizo staff spends so much time and energy interacting with customers. Not only is it really nice to be able to interact with such fun, creative people, but I honestly can't figure out how you guys have time to think about anything except RPGs.

Thanks very much, James!
