I'll be out of touch for the weekend. Please NPC Dyrnwyna as needed. Her main strategy is to use thunderwave when it's possible to hit two opponents with it, or to hit one and push them into the pit. If neither of those is possible she'll use magic missile. I think she still has her staff of defense power too, which she'll use if she gets hit for more than a handful of damage.

You may notice me on other threads putting games on hiatus. I don't think I'll have to do that with this one -- the adventure is straightforward enough to not be as big a time-sink. So it may slow down a little (relative to last month, not this past week), but I hope to keep it fresh.

Hey JZ/Rhianis. I noticed you haven't cursed the ooze yet. If you're avoiding it for a RP purpose or something then ignore this, but if you're just forgetting about then you may want to correct that with your next post. That extra d6 damage can be a lifesaver sometimes!

1 ochre jelly (level 3 elite brute) @ 300 = 300
1 blue slime (level 3 solo brute) @ 750 = 750
Posting award (1500-1200=300) @ 5 = 1500
Total: 2750
Each: 2750/5 = 550
Cumulative total = 2647+550 = 3197xp / 3750 needed
I'm giving credit for two encounters for that knock-down, drag-out, so one milestone and halfway to another.

Eh, I had it in my head that the water was shallow, like waist deep or something. Not sure where I got that idea. If it had been only difficult terrain, instead of requiring athletics checks, The Plan would have made more sense. Dyrnwyna is pretty tough, and with her defensive tricks she can put up respectable defenses for a few rounds. We needed the flanking, and nobody else was moving in that direction, so... It was a gamble, and it didn't work, but it's the sort of mistake Dyrnwyna would make in character, too, so no worries.
In retrospect, what we should have done is to move south into the room to lure the jelly south, then have someone, probably Gran, leap onto the island to flank.

Next time y'all level, there can be some rebuilding.
Actually, this looks like a good time to rebuild; sorry I didn't think of it a couple days ago. I believe both Arcane and Divine Power, and I think PHB2, have come out since the last rebuild opportunity, and the whole point of KotS was to test out game elements. Please keep your race, class, and approximately same equipment, but feel free to make other changes, preferably within the next 48 hours. If you use the DDI Character Builder, a .dnd4e file mailed to this username at Yahoo would be wonderful, too. Please alert me to significant changes.

Re Tower Shields, it wouldn't surprise me if they're in AV2, due out in a week and a half. I usually get an early look at the books (heh), so will probably be able to check around next Wed if my favorite bookstore chain keeps up its habits.

Speaking of shopping, have we gotten any significant loot? I admit I've not been keeping track of the gold very well.
Not much. KotS is notorious for being treasure-poor.
Here's what it looks like to me:
Kobold Brigands: 34sp
Kobold Ambush: 5gp, 23sp, obsidian dragon necklace (could fetch 80gp)
Goblin Guardroom: 43gp, 51sp
Torture Chamber: 55gp 50sp
Excavation Site: 22gp, +1 Symbol of Battle
Goblin Big Fight: 2 keys on Balgron the Fat, and the hide armor you left behind
Skeletal Legion: 5 small silver and platinum dragon statues (could fetch 60gp each)
Sir Keegan's Tomb: Aecris (unique +1 longsword)
Water Cave: Potion of Healing, Shield of Protection
I think that's it.

I'm also not too up-to-date on the loot situation. Since we're only operating with 2 of the original members a lot of gold has probably been lost in the shuffle.
As for the rebuild, I'm not sure where to go with Quinn. I've learned a lot more about 4E character building since last year and what works best. I may have to turn Quinn into more of a ranged cleric and lower his strength to boost other secondary attributes. I liked the idea of him as a melee cleric but it's stifling his potential. I think this will make him a better asset going into the second part of the dungeon. Any problems with this Pat?
I must say, of all the 4E races, dwarves seem the most off considering they were always portrayed as melee characters in earlier editions. Without that bonus to strength, though, they always come out a little behind now in that regard. There's only one melee class that uses wisdom as an attack score and only one class in the entire game that uses constitution as a primary attack attribute. I mostly complain because I love dwarves (still do) and I wish they were just a little bit better in melee. :)
As for the tower shields, I was thinking something that gives a +4 or +5 to AC with an equal penalty to skill checks. It would also reduce speed to 2 or something so you couldn't just wing it around the battlefield. It would only be good for one solid stand. Quinn just wants something to help ensure that he gets back into the dungeon. It doesn't need to be like this. ;)

I'm pretty sure that's a comprehensive treasure list.
The rebuild ideas are fine for Quinn.
I agree that it's a pity dwarves don't make better fighters, though that extra healing surge (and the power) from the +2 CON are a great help in a tight spot. +2 STR and CON would actually be a handicap, in a way, as then you only get the bonus to one defense score (and I think that's what minotaurs get).
I'd rather not make up a tower shield; let's see what happens with AV2.

41gp and 31sp per party member with 3sp left over.
Wow....we really need more magic items. :)
Also, Quinn is updated. I took him a very different direction from before. He'll be doing almost no damage now but he has some at-will healing and debuffing now. My sacred flame also provides decent temporary hp now.
